God I really haven't missed all the PSR, amortisation talk from last year 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,837 ✭✭✭scottser

I think the talk of a player's value in these circumstances is nominal and speculative. It's not in any way indicative of a bottom line for the club but if we got even half of that and his wages off the books, that's a win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,788 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Isn't it changing to a % - overall squad cost compared to turnover.

So surely Onana off the books under that model is better no matter if it is a "hit" or not

And we probably would have sold him in January if we had kept Amorim

If I ever see Onana (or Garnacho for that matter) in a Utd jersey ever again, I'm giving up.

Breaking even doesn't even come into it. I'd hand over the Rashford money to ensure he doesn't darken our doorstep ever again.

I'm a bit old school on deals where you are cutting your losses.

You get as much as you can for the player and move on, and whatever effect that has on PSR or the balance sheet is what it is.

True but only for amorim Bruno would of been gone last summer and many fans would of been happy. Some people see players differently and than other. Thankfully he is still here and doing well at this point in time.

I remember people laughing one time after Jose left cause Jose wanted martial sold. He claimed he was inconsistent, mentally weak.... Martial was going through a short resurgence with ole... Looking back now was Jose wrong??

Let's see how kobbie does now that he is on big money and performances are demanded every week. Let's hope we are looking back in five years time and we are saying... Amorim wanted him sold he was so wrong.

    Garnacho was sold.

Hojland, Sancho, Rashford and Onana all on loan.

Sancho could squeeze in a June game before his contract is up, will probably demand a testimonial.

Mainoo is only 21, I don't think we should be demanding big performances every week. He is clearly a huge talent, but we should still be developing him and protecting him to an extent.

If we had to buy him today it would be for a huge fee and then we would still expect him to take time to fully settle into the side.

A new contract won't make him any older. He should be a mainstay of the team, he should contribute, but for now all we should expect is that he do what he has been doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,218 ✭✭✭jayo44

We don't have to demand anything the fact is he is under more pressure to perform now he is on a big contract. I'd argue match going United fans will be more forgiven of him than the media will be. Whether "we" demand it or not he will be under more pressure it's a fact.

Dont know if it was said already but Lammens had a fantastic game the other night. Been a brilliant signing so far that was originally supposed to come in as a no.2 first and work his way up.

    Thats proper scouting right there

Mount gets zero sh*t from "the media" about his performance or lack of it, and he's earning the guts of .5m a month more than Mainoo. If anything, Mainoo should be under less pressure now that his future / contract is sorted.

Premier league signing of last summer in my opinion. Think I seen yesterday he hasn't had one mistake leading to a goal.

Mount has been a disastrous signing because of his injuries, but it's a little unfair to criticise his performance when he's barely been playing.

Would definitely say Lammens is the signing with the biggest impact for us this season

Seems a sound level headed guy too - unusual for a keeper :D

They've both been involved in at least 20 league games this season. The general point stands, I think. Anyway, the Arsenal game beckons!

Mount signing will hopefully be the last of its kind for the money and wages involved.

Delighted Mainoo signed. Last 2 games he's showing how good he can be. Especially defensively. Breakdowns and turnovers he's excelled at. Bossing it. He could be some player.

Seems like a no nonsense guy alright. Very calm way of playing which is just what we needed. One thing I would like to see him work on is releasing the ball earlier at times. It might be under instruction but it seems like he holds onto the ball for an age every single time.

    I think that’s a bit of a stretch tbh.

Bruno himself said he could have left in the summer but didn’t because he wanted to stay. That’s the main reason. The club didn’t push him out either - it was more “if you want to go, we won’t stop you” rather than forcing anything. Bruno felt hurt and undervalued by that (which is absolutely fair), but not enough to actually leave. Thankfully!

Amorim saying he was part of his plans helps the situation, but that’s just normal. Any manager is keeping their captain and best player, so saying Bruno stayed “only for Amorim” doesn’t really add up at all.

We don’t need to wait 5 years to see that Amorim was wrong to limit Mainoo’s game time so much, in my opinion. Amorim laughed at the idea of Mainoo being an offensive option from the bench after a game when he was an unused sub. We saw on Monday night what he can do offensively with that movement and footwork to set Amad up with a great chance. That is just one example, but for me it’s not a question at all of whether Amorim was right or wrong.

