No surprise. I know of another boxer trying to start a fight at a St Patrick's Day parade couple of years ago. Thug. Club takes untrained thugs and make them trained thugs.

No surprise to see Mattie and the Murphy clown with her. They'd sell themselves anywhere for a photo opportunity

Anyone know why the travellers have been allowed take up residence in the sports hub?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,057 ✭✭✭Recliner

Don't think they would have asked permission TBF.

I heard they were in town for a funeral and were then going - are they still there?

Haven't been down there but what's happening?

The powers that be are too sh#t scared to say a thing, while we all have to live with the consequences. There is a survey out by Tipp COCO about how safe your area is, I recommend everyone fill in their thoughts about the safety levels in town and why.

Would you be able to share the link to the survey?

This is the family(families) who were camped on the roadside on the back road to Fethard at Grove about 5 years ago, they were moved on by the Council and they moved into the car park near the Cahir road roundabout, were eventually moved from there. They were eventually housed just off the Fethard Road, but moved out. They then moved to the road down to Sanybanks, then to the road at the roundabout just beyond Marlfield village( near Marlfield GAA pitch) then out to Knocklofty House, then back to the car park at Cahir road roundabout. They were forced out of there last week and have now moved into the Sportshub. Each move has to be done by serving notice on them and possibly court orders. They are notorious for it and simply move into the next open gate.

I hadn't heard about them at all! Is there no space in any of the sites for them or do they not want to be in a site?

Not sure how to make it clickable on mobile but:

They are related( but dont associate) with other families, so would not move on to a site.

Generally, they keep to themselves and are kid of "anonymous". But their most recent stay up near the Cahir road roundabout was fairly "full on". For instance, they broke through the big gates and then used a digger to break through the mound of clay( even though there are huge concrete "lego bricks" in it), so that they could park their caravans there and drive in and out at will.

I hear a rumour that once the lease expires on McDonald's premises in O'Connel St. they are out of there.Fed up with the anti social behaviour around the area.

They are looking to move out to the bypass, possibly near Supermacs. If they don't get that, they'll leave Clonmel altogether.

anybody else hear lifestyle in Clonmel could be in trouble?

Lifestyle are rumoured to be moving to the Showgrounds shopping centre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭Lightscribe

I also heard they're moving to the Showgrounds

There is a big new development proposed to go in around Jysk/Supermac's. A number of large retail units but no room for drive thru on the currently published plans which is what McDonalds are looking for. Part of the problem is the Mr Price building is staying which limits the ability of a drive tru to be seen and accessed from the road. They looked at a number of other locations around the bypass (e.g. where the motor stores and golf store is) but there isn't any place available that is suitable. I heard they were looking at options along the Waterford road but not sure they found anything. If they have decided to close the Gladstone street branch then they will likely leave the town.

On Lifestyle sports I heard they are looking to move because their current location is on the wrong end of O'Connell Street. But it isn't the showgrounds they are supposed to be looking at as all the units there are too small for their needs. It is the new proposed units near Tesco/Supermac's/Jysk. Apparently several tenants are already lined up for that if it gets permission and they are one.

Is the old argos unit not big enough? I have to say the showgrounds is buzzing since Shaws and Vesuvio went in, Lifestyle would be a great addition

Mr Price are looking at opening in the Ormonde Centre (old Tesco). I thought it was a second store but could they be moving. Not a popular move with staff if that's the case, for the same reason as McDonald's are leaving.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,862 ✭✭✭touts

Not to replace the size of store they already have. The Argos unit is quite small compared to the size of units that come available in the newer units where large stores are located around a carpark. That's what is going on near Jysk and that's what they are interested in.

Lifestyle on o connell st closed off upstairs recently and are only using the space downstairs and it still feels fairly spacious.

I don't know about the zoning/planning in where jysk is but in other towns clothing retailers weren't allowed in such out of town units. TK maxx in Waterford used to be in Butlerstown retail park and were made move elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 711 ✭✭✭Woodcutting

What's the difference between zoning for jysk and Showground?

,Why would anyone move into the town centre ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,334 ✭✭✭✭klose

Lifestyle I’d say will close in Ireland and go just online like river island I’d say, any one I’ve been too, like Clonmel, always has very little stock in the floors.

I see the old kambost restaurant down the quay is having work done to it, anybody any idea what’s going on or they just prepping it to sell/lease?

Beside the TUS college on the bypass between the Cashel and Fethard rondabouts.

The showgrounds was built as a shopping centre with a number of units inside and is reasonably close to the town centre compared to the poppyfields. Often out of town retail park units are limited to bulky goods like jysk, DID electric, EZ living furniture etc and it would be unusual to see a clothes shop there but different sites have different conditions when their planning is granted so who knows?

In Tipperary town there's Dunnes stores and a few shops, chemist etc but not too far away from there Mr Price was being told to move, I can't remember how that ended or if it's still ongoing.

Maybe lifestyle will go beside jysk, it will be very convenient if it does. It would also be handy if there was access to the train station from that side, both for pedestrians and for parking.

After the water being out for a number of days last weekend in Clonmel it now is out in Goatenbridge, Newcastle, Ballybacon, Grange, Ardfinnan, Marlfield, and Knocklofty.

We really are heading to having a third world water system in this country. I'd say there hasn't been a week in the 12 months where there hasn't been a boil water notice or complete outage somewhere in the wider Clonmel area. At what point does this become a big enough issue where the government and council have to step in and take control of the water supply from Uisce Eireann who are clearly too incompetent to manage it.
