    Hi folks,

It has now been over two months since MT has unfortunately left us. However, his legacy very much lives on and I feel I sort of have an obligation to keep it going as I was always the guy who would step in to help out when he would be occupied with other matters whenever I realistically could. Due to this I have decided to keep the forecasts going and will use this thread to post them starting off fresh rather than getting MT's thread reopened. It will not be possible for me to dedicate myself to doing these every day but will attempt to update when I can and hope you appreciate the efforts.

If you would like to give feedback, ideally can you give so via either PM, the spring discussion thread or even in the Irish Weather Online comments rather than posting here please. Thank you for your co-operation in advance. With all that said and done, here's the forecast.

Forecast for Ireland, 28th April 2026

The next two days will bring plenty of fine weather with good sunshine, especially tomorrow Wednesday but then there will be a marked change with more changeable conditions from Thursday onwards as the rain returns from the southwest. It will be cooler by the weekend as winds veer to the northwest.

TODAY TUESDAY ... Sunny spells with variable cloud cover across the nation. Temperatures getting up to the high teens (17-19C) out west sheltered from the easterly wind which will make it cooler on the east coast closer to 12-15C. The easterly may pick up to moderate levels so beware that there'll be a noticeable chill.

TONIGHT ... Mostly clear skies with a fairly cool night for some getting down to 2 or 3C, the coolest conditions will be inland to the north and south midlands. Milder closer to coasts up to 5-7C at lowest.

TOMORROW WEDNESDAY ... A very sunny day likely with prolonged spells of unbroken sunshine. However, the easterly wind will give a noticeable chill again and will be stronger than today. Turning cloudier towards the southwest and south later in the day into the night as rain nears. Afternoon temperatures getting up to the high teens again in the west whilst the east will be suppressed closer in the low teens and even lower on the immediate coast.

THURSDAY ... Showers or longer spells of rain to the south and southwest will attempt to head northeastward but may grind to a halt and fizzle out in a line from Donegal to Wicklow by the evening hours. Temperatures will be suppressed under the rain with 11-13C at best whilst further east and northeast may get to the mid to upper teens where it will hold dry for a while at least, perhaps all day with some sunny spells but overall a good bit of cloud expected. The easterly wind will begin to ease and veer more south overnight.

FRIDAY ... A classic case of sunshine and showers returns with temperatures ranging from 14-18C, warmest in the Meath/Dublin area and coolest on west and south coasts due to the southerly wind which will be relatively light to moderate in nature. Fog patches possible Friday night under light winds and clear spells.

SATURDAY ... Good bit of cloud and more prolonged showers likely with temperatures down on recent days getting up to 11-15C as the wind veers back to the northwest.

SUNDAY ... Another day of sunny spells and showers. More drier moments than Saturday but similar temperature values in the low teens.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY ... A range out of outcomes. Currently it's looking like an alright day with a build of pressure lessening the shower risk compared to the weekend but still a chance and not warm with afternoon highs fairly typical for early May in the 12-15C range.

Overall, early May is looking like typical Irish weather of rain or showers at times and some drier interludes with rather disappointing but average temperatures for the time of year. Try and enjoy the next two days best you can if you get the chance. Just remember that the easterly wind will make it feel chilly to those exposed so wear appropriate clothing!

Forecast for Ireland, 29th April 2026

No change from yesterday's post with a couple of showery days to start May and not much sign of warmth on the horizon, might even get cool early next week as the wind veers north. No washout either indicated though after a few wet periods.

TODAY WEDNESDAY ... Lots of sunshine nationwide today. Fair weather cumulus inland. However, the easterly wind will strengthen significantly so will make it feel cold in exposed areas of the east and south coasts or in the shade out of direct sun. Some cloud will start to arrive in the southwest later in the day into the night ahead of outbreaks of rain tomorrow. Warmest temperatures out west in the upper teens from 17-19C whereas the east coast will be more like 13-16C.

TONIGHT ... Outbreaks of rain will arrive in the south and west late tonight attempting to push northeastwards by dawn through Munster, south Connacht and west Leinster. It will be a mild night in terms of temperature for most away from the far north getting down to 7-9C for the majority and a little higher than this on the immediate coast. However it won't feel mild as the gusty easterly wind will continue to blow. Winds will be a little calmer in the far north where it could get down to as low as 3/4C inland.

TOMORROW THURSDAY ... High cloud ahead of the rain may provide a colourful sunrise for places northward of Clare to Waterford. Here it looks like too much cloud for sun's rays to scatter through to give colour. Some sunny spells to start, turning hazy for the north and east. Easterly winds continuing to blow, moderating as the day goes on. Rain will travel northeastward in a diagonal line stretching from the west coast down to the southeast, heavy at times at first before it's likely to lose oomph to the north and east where the northeast may hold dry all day long. Maximum temperatures up to high teens in the north and east under hazy sunshine whilst it will be significantly cooler in the south under cloud and rain with 10-14C at best. Thursday night will see some clear spells develop and possibly mist or fog patches as winds lighten.

FRIDAY ... A day of sunshine and showers turning heavy occasionally. Sporadic thunder may occur with afternoon highs up to 18/19C possibly in the east whilst more typical highs of 13-16C for many. Winds south to southwesterly in direction, light to moderate in nature. The full moon is Friday and conditions look unfortunately poor for its rise in the evening with a lot of cloud expected on the eastern horizon across the country.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND ... Turning cooler with a lot of cloud overall. Disappointing temperatures of generally around 12C. Showers at times, moreso on Saturday. There's possibility of an upper level feature in the Bay of Biscay giving more general rain from the south on Monday but it may miss Ireland altogether. A northerly flow is then likely to develop which will give rather cool conditions. Ridge of high pressure staying too far west to have much of an influence on Ireland.

