They are returning for holidays, a quick google will show you the government had to release a notice saying they had to be back by 5th January to keep receiving their benefits.

    A death!

Before the war there was a lad from Clare on Liveline who was bringing Irish lads over to Kiev to get Ukrainian wives.

Sounds like Pat might have signed up

    So he married the carer.

Was his now dead wife a mail order bride?

She sounds like the usual flag waver, and can't string a coherent argument together, but, on this subject, I am with her.

Not all cases are the same but my own sister in law has a Ukranian staying with her. Healthy rental income fully funded by the government. The Ukraninan lady has been back home for extended periods since moving in. She's taking full advantage of our genorosity and I don't blame her but something needs to change.

OMG, she just called Kieran a biased journalist!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,951 ✭✭✭✭BPKS

Accused a journalist of bias and wait for them to attack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,859 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Ya, I can't believe Mary said that. Everyone knows Kieran isn't a journalist. Is he biased? 100%.

Kieran: "I'm not cutting across you Mary, but I'll get in real trouble if I don't take an ad break."

You'd get in even more trouble, if you don't walk the woke line.

But the Mother and Mother-in-law get the state pension. Could the husband also get the carer's allowance?

Staying here, with cheap rents, health benefits, english education etc. is much more valuable than returning to Ukraine to a 'safe' part. As more gets cut watch lots will return or go elsewhere. Just look at Denmark and how their refugee numbers have dropped as benefits did.

she's 100% right! Sick of this situation. Free medical card, no car tax, no insurance,no NCT, free University fees, yet able to earn money and live for free, if not heavily subsidised. This has created an unfair system, it has pitted people against Ukrainians, the supports in Ireland are larger and have gone on longer than any other country. Our families and our children do NOT get medical cards or ARP, they have to pay all expenses for their cars, they have to pay for their own vet for their animals.

Surely if EVERY single proposal the Govt make to reduce supports, or stop immigration is met with the court of Liveline then you'll always get the hard luck stories! Its a joke.

Love how everyone knows a Ukrainian who has a medical card and killed a dog.

Same old nonsense and entitlement from Irish mouth pieces.

Every day kids are dying from Russian drones being randomly dropped but Mary’s daughter doesn’t have a medical card so all Ukrainians need to go home.

    Cop on.

Our benefits were so high that Ukrainians who didn't even live in Ukraine at the time, moved here.

Once the benefits were reduced there was a dramatic drop in the number of Ukrainians arriving here.

Also all the holidays back home. Holidays back to the supposed warzone you have just left should mean an instant disqualification from the asylum process.

JJ have to hard disagree, I'm not a mouth piece, I don't like unfairness, if they are working they should pay and be means tested like everyone else. Yes there is a war, but that doesn't mean they get treated better than the rest of the country here. We cannot keep the world afloat, we cannot take in every Ukrainian, we are doing more than our fair share, its time the supports are fair too.

"Free medical card, no car tax, no insurance…."

Are you saying that Ukranians driving here don't need to have their cars insured? Who indemnifies them if they are involved in a collision or knock down a pedestrian?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,268 ✭✭✭Mervyn Skidmore

They do need insurance but don't let the truth get in the way of a good rant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Dublin Calling

Yes but needing insurance and having insurance are two different things.

Irish Times Mon Apr 20 2026 - 00:01•2 MIN READ

One in every 15 vehicles on Ireland’s roads is uninsured or unregistered, new data shows.

At the end of last year there were 211,371 uninsured or unregistered vehicles being used, about 6.5 per cent of the overall number on the roads.

This includes a rise to 105,429 uninsured private vehicles used on roads last year, compared with 101,881 in 2024. The additional 3,548 uninsured private vehicles represent a 3.5 per cent increase.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI), which published the data on Monday, has called for the introduction of continuous vehicle coverage (CVC) to help reduce the number of uninsured vehicles flouting the law. CVC is an enforcement system that moves the detection of uninsured vehicles from being Garda-led to being administrative.

The Ukranians certainly have a lot of cars.

thanks for that. I didn't realise it……….after my husband was hit by a Ukrainiian driver in a Ukrainian car. She had no tax or insurance. Guess there' always exceptions to the rules.

Remember the Ukrainian lad (of military age if I recall correctly) who moved here from America at the beginning to be safe from the Russian invasion of his country 🙄.

Listening back to yesterdays podcast. The lad on talking sense at 25 minutes is gold. With Kieran doing his woke best to argue against him.

Listening to yesterdays episode, I was missing Joe. You'd miss his non-woke style.

    New lad,

    • Fuel Support Scheme: Rules and how to apply. Means tested. Carers looking for extra dig out. Nurses not happy with millage rates. Are you in this category, call us.
    • Expressway: Cuts. Ann is not happy.
    • Joe Flashback: Wan bought a Burke with Love Letters inside it. On with Joe two years ago. Update.

I was hoping for more "Won't someone think of the Ukranians?".

Kieran's wokeness yesterday was at odds with official government policy. The team probably got a reminder from those above.