With so much talk of potentially 3 midfielders needed would Goretzka be an option on a free as rotation, especially in CL next year. If we were to sell Ugarte and sign 2 other midfielders we still need some experience and physicality in the team left by Case, if you can get him without exortionate wages and 2 or 3 year contract. Obviously he may want his last big pay day and if so we should avoid.

Anyone watch Bayern and have any opinion on him? Has 28 appearances this year so still playing quite a bit for a very good side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,788 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Getting him in to be the 3rd/4th man in midfield on wages that aren't crazy would be good business.

Would he go for that move though? Or would he rather move somewhere he'll be first choice or somewhere he'll get a nice pay package? That's the real question.

But yes, I do agree with replacing Casemiro's experience in the team. And with CL football, league and cups there are plenty of games to go around.

His injury record is fairly good from what I have seen

Hectic few days since going to the game. Really enjoyed it, the young lad was delighted.

Some of my main observations from the game.

I hope Amad was injured because he looked completely off it and disinterested. He didn't look like he even wanted to get on the ball. His miss in the first half was shocking, no conviction in his strike.

The Casemiro love was unreal, he will be missed. As much as I think we need to keep him (even for CL matches alone), there's a part of me saying why not go out on a high. It wasn't so long ago that a significant percentage of fans had him consigned to the glue factory.

Mainoo is unreal. Unreal for a lad who has just turned 21*. He stands out head and shoulders above most other players. Elite players always seem to have that extra second on the ball. I've always been a big fan, how Amorim left him out of the team is still impossible to comprehend, I'm delighted it didn't force him to leave the club.

*He still has a bit to do in terms of being the highest level, one or two passes were a bit too relaxed and in a dangerous areas. That decision making should easily come with more experience.

Maguire impressed me, I've never been his biggest fan and I think his lack of mobility is always a worry, but his medium-long range passing is impressive and he stood out as a leader in the sense that he was taking responsibility and trying to make things happen.

Heaven and Yoro are serious athletes for young lads, there's an unbelievable CB pairing there for the future.

Shaw has frustrated me for a long time now and while he had a good game, you get the impression there's more there to give but that he's minding himself.

I won't say anything about Dalot.

Mbuemo was exciting but not great at the same time. We need extra fire power and some proper competition in attack for next season.

Bruno is class, and frustrating in equal measures for me. Great to see him up close.

Was very disappointed in the way Carrick set up the team in the second half. Very conservative. But he's getting results and that's the main requirement in the short term. I think there's better managers out there but he has done enough to get another year, I hope the powers that be don't see it as an opportunity to spend less this summer.

I would assume they would ask for close to £50 million for him now that he's an England International and signed a new contract up to 2030. Much different outlay and type of transfer than the Goretzka one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Would love to keep Casemiro around for that role but I assume he sees himself as a starter. Maybe move back home or to Miami. He's often been pictured in Miami during his time here so probably sees it as a nice place to settle down for a bit.

He's getting dragged by fans for his lack of effort last night when he came on. Didn't watch the end of the match so didn't see when he came on. But I think they'll need to be smart and go for a free or loan for a 3rd CM. Especially if you're wanting him to be 4th choice.

Mathias Jensen who scored against us on Monday is out of contract in the summer. Could he be a smart pick up if you're looking for someone to replace Ugarte as 4th choice.

I've thought Angelo Stiller would be a great pick up given his release clause is only €40M or even a bit less but it seems there's a ridiculous clause in his contract that allows Stuttgart to remove his release clause if they pay him €2M.

I think Shaw has just hit his limitations physically. I'm actually shocked at how much football he's played this season. Has started all 34 league games and played 94% of the available minutes in those games. Whoever United sent him to in Qatar they need to send Licha and Mount to see them.

If he can continue this good form of availability for next season I think it could be worth offering him a one year deal to remain as a squad player if he's willing to take a decent pay cut. Though could see him in the MLS.

Next season though we need to improve at LB. Shaw can't be our first choice LB when we'll be playing CL and PL.

The only thing I would say about Casemiro is maybe we are best off calling it here on a high. He'll be 35 next season and at this level / that age, 6 months can see a major drop off in a player. You can go from world beater to miles off it very quickly.

He's also on 350k a week and maybe he doesn't want to reduce that so is happy to head off to the MLS for a nice life with his family. I wish him all the best.

Whoever comes in won't be on 350k and definitely not as a backup player. I'd imagine that is the major stumbling block. I would say the club might have done a deal closer to 100/150k range.