Not a great forecast really once we see today out of the way. Hopefully things will start to pick up again in the not too distant future.

I've added interest around tomorrow's sunrise and the moon on Friday. Let me know if these are of any use to you and worth including via other threads or PM. Please avoid commenting to keep this thread chat free.

Forecast for Ireland, 30th April 2026

After a wet period early on, rainfall is likely to trend not too far from normal overall across Ireland during the week but a large amount of showers may give a very wet perception to the weather.

Temperatures around average, perhaps going below average by mid-week next week due to clear nights and a northerly flow.

A lot of cloud so sunshine will be below par for the time of year.

TODAY THURSDAY ... Any sunny spells early on in the north and east will turn hazy as high cloud approaches ahead of rain which is likely to hover over Munster, much of Connacht and south Leinster for a lot of the day gradually heading northeastward stretching from Mayo to Wexford. Some heavy bursts at times. The northeast may stay dry all day long. Temperatures under the rain around 12C at best whilst it will be mid to upper teens in any sunshine further north and east away from the immediate coast due to easterly winds continuing but these will ease as the day goes on.

TONIGHT ... Occasional clear spells as the rain clears to the northeast by sunrise with possible mist and fog patches as the easterly winds calm down. Mild night getting down to 8/9C at lowest.

TOMORROW FRIDAY ... Fair amounts of cloud with showers and sunny spells. Winds veering southerly bringing the warmest weather to the mid-east region up to 17-19C whilst more generally 14-17C. Conditions still look poor for the full moon rising in the evening for those interested.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND ... Rather cloudy with widespread showers across the country through Saturday and to some extent Sunday but less so than Saturday. Less showers around on Bank Holiday Monday but staying on the cloudy side. Cooler than of late for all with temperatures during the afternoons in the 11-15C range.

TUESDAY ... Cool to start. Another rather cloudy day with some light showers scattered about and afternoon highs again in the 10-14C range. Frost is possible under light winds and clear skies Tuesday night.. don't cast a clout 'til May is out.

Weather through early May continues to look mediocre with rather cool to average conditions due to northerly winds from ridging in the North Atlantic. No sign of warmth on the horizon nor an Atlantic washout.

Forecast for Ireland, 1st May 2026

Turning cooler this weekend into next week with some late season frost possible by mid-week then perhaps some promise on the horizon for pressure to build back for a time increasing the chance of settling down but more unsettled conditions is probable at this time due to the proximity of low pressure close by to Ireland. Showery days until then with good bit of cloud.

TODAY FRIDAY ... Cloud from the remains of yesterday's rain will attempt to clear the north and east with sunshine and showers developing behind. Still fair bits of cloud. Southerly winds bringing the warmest weather to the mid-east and north midlands region up to 17-19C whilst more generally 13-17C. The full moonrise is 21:19 in Dublin, 21:22 in Cork and 21:31 in Galway. Conditions for it look mostly poor but you might catch it in the odd clear spell, it's worth looking at real time satellite imagery.

TONIGHT ... Some isolated clear spells with mist and fog patches under light southerly winds. Rather mild with temperatures getting down to as low as 6-8C. Some showers here and there, heavy occasionally.

TOMORROW SATURDAY ... Lots of cloud with widespread heavy showers. Sporadic thunder might occur. Cooler than of late getting up to 12-14C. Might get a little higher if sunny spells develop.

SUNDAY ... Another day of showers with a lot of cloud though sunny spells are possible. There is the risk of more general showers or longer spells of rain get close to the east coast from the UK as winds veer northeast. Afternoon highs of 11-15C.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY ... Cloudy and mostly dry. Thickest of the cloud may produce the odd drizzle or shower. Afternoon highs of 12-14C, a little cooler on immediate coasts. Northerly winds light in nature.

TUESDAY ... Mostly cloudy, at least for a time with some showers spreading southward from the north. Clearer periods following on behind with further scattered showers in the north. Afternoon highs disappointing for early May around 12C at best. Clear spells Tuesday night may lead to late season frost.

WEDNESDAY ... Cool with further showers and variable cloud, 11-13C. More frost Wednesday night.

FURTHER AHEAD ... The latest models show pressure possibly rising a bit later next week with a weak ridge of higher pressure but with a cool airmass entrenched so it would remain cool with further frost chances. Low pressure looks quite close by to the west and southwest of Ireland which I would veer more towards the mixed outcome at this point in time rather than things settling down to be honest.

Forecast for Ireland, 2nd May 2026

Following a showery weekend, there will be a run of drier days from Bank Holiday Monday though not completely dry. Due to the amount of cloud, the odd shower or drizzle cannot be ruled out but on the whole it looks mainly dry despite the fact that it'll be rather cool by mid-week with late season frost possible under clear skies at night.

TODAY SATURDAY ... A nice start for some but showers will become more widespread through the day. Sporadic thunder is possible, mainly to the north and west as winds turn to the north later, starting off southerly. Temperatures around 12-15C generally. The southerly winds holding on for a time could result in slightly higher in any sunshine.

TONIGHT ... Showers easing with clear spells developing. Cloudier in the east with occasional drizzle. Mist and fog patches, mainly over the midlands down into Munster, as winds fall very light. Minimum temperatures 5-10C.

TOMORROW SUNDAY ... Good bit of cloud with occasional sunny spells and scattered showers. Northerly winds veering northeast which might make it misty over the east. Maximum temperatures ranging only 10-15C, mildest in the northwest more sheltered from the northeast flow.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY ... Mostly dry and cloudy with the odd drizzle. Coolest on northern coasts where it'll be 10-12C. Most will be in the 13-14C range.

