One swallow doesn't make a summer.

We beat Wexford who themselves are in a bad place.

The same day on local radio it was said by a presenter that if they lost to Wexford they'd be viewed as the worst Kilkenny team in 50 years.

Focus on the next game and thats our All Ireland

A lot of good balanced comments being made here. It's as wide open as it has been in a long time lads, (even more than last year even!), and isn't it great!

Serious doubts over Limerick alright, and doubts over Cork now too, but if Gillane is back soon, with Lynch, who knows? Limerick would likely have beaten Cork at the weekend if Gillane had been playing. I think the biggest test for Limerick is their staying power throughout a gruelling championship

Offalyi in Tullamore this is not going to be easy and is a potential minefield, if we win it would be another huge boost and on the right road to a Leinster final appearance. If not we are have to use the remainder to blood more new talent.

Just a question on the minor referee on Saturday, down as a Dublin ref. I heard before he is a cop Wexford born. Can anyone confirm this ?

I haven't heard this Marooned but if we get another player sent off I'll go mad. Hoping for a win to set us up nicely. Joe Dowling is some bit of stuff and has all the skills. Ye're club must be proud of him.

I can't understand how Limerick are such a short price and also talked up so much. I believe they have won 3 of their last 10 championship games yet the way some people go on you'd expect prime Limerick 2022 to be still there. They're an ageing team and will likely produce diminishing returns the longer the championship goes on.

Ye Joe is a good bit of stuff alright. I thought they made a mistake the last day taking out Ruari Power from the forward line it reduced our threat completely Joe can’t do it all on his own and he will be targeted as we progress.

It was the same last year. I said to a Tipp publican at this time of year I didnt fancy Limerick after they had beaten Cork and he said no one will beat them. I think there key players have been on the road a long time now. I would think ther aim would now be to win there final 2 home games if they fail to beat Clare.

Looking at the rest of Munster Cork have not played well for a full 70 mins IMO and now have serious injuries. There are lots of questuon marks about them when the going gets tough especially after the collapse in the final last year. I wouldnt be backing them with your money let alone mine. When it goes well for them they look world beaters but if you get in their faces the pressure can get to them. They will probably make the next round.

Clare are the team probably coming in under the radar a little. Win this weekend and it will nearly guarantee them a place in the next round.

Limerick I feel are ageing but they have a bite and they can still tear any team apart on their day. Whether they can keep it for the whole championship is the question. IMO they need the shortedt route to the final. They will look to win their 2 home games which would see them through.

Tipp will now need to win their last 2 games. Lose in Limerick and they wont be going through. They got a massive rub of the green last year and a complete Cork collapse. Are they as good as people make out. They are young and have some lovely hurlers but maybe we wont see peak for another couple of years. This is probably why they are a bit up and down in games.

Waterford to me are the underdogs but you cant underestimate them. I dont see them winning in Limerick so will probably exit but with Bennett up front anything is possible. Man on Fire.

Galway are very young and a bit like Tipp from last year. I feel if they get a rub of the green they could go a long way if not all the way. Should get out of Leinster but I think the Dublin game and the Leinster Final will tell us a lot more.

Kilkenny have the players to hurt any team on their day. Their biggest problems lie in 3 and 6 and getting players back for more competition for places. They have gone out of games the last 2 years and their bench has not being strong. To have any chance of going to the final they need to hurl for 70 mins and have an imapctful bench.

Dublin a very hit and miss. To me they are a little like Waterford but getting out of Leinster is easier and you cant underestimate them as they like the underdog tag.

Wexford seem to be in a real transition and I was so dissappointed with them at the weeknd. I really thought they would put up a better show. They will probably not go through.

Offaly and Kildare i havnt seen so the relegation may be between them ATM but if Wexford dont beat Offaly it could be them down there.

My prediction so far is for Cork Clare and Limerick to qualify out of Munster and i wouldnt predict in what order.

Leinster I am going for Galway Kilkenny and Dublin. Galway will make the final and the other team will be the winner of Dublin and Kilkenny.

I wouldnt predict an out right winner now. I think as others have said to many questions and Munster has so many different outcomes.

Clare, fot me are a threat to anyone but must tighten up their defence.

