The angle from the sideline is the best angle to show I think. Not sure why that's not shown?

dive for me. lookman should have also scored ~5 mins ago. aimed at the 5% of goal that resulted in a save

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,277 ✭✭✭TheRona

As if that has ever been the case for a penalty? You can literally be fouled as you're playing away from the goal or as you kick it out, and it's still a penalty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,167 ✭✭✭Damien360

I reckon the PL gives that. It encourages diving although I don't think Eze dived. It was not a contact worth a fall and the ball was on its way out from his touch.

He didn't did he? I thought he tipped his shin?

Looked like a delayed reaction by Eze. Correct decision.

Dear God. TNT are talking some amount of bollocks. Back to RTE..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 440 ✭✭Bocadilloo

Not a pen for me. Eze looked a bit sheepish too, he knew it was a dive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,167 ✭✭✭Damien360

You are hoping for common sense from Ray Houghton ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,372 ✭✭✭ConcertKing

Blatant dive!Eze should of been booked!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭Rugbyf565

he only touches the very tip of eze’s boot, eze dived blatantly

I think Ray is good and knows his stuff. The only advantage to watching it on TNT, is they are actually at the match, and can see more. But Fletcher is head wrecking and McCoist is too performative.

If there was any contact, it was extremely minimal. Glad it was overturned.
In the PL that decision to award the pen probably stands….but there’s a lot about the officiating in that league that doesn’t make much sense.

Theatrical fall from Eze too of course….but they’re all doing it nowadays

So you're in agreement that there was contact.

    Got it

Shocking ball by Saka from a great position and he beat the man with lovely footwork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,167 ✭✭✭Damien360

You are missing the point. Contact yes but not enough to warrant a fall. It's theatrics.

I think they’ve made a balls of what is or isn’t a penalty but if a peno given isn’t clear and obvious a peno on multiple tv angles I don’t think the decision should be upheld because it more like means there wasn’t a foul then rather then just trusting the refs initial reaction to something tv footage can’t confirm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭Rugbyf565

Crappy game, two grubby teams tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 30,771 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Have you ever seen a ref overturn a penalty decision when there is contact?

Do you think it was a "clear and obvious" mistake by the ref

for me clear and obvious needs to be done away with. was it a clear and obvious error? i think so cos a dive IMO so correct outcome in the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,589 ✭✭✭Dogsdodogsstuff

I think if you can’t absolutely see the ref decision was correct, using multiple tv angles and being able to slow a game down and replay it in a way the ref can’t, then the refs decision should not stand. Doesn’t make sense to presume he saw something that actual footage that can be analysed can’t prove.

I mean “enough contact to make the ref make a decision” does not mean it’s a foul. It’s just the way the game has evolved to accept players jumping around the box. They literally said the athletic player should of jumped to the ground a few mins before. I’d rather the bar for a penalty is higher , not Lower

1-1 FT. think atleti edged it and will be disappointed with the draw

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,167 ✭✭✭Damien360

Probably the right result. I think Arsenal tried better in the second half. Not a fan of Athleti at all. Arsenal will likely get this in the next leg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,821 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Mac Allister had one overturned against PSG. Defender kicked the back of his heel wasn't it and VAR sent him to the screen and it was over turned.

Pretty sure clear and obvious is a thing in the PL?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,277 ✭✭✭TheRona

Dive and a yellow card for Eze, no doubt.

Either way, Arsenal had the raw end of two penalty decisions which could have gone either way tonight, but I think 1-1 was a fair result in the end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,090 ✭✭✭✭McDermotX

Can't listen to TNT here at all......absolutely insufferable. TV off.

Anyway, decent result for Arsenal tonight. We probably shouldnt be surprised setpiece incidents dominated things, but decent stuff for Arsenal to work with in the 2nd leg. Madrid may regret one or two of those chances in the 2nd half .

Every professional player on commentary all agree the VAR over turning was wrong. They all agree it’s a penalty

Yet all the ‘neutrals’ in here say it was a correct to over rule.

I can see an opinion in it being soft but to agree Var was right to overrule it is wrong based on the rules of the game, plain and simple

It's incredible there's any controversy over arsenal getting another peno. They can consider themselves fortunate with that 1 all.

Watching the games vs Bournemouth, City, Newcastle and tonight its hard to believe that arsenal recorded a Goal when not a single one from open play.

Madrid a very hard game away but have seen Madrid away this season, arsenal will be huge favorites from here