TUESDAY ... Sunnier periods are likely to develop later following another mostly cloudy day of occasional drizzle and patchy rain. Cool with temperatures of only 9-11C in the north, 11-13C elsewhere as the northerly flow is maintained. Cold on Tuesday night with frost possible in the midlands.

WEDNESDAY ... Another day of limited sunny spells and good bit of cloud. Cool with afternoon highs of just 9-13C, mildest in the south. Further frost possible Wednesday night if skies clear.

FURTHER AHEAD ... Unsurprisingly, the weak ridge of high pressure signal yesterday has been evaporated with low pressure remaining in the mix. This means that later next week and next weekend is likely to feature a good bit of showers or longer spells of rain with temperatures remaining disappointingly suppressed for the time of year. There will be somewhat of a recovery from the cool weather of mid-week next with the frost risk easing.

Forecast for Ireland, 4th May 2026

A lot of dry weather expected for at least the next few days with any rainfall coming in the form of scattered showers or drizzle from thicker cloud, a bit more showery by the weekend. Temperatures will be below average for the time of year however, frost risk will be dependent on how clear skies become through mid-week. Tuesday night looks the highest chance of frost so gardeners and farmers beware.

TODAY BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY ... Mostly cloudy with some sunny spells in the far north and south this morning. More sunny spells are likely to occur later in the day with isolated showers, mainly in the south and northwest. Still a good bit of cloud about but light northerly winds so in any sunshine it won't feel bad despite the mediocre afternoon highs around 13 or 14C.

TONIGHT ... Variable cloud cover and clear spells. Some isolated showers in the northwest but nearly all dry. Cooler night with temperatures getting down to 2-4C, values slightly higher on west, northwest and northern coasts.

TOMORROW TUESDAY ... Some showers heading southward giving a mostly cloudy start to the day. Sunny spells ahead to the south and following behind from the north. Again the light nature of the northerly winds means it may not feel as cool as the temperature suggests once you get good sunshine. Afternoon values around 12-14C. Beware of the frost risk Tuesday night with -1C possible in clear spells in the midlands as there will be very little wind - this may lead to mist and fog as well. Most others will see temperatures a bit above freezing up to 4 or 5C on northern and southern coasts.

WEDNESDAY ... Mostly dry but fairly cloudy with variable sunny intervals. Some isolated showers occasionally. Winds will be very light and varying in direction. Afternoon highs 11-14C. The frost risk Wednesday night is indicated to be lower with a fair amount of cloud expected and winds freshen a little.

THURSDAY ... Starting off dry with variable cloud cover. Some light to moderate rain will spread from the west through the morning as westerly winds freshen. Showers following behind. Afternoon temperatures around only 11 or 12C.

FRIDAY ... Winds look to fall lighter but a showery day with lots of cloud. Temperatures continuing to be suppressed around only 10-12C.

FURTHER AHEAD ... It continues to look cool going into next weekend for May with frost risk arising again under lighter winds and any clearer nights. How unsettled it'll be is too uncertain to take seriously at this point in time whether it'll be the usual showers or longer spells of rain.

Enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday, it could be way worse weather wise.

Forecast for Ireland, 5th May 2026

Mostly dry at first, turning wetter later in the week into the weekend. Still an unknown just how wet it will be. Temperatures continuing to be disappointing for the foreseeable future with no warmth on the horizon, cold for next few nights.

TODAY TUESDAY ... Some sunny spells early on to the north and south of the country with mostly cloudy conditions through the central swathe of the country. Scattered to isolated showers moving southward with more sunny spells following behind from the north in light winds, northerly in direction. Up to 13-14C in sunshine away from northern coasts, 11-12C under cloud.

TONIGHT ... Some isolated showers but mostly clear and cold with a risk of frost as winds fall very light. Temperatures getting down to 0-3C generally, slightly higher in on south and northern coasts.

TOMORROW WEDNESDAY ... A very calm day with light variable winds. Lots of dry conditions with only isolated showers and sunny intervals here or there. The highest risk of showers will be in the north and east. Afternoon highs up to 13 or 14C. Another cold night on Wednesday night but less of a frost risk with values expected to drop to 2-4C generally.

THURSDAY ... Sunny spells early on Thursday with increasing cloud cover as patchy rain arrives in the west and freshening southwesterly winds though still light to moderate in nature. Similar temperatures again in the 12-15C range, slightly cooler if stuck under cloud and rain. Mildest in the east.

FRIDAY ... Fair amounts of cloud with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers developing. Winds will veer west to northwesterly as the day goes on. Afternoon values up to 13 or 14C once again, cooler on west and northwest coasts.

SATURDAY ... There is the threat of cloud and longer spells of rain coming up from the south and southeast to bring a cool, wet day for the south and east of the country. As with recent threats, this could miss Ireland altogether. The northwest and coastal western regions look to be dry for much of the day. Temperatures will be cool under the rain around only 8 or 9C if it occurs in the east whilst it'll be more typical 11-13C elsewhere.

FURTHER AHEAD ... Beyond the possibility of Saturday's rain, things look to remain unsettled or changeable with further showery outbreaks. However, as is typical of May, all the low pressures look rather flabby in nature making them tricky to forecast as to how unsettled it actually is. One thing's for sure is that there's certainly no early summer conditions on the horizon of classic warm and dry. No that's a world away at the moment with this blocking pattern in the North Atlantic and there's no immediate way out of it.