I agree with you. If i was asked who i would pick now i would pick them. But the way Munster is that could change this weekend. If they cant beat a Limerick team without Lynch and Gillane they could struggle to get out as I think they need to travel to Cork and Tipp. Tipp need to win both games left and they will be targeting a home win to have any chance.

On statistics we are due an All Ireland. If we can win Leinster anything is possible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

Actually not winning Leinster mights suit us better as I feel we need game time for a lot of players that have been out and the younger players. But winning Leinster is always the best option.

It’s safe to say tipp won’t be doing back to back all Irelands they haven’t been impressive at all this year will struggle to get out of Munster I think

With cork and Limerick losing big players at the wrong time it has really opened Munster up Clare will get stronger and could sneak into an all Ireland semi very easily I wouldn’t fully rule Waterford out of sneaking into third in Munster either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 390 ✭✭KK36

Coming third would see us going to Cork, Limerick or Ennis for an away quarter final

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,131 ✭✭✭Village87

I would find it hard to see us beating 3 Munster teams to win an All Ireland if we don't win Leinster. Have we ever won an All Ireland without winning Leinster ?

Are both beaten provincial winners at home for quarter finals.would they not be neutral.

Ye won the All-Ireland in 2012. Galway won leinster that year, but Kilkenny returned the favour in the replayed final of that year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 342 ✭✭Firstsub

Kilkenny have played 8 games this year. Won 3 matches. Beat Offaly by 4 points, Waterford by 1 point and beat Wexford, all of these in Nowlan Park. Lost 4 matches getting trounced by Galway twice. Haven't won a game outside Nowlan Park. So far, this is not form that will take us far. No team will fear us. Hopeful of improvement though

I said it my mate after they won the AI last year. Ye might not get out of Munster next year. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭Nickindublin

I wouldnt take the league form too serious except for the scoring side of it. We got beat badly by Galway in the first round but even Joe Canning said on TV that KK had a good few goal chances and if they had taken them it could have been a different story. Wexford were awful TBH and we did what we could against the, Dublin will be a massive test in Parnell park. Where would i put us? Behind the Munster teams and Galway from what we have seen so far. But if we turn up and play 70 mins hurling we can beat any of those teams. The big question about this KK team is can we produce 70 mins against any of those teams and can we do it again and again. From what i have seen thats a NO.

So we wouldn't be better off not winning Leinster then ? Your logic is if we lost Leinster we would have more game time to experiment i.e an away quater final to losing Munster finalist. Strange.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭Takeyourpoints

I agree, doesn't make sense to me. If there's any slim chance of us doing anything this year, I would think it's by getting on a winning run of games straight through to a final. Another beating by Galway or a loss to Dublin would only dent the confidence. I can see the logic in getting lads more games but you can't beat the direct route. We'd only have to worry about raising our games for a semi final then (and a final if we somehow managed to win the semi).

I've read the post you're quoting twice now but he doesn't mention anything about winning or losing Leinster or the benefits if experimenting in quarter finals away against munster teams or anything like that. Am I missing something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 180 ✭✭The_Tank

Cork have deficiencies in defence but have the best looking panel still and maybe enough firepower and 'want' in them to get over the line. Kilkenny have blown two semi finals after pedestrian Leinster's so if they claim this Leinster they will be right be in the hunt. If Galway could shake that Westerners underachieving mindset they could be the dark horse. If we had the calibre of young player they had coming in, and still a few war-horses from a previous all Ireland team we'd be fancying our chances. But the problem is they always choke against Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 490 ✭✭donnem33

Galway only choke against Cork in an All Ireland final. Last time Cork beat Galway waa 2008 with Galway winning in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2022. Also beat Cork in a league final in 2010

The poster did say in an earlier post that not winning Leinster might suit us better. I get the point he’s making but you’d always want to win Leinster and you can’t beat the confidence a winning habit instils.

Ok but in that post he says winning Leinster would be the best option?

But I do agree with neverbet that, obviously, any hope we have of winning the all Ireland is increased by having fewer hurdles to jump; losing Leinster probably doesn't give us more matches anyway!

From a very, very selfish point of view, it would suit me personally if moment don't go straight to a semi final because then I'll be in Ireland when we are playing in a quarter. Haven't been to a kilkenny match since the 22 final.

But I would still rather us get revenge on Galway in croke Park, that's a monkey on our back right now.