Forecast for Ireland, 6th May 2026

Some good news this morning for any occasions such as communions this weekend. Trends for the weekend ahead look far better today than they did this time yesterday with the previously expected rain on Saturday not looking to reach at least most of Ireland now, still possibly flirting the south coast but on the whole a big improvement. Any precipitation in the next few days will be of showers so rainfall will be below average for the period. Temperatures still disappointing though.

TODAY WEDNESDAY ... An early frosty start (nearly -2C locally in Donegal) with a dry and calm day ahead. Some scattered showers in parts, mainly in the northeast and south but on the whole it will be another day of variable cloud cover and sunny spells. Maximum temperatures of 11-14C.

TONIGHT ... Another cold night with clear spells, a little less cold than this morning. Winds continuing to be very light. Minimum temperatures ranging from 0-7C. Mildest in the south.

TOMORROW THURSDAY ... Cloud increasing from the west after bright spells early on with light rain or showers spreading eastward. Winds veering southwesterly with temperatures up to 15C in the east, 11-14C elsewhere. Milder on Thursday night.

FRIDAY ... Good bit of cloud with some showers. Sunny spells possibly developing later from the north and northwest with a return to northerly winds. Afternoon values hovering around the 12-13C mark generally.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY ... Previously Saturday was looking dreadful for many with rain coming from the east and southeast but the latest trends are for cloud and rain to possibly flirt the south coast but other than that, much better with dry conditions and variable sunny spells. The northerly wind will freshen however so there will be a noticeable chill. The same theme continues into Sunday though more cloud with showery rain could slide down from the north later in the day. Temperatures both days around the 10-14C mark.

FURTHER AHEAD ... Remaining cool and changeable into next week with still no change in store to this blocking pattern we find ourselves in right now.

Sorry for the lack of an update this morning folks. Fortunately, it all remains exactly as forecast yesterday with no changes whatsoever. Lots of dry weather, fair amounts of cloud and scattered showers with some variability on a day to day basis whilst temperatures remain below average for the time of year stuck in the low double digits or low teens.

Forecast for Ireland, 8th May 2026

Trends remain for cooler than average conditions to continue for the time of year through the next week. No return to frost at this point as it will be windier through the weekend but nights will still be cool on the whole under clear spells. Rainfall amounts below par with any precipitation coming in the form of showers. Bear in mind that due to the localisation of showers, some places will get more unlucky than others.

TODAY FRIDAY ... Occasional showers across the south and east with variable cloud cover and some sunny spells. Light winds northerly in direction with afternoon values ranging from 10C on the north coast to 14 or 15C in the southeast.

TONIGHT ... On and off clear spells. Increasingly breezy conditions will limit the temperature from dropping too low down to 5-8C, especially in the south and east where the wind will pick up strongest. It may be a touch lower in the more sheltered northwest.

TOMORROW SATURDAY ... A windy and chilly but mostly dry day with a mix of cloud cover and sunny spells. The wind will make it feel cold, even with sunshine. Afternoon highs up to 13-14C, coolest on eastern and northern coasts exposed to northerly to northeasterly breezes. There possibly will be more general cloud to the south with risk of a shower. For Darkness Into Light sunrise, conditions look decent apart from the wind with some cloud cover over the southern half of the country which may add colour to the sky. Looks generally clear in the far north. Sunrise in Galway is 05:47, 05:50 in Cork and 05:36 in Dublin. Remember that the best sky colours will always be before these times.

SUNDAY ... Variable cloud cover and sunny spells again early on. More general cloud will increase from the north with a risk of showers pushing southward but totals look very low. Afternoon values from 10C on northern coasts up to 14C in the south. Winds lighter than Saturday but still might be noticeable.

MONDAY ... Scattered showers pushing southward but on the whole another day of sunny spells and mixed cloud cover. Northerly winds relatively light to moderate with a similar theme in temperature of 9/10C on northern coasts and a bit higher elsewhere up to 14C.

TUESDAY ... Perhaps a higher shower risk with lower pressure tracking close but like with many recent close shaves, this could miss Ireland altogether and just be another day of sunny spells and cloud cover coming and going with slightly higher temperatures up to 15 or 16C as the northerly flow is cut off veering more west.

Any push towards proper unsettled weather from the North Atlantic keeps getting backdated or reduced and we look to maintain this blocked pattern of fair amounts of cloud but also dry weather with only scattered showers and rather cool conditions going into next week, at least the early part.

Forecast for Ireland, 9th May 2026

Below average temperatures for the foreseeable with increasingly showery risk going into next week. Sunny spells inbetween at times.

TODAY SATURDAY ... Much of the cloud early on is expected to clear southward but will hold on to the south where light rain, drizzle or showers is possible in the thickest cloud. Good sunny spells elsewhere but a cold northeasterly wind will make it feel raw, particularly on exposed north and east coasts. Maximum temperatures up to 15C in the south midlands and inland southeast, only 9-11C in northern areas and on the immediate east coast.

TONIGHT ... The wind looks to significantly ease tonight than previously veering more direct north. Lots of clear spells and as a result it will be cold getting down to 1-3C. Localised frost cannot be ruled out in sheltered areas of the inland north due to the lighter wind by early Sunday morning for a brief period of time, most won't get it where many will remain above freezing.

TOMORROW SUNDAY ... Sunny spells and variable cloud cover with more general cloud cover filtering down from the north later increasing the risk of showers. Winds lighter than Saturday but may continue to feel fresh on exposed coasts, northerly in direction. The mildest conditions will be to the mid-west up to 15C but many won't differ to this away from northern and eastern coasts where it will be 10/11C at best.

MONDAY ... Sunny spells and variable cloud cover. Some scattered light showers possible the early hours of the morning and again for a time during the late afternoon spreading southeastward. Mainly light to moderate northwesterly winds bringing the mildest weather this time to the south coast up to 15C again, northern and northwestern areas coolest up to 10-12C.

TUESDAY ... The low enhancing the shower risk will be close by. This will lead to freshening northwesterly winds with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers after perhaps a cloudy start. Up to 15C in the south and southeast, 10-12C in the north and northwest.

WEDNESDAY ... Blustery conditions prevail with sunshine and showers. Northwesterly winds feeling raw ranging from 10-14C.

Forecast for Ireland, 10th May 2026

Remaining cool in the week ahead with an increasingly showery risk as lower pressure nears Ireland to the northeast. Sunny spells inbetween the showers. The north and northwest will have the highest risk of showers exposed to the northwesterly flow whilst the southern half will be driest.

TODAY SUNDAY ... Sunny spells and dry for many today but cloud will increase from the north pushing southward later with some scattered showers. Significantly lighter winds than yesterday but still might be fresh on exposed coastlines, northerly in direction. Afternoon values generally 13-15C, lower on northern and eastern coasts.

TONIGHT ... Cloud will continue to increase with a few showers pushing southward. Most will have a dry night and perhaps not as cold with minimum temps down to around 4C, the cloud will keep it higher.

TOMORROW MONDAY ... Early cloud and scattered showers will attempt to clear leaving sunny spells later in the day in afternoon highs of 11-15C. Coolest in the north with light northerly breezes.

TUESDAY ... More cloud to start with sunshine and showers following behind. Windy conditions returning, westerly at first veering northwesterly later. Maximum temps from 10/11C in the north to 15C in the south.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY ... Both classic fare of sunshine and showers. Fresh northwesterly winds making it feel noticeably chilly at times in afternoon values of 10-14C. Coolest in the north, mildest in the more sheltered south.

It's likely to remain showery and cool into later next week. There is some hope for a rise in temperatures later in May at last but the signal of course is fleeting at this point as it's a long time away. Enjoy your Sunday all.

Forecast for Ireland, 11th May 2026

A showery week ahead in store with increasingly windy conditions for a time through tomorrow and Wednesday. Calming down a bit after that but remaining on the showery unsettled side. Still the hopes for a rise in temperature possibility from next week. Remaining cool for the time of year in the mean time.

TODAY MONDAY ... A cloudy start with some showers or patchy rain locally clearing southward. Sunny spells developing later with light northerly to northwesterly breezes. Temperatures around 15C later in sunshine away from the the northwest and north where it will be coolest around 11C.

TONIGHT ... Similar to last night with variable cloud and clear spells early on whilst general cloud will increase from the northwest with some patchy rain. Getting down to around 6C at lowest.

TOMORROW TUESDAY ... Another cloudy start with patchy rain clearing southward. Sunshine and showers following behind with northwesterly winds strengthening to gusty levels on exposed Atlantic coastlines. Maximum temperatures around 15/16C in any sunshine in the south whilst it will be closer to 11/12C up north.

WEDNESDAY ... Sunshine and scattered heavy showers. Northwesterly winds remaining rather gusty in nature though easing off later to an extent. Maximum temps between 11C in the north and northwest to 14C in the south.

THURSDAY ... Showers may merge into longer spells of rain from the northwest after a dry start up to the later morning hours. Maximum temps around 12/13C.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND ... Looks mixed again with more showers at times. Perhaps a bit milder with more places into the mid-teens.

As mentioned, there is the hope for a rise in temperature into next week finally after a cool few weeks to start May. How quick that happens? Your guess is as good as mine. The consensus on this morning's models seems to be around the 21st. This rise in temperature is courtesy of a ridge of high pressure building from the Azores which will increase the chance of warmer, sunnier conditions.

Cool with a mix of showers and rain at times but sunny spells inbetween for the week ahead. Continues to be hope for a rise in temperature starting sometime next week, most likely from the 21st.

TODAY TUESDAY ... A cloudy start with some patchy rain or showers pushing southward will be followed by sunny spells developing through the afternoon. However, showers will also develop in freshening northwesterly winds. Milder than of late in the south up to 16C, still cool in the north up to around 11C.

TONIGHT ... Showers will continue to develop from the north with a mix of clear spells inbetween. The fresh west to northwest flow will make it feel cold but temps only getting down to as low as 4-8C.

TOMORROW WEDNESDAY ... Gusty northwesterly winds feeding in a lot of showers. Sunny spells inbetween. Showers and wind will ease off later in the day. Maximum temps from 10C in the north to 13-14C in the south.

THURSDAY ... Cloud quickly gathering pace early on ahead of rain pushing down from the northwest. A cloudy day on the whole with the rain not likely to clear until the later afternoon hours when sunny spells will return from the north. Maximum temps very poor with only 9/10C where cloud and rain stays longest and up to only 11/12C elsewhere. Northwesterly wind not likely to be particularly strong. Colder on Thursday night with clear spells getting down to around 1C in sheltered eastern spots.

FRIDAY ... Lots of dry weather expected now with hazy sunny spells and less showers. There still will be some scattered showers around but mostly dry on the whole. Northwesterly winds rather light in nature and getting up to 14C for many in sunshine. Always cooler around the immediate coasts closer to 11C.

SATURDAY ... Colourful sunrise or dawn sky perhaps early on as cloud builds in the west ahead of rain which will push eastwards gradually through the day. Winds veering southwesterly with maximum temps in the 11-15C range.

SUNDAY AND BEYOND ... Continuing to be mixed and changeable into next week. A signal for it to warm up sometime as pressure builds from the south drawing warmer air from the mid-Atlantic or the continent depending on where this ridge of high pressure goes. No clearer today on when this warm up will begin however.

Forecast for Ireland, 13th May 2026

A cool and changeable week ahead but the signal for a warm up continues next week. The most likely beginning of this warm up is around the 20th which will be rather cloudy and mixed at first and more anticyclonic increasing the sunshine later.

TODAY WEDNESDAY ... Sunshine and showers in a blustery northwesterly to northerly breeze. Wind and showers will ease off as the day goes on. Maximum temps of 10-14C, coolest in the north and northwest.

TONIGHT ... Still a cool northerly breeze at times but significantly calmer than the last 36 hours with good clear spells. Minimum temps down to 3/4C in sheltered parts of the northeast and east. More generally 4-7C.

TOMORROW THURSDAY ... Rain pushing down from the north through the morning and afternoon with sunny spells developing behind. Brisk northerly breeze with maximum temps only 9-12C generally, perhaps 13/14C in the south in any sunshine later if it arrives by the mid-afternoon hours. Cool Thursday night but no frost, lighter winds may lead to mist and fog.

FRIDAY ... Fair amounts of cloud with some isolated showers but a lot of dry weather. Up to 13/14C in any sunshine to the south, cooler in the north around only 10C.

SATURDAY ... High chance of a colourful dawn sky for many ahead of rain approaching from the west which doesn't look that heavy at this point in time though may get persistent lasting through the day clearing the east by Saturday night. Maximum temps 10-13C.

SUNDAY ... Showers or longer spells of rain in blustery westerly winds. Maximum temps similar again 10-13C.

NEXT WEEK ... The early part of next week is expected to continue unsettled with some quite wet weather indicated for Monday right now. Wind veering more southwest bringing air from the mid-Atlantic rather than the north. This means that temperatures will be getting milder even under a lot of cloud and rain at times initially. By Wednesday, 20C could return. Any proper settled weather is likely to not occur until around the weekend after.

Forecast for Ireland, 14th May 2026

Unsettled up to at least mid-week next week. Getting quite wet for a time but also warmer bringing air from the mid-Atlantic. However, a strong signal now for temperatures to go above average from Tuesday onwards with hopes of more settled conditions by the following weekend.

TODAY THURSDAY ... Some showers to the northeast at first with more general rain pushing southeastward through the morning into the afternoon, clearing the east by the evening hours with sunny spells following behind. Northerly winds still rather fresh in nature, calmer than it has been and will further calm down later. Afternoon highs of 10-14C.

TONIGHT ... Good clear spells across the country and mostly dry with just isolated showers possible. Winds falling light could lead to local mist and rather cold getting down to 1 or 2C in sheltered SE spots but no frost. More generally 3-6C.

TOMORROW FRIDAY ... Mostly dry with fair bits of cloud, especially in the west where thicker cloud lead to drizzle. Some scattered showers possible. Mainly light northwesterly winds leading to afternoon highs of 10-14C.

SATURDAY ... Rain pushing through quicker will reduce the chance of a colourful dawn sky which will be limited to the east coast but on the other hand this will give more of a chance of sunny spells becoming more readily available and dry. The rain likely to clear the east coast by the evening hours. Light to moderate winds veering west and southwesterly with highs up to 10-13C.

SUNDAY ... Showers or longer spells of rain arriving from the west in southwesterly winds with good bit of cloud after sunny spells to start. Southwesterly winds strengthening with afternoon highs of 10-14C.

MONDAY ... Wet and increasingly windy as persistent outbreaks of rain arrive from the southwest. Most still stuck around 12-14C whilst parts of the east could get up to 15 or 16C.

TUESDAY ... Heavy rain early on clearing east with sunny spells and scattered showers following behind though unsure how heavy these will be. A good bit milder for all with mid-teens temperatures widely through the afternoon.

WEDNESDAY & BEYOND ... Getting warmer with mid or high teens through mid-week across the entire country. There is the prospect for temperatures to rise further with potential for nationwide 20s by the following weekend as strong influence of high pressure takes hold. The warmest weather of 2026 so far is highly probable.

No detailed update this morning as I have other matters to take care of. All remains the same as yesterday with the prospects of warmer and eventually drier weather later next week still likely to happen.

    Enjoy your Friday.

Forecast for Ireland, 16th May 2026

Turning warmer next week with some quite warm air aloft over Ireland by the weekend. Latest model runs show the high pressure not building in properly enough and staying to our east and southeast. This means that whilst it will be much warmer than it has been for a while, it will be the cloudier humid type it looks like now. Big uncertainty then beyond the following weekend with big temperature differences in runs.

TODAY SATURDAY ... Light to moderate rain pushing eastward this morning into the afternoon from the west with sunny spells and some showers behind. Maximum temps 10-14C in light to moderate southwesterly winds, veering westerly.

TONIGHT ... Some clear spells early on with increasing cloud cover ahead of showery rain developing from the west. Lowest values around 3-5C, 6-8C on west coasts.

TOMORROW SUNDAY ... Very showery with lots of cloud. Some of these showers will be prolonged and heavy. The odd thunder cannot be ruled out. The showers will ease off later in the day with clear spells Sunday night away from the south. Southwesterly winds strengthening again will give a raw feel to the day with afternoon values of 10-14C.

MONDAY ... Dry early on with some clear spells possible away from the south then rain will gather pace pushing northward from the southwest in fresh southerly winds. Maximum values 11-15C.

TUESDAY ... Sunny spells and showers following behind rain clearing northeastward. Southerly to southwesterly winds still blustery in nature. Maximum values 12C on the north coast to 14-17C for most.

WEDNESDAY ... Some further showers with sunny spells. Southwesterly winds easing off a bit. Maximum temps ranging from 13 to 17C.

THURSDAY ... Persistent rain getting close to the west coast pushing northward with some of it also pushing northeastward over the country. Some hazy sunshine at times if rather humid with maximum temps 17-21C, coolest on southern coastlines where lingering low cloud will likely limit the temperature.

FRIDAY and BEYOND ... A rather warm end to the week in the high teens widely but still not fully settled with showery rain still possible on Friday. Too much divergence then between the model output to go beyond that as to where an Atlantic low will be placed and how much effect it will have. Staying out west it will drive up further warm air from the south or go further eastward towards Ireland, it will get a little cooler with rain and blustery winds again. Then in a few days after that, attempt number two of building up higher pressure to give drier and warmer conditions again. It's never simple..

Forecast for Ireland, 17th May 2026

An increasingly humid week with a good bit of showers or rain at times. The mean wind direction will be back to normal from the southwest or south compared to the northerlies or easterlies of recent weeks. Sunshine will be below par for the time of year. Perhaps better by next weekend.

TODAY SUNDAY ... Lots of heavy showers spreading from the west through today with freshening southwesterly winds. Some of these showers are likely to form into thunderstorms threatening the chance of flooding with high rainfall rates in a short period of time. Could lead to photogenic skies. Afternoon values of 10-14C.

TONIGHT ... Shower risk easing with some clear spells forming. Minimum temps getting fairly widely down to 2 or 3C. No frost is expected for almost everywhere but outside chance in sheltered northern spots as winds fall light. Mist possible. Always cloudier in the south and southwest where some showers may still be close by and temperature not falling as low.

TOMORROW MONDAY ... A fiery sky at dawn likely for parts of Connacht, Munster and south Leinster as cloud from an approaching front threatens to bring wet weather northward through the day lasting into the night for many before showers developing once this clears. Sunny spells to start in the north and east. Maximum temps of 11-15C. Increasingly windy southwesterly winds again.

TUESDAY ... Another day of heavy showers and blustery southwesterly winds with afternoon values of 11-16C.

WEDNESDAY ... Continuing to be on the showery side with a mix of sunny spells inbetween. Blustery southwesterly winds remain with afternoon highs of 13-17C.

THURSDAY ... A damp and humid day with lighter southerly winds but still moderate at times. If any sunshine occurs, could get above 20C. More generally in the 14-19C range.

FRIDAY and BEYOND still good bit of uncertainty that the models are trying to iron out on details. More positive generally than they were yesterday for higher pressure to start influencing the weather by Saturday/Sunday and in turn dry and warm but still time for change so don't take it as gospel.

Forecast for Ireland, 18th May 2026

Looking very positive this morning for warmer and drier weather from this weekend with models singing from a similar hymn sheet to high pressure building from Saturday with warm weather then set to last into early next week before uncertainty arises thereafter. More on this below. Temperatures trending well above average, sunshine and exact wind direction will determine how high they go.

TODAY MONDAY ... Rain will spread from the southwest after a misty and dry start for many with some bright spells. Parts of the north and northeast could stay dry for much of the day. The rain will clear the south later in the evening into the night with showers following behind. Freshening southerly winds as the day goes on. Maximum temps of 11-15C.

TONIGHT ... Mild with rather moderate southerly winds. Rain at first will clear northeastwards but further showers will develop behind from the southwest. Not getting below 8-11C generally.

TOMORROW TUESDAY ... A similar day to Sunday is likely if a bit milder with plenty of showers expected which could merge into longer spells of rain and thunderstorms are possible. Blustery southwesterly winds with maximum temps of 11-16C.

WEDNESDAY ... Sunshine and scattered showers, less so compared to Tuesday. Southwesterly winds will ease somewhat and veering southerly. Temperature could rise to 18C in inland southern and eastern regions in the sunshine, 13-17C further north and on the immediate south coast. Rain possible from the west later in the day into the night pushing northeastward.

THURSDAY ... Damp and humid with mist along southern coastlines and hills due to the moist southerly flow. Some longer spells of rain through the afternoon from the southwest. Maximum temps of 20C or slightly higher in the north and east possible in any hazy sunshine but a lot of cloud around. The south coast might only get 12 or 13C at best and west coast only a little better.

FRIDAY ... Similar day again with a lot of cloud as the humid southerly winds continue bringing mist to exposed regions such as the south coasts and hills. Some hazy sunny spells could give 20C, mainly in the east. Heavy showery rain out west.

SATURDAY ... Some scattered showers around with winds becoming more variable. More sunny spells. Still a good bit of moisture in the air could lead to misty morning conditions as winds fall light. Maximum temps widely 17-21C.

SUNDAY ... Variable light winds with good sunshine likely at this point in time and the temperature responding well to widespread 20s away from immediate coastlines. Mist may occur in the morning and linger around in parts.

NEXT WEEK ... Right now and there's a lot that could still change, the start of next week is likely to continue in the warm vein with temperatures widely into the 20s by day. One model attempts to cool down things again whilst others maintain a warm, continental easterly flow with instability rising leading to chance of thunderstorms. Easterly winds start to warm up this time of year and they don't have the same cooling effect as they do earlier in the season.

Little changes from yesterday’s detailed forecast update. Maybe not quite as warm on Saturday but today until then will be quite mixed before a change to mostly dry and warm conditions developing. Could get very warm early next week.

Forecast for Ireland, 20th May 2026

Becoming warm and dry from the weekend into next week, could get very warm by then with light easterly winds. These drier conditions could last out the rest of May. Weak fronts close by may give more cloud closer to the west coast and cooler, at least for a time.

TODAY WEDNESDAY ... Good bit drier for many today with less in the way of showers. However, some rain will approach from the southwest later in the day pushing northward in a humid southerly flow with maximum temps up to 17 or 18C in sunshine in the east, 14-16C for many.

TONIGHT ... Rain will continue to extend northward with cloudy conditions which will hold up the temperature. Very mild night not getting below 12 or 13C generally.

TOMORROW THURSDAY ... Humid with mist along exposed southern coasts. Some patchy rain initially will be followed by a period of more persistent rain pushing northward from the south, heaviest along the west coast and may only be drizzly in the east. Some hazy sunny spells possible away from the west, north and south coast. Maximum temps up to 19C in the east, only 13C on the south coast and 15-17C generally elsewhere.

FRIDAY ... Some showers developing with a few sunny spells. Humid southerly flow maintained meaning again the south coast could be misty and damp with only 13 or 14C at best. In sunny spells, the east could be up to 19 or 20C whilst others 16-18C.

SATURDAY ... Sunshine breaking out during the day with good sunny spells by the afternoon. More cloud closer to the west coast, especially the northwest. Wind becoming more variable in direction. Temperatures ranging from 16 or 17C on the south and northwest coast to 21C in the midlands.

SUNDAY ... Good sunny spells across the country. Watch out for the risk of mist or fog on exposed coasts as the air will still be humid in nature at times. Warming up to most places reaching at least 18-21C by now, coolest in the northwest and southwest coast. Could be a little higher than that in the midlands.

MONDAY ... Cloud very close by to the northwest may put a dampener on things up in Donegal to Mayo coast area whilst elsewhere there is the prospects for lots of warm sunshine with 24 or 25C possible inland. It will always be a fair bit cooler on the immediate coast.

BEYOND MONDAY ... Good warm sunshine across the country set to continue for at least a few days into next week with mid 20s. Possibly cooler by the 28th but remaining on the dry side as models are showing plentiful high pressure influence through the rest of May. It's far too early to see if this will extend out to the June Bank Holiday.

Forecast for Ireland, 21st May 2026

Mixed few days before a dry and warm weekend with variable spells of sunshine lasting into next week. High pressure influence likely to last out until at least the final few days of May, possibly beyond.

TODAY THURSDAY ... Cloud and occasional rain will push northwards with the heaviest over the west coast through the early to mid-afternoon. Some hazy sunny spells possible behind but southern coastlines and hills likely to be misty. A humid day with max temps up to 19 or 20C in the east and 14C on southwest coast, ranging between 15-17C elsewhere. Southerly winds moderate in nature.

TONIGHT ... Very mild and cloudy not getting below 12C generally again. Some showery rain or drizzle in the north and west, mainly dry otherwise.

TOMORROW FRIDAY ... Good bit of cloud with some showers developing through the day. Mist and fog will again be a risk for the south exposed to the humid southerly to southwesterly flow. Max temps only 14C here and up to 19-20C in the midlands and east. Possibly a colourful sunset as the band of cloud and showers clears to the east Friday evening.

SATURDAY ... Variable cloud cover, sunny spells best away away from south and north coasts. Around 16 or 17C on northwest and south coasts with the southwesterly flow maintained, 18-21C inland and the east.

SUNDAY ... Variable cloud cover with warm spells of sunshine which is likely to become more nationwide by the afternoon as clearer continental air starts to feed in. Max temps still only 15C on the immediate south coast exposed to southerly flow whilst most will enjoy temps in the 20s by now getting up to 22C in places.

MONDAY ... Some cloud courtesy of a weak front could push southward with the odd shower possible. The cloud doesn't look particularly thick or widespread but it will be a bit cooler behind this front to the north with max temps in the 16-19C range whilst the south could be as much as 24C.

TUESDAY ... There is now uncertainty on how warm it will be. Plenty of warm air aloft over Ireland but how much of that will be taken advantage of as some recent models now show a North Sea undercut which will give cooler, cloudier weather at the surface and could be very disappointing on north and east coasts, still warm in the southwest relatively sheltered. Forecasts in the coming days will hopefully firm up on this and get a clearer picture.

BEYOND TUESDAY ... Uncertainty on how warm it will be but continuing dry for the foreseeable. No immediate way out of this blocking pattern. June Bank Holiday prospects? Give it a week at earliest, it's far too early to get worthwhile thoughts on what could happen then.

EDIT: Included recent uncertainty on the extent of the warmth early next week.

Forecast for Ireland, 22nd May 2026

Universally dry weather likely out to the final few days of May. The warmest weather at first in the east and southeast through the next few days, eventually transferring to the west by Tuesday as the wind direction switches to the east. Always the risk of sea fog on exposed coasts which may come in sudden and ruin a beachgoers day.

TODAY FRIDAY ... Some occasional showers, heavier for a time pushing up from the southwest during the afternoon and fizzling out as it reaches the east. Some late sunnier spells from the west with the cloud clearing east could lead to a colourful sunset for some. The east looks best placed for this provided there is sufficient clearance to the west at the time. The day itself will have a good bit of cloud with max temps from 14/15C on south coasts to 16-19C elsewhere. Damp and misty on exposed south coasts and hills, also to the northwest.

TONIGHT ... Variable cloud and clear spells, thicker cloud into the west and northwest by dawn. Mist and fog forming as winds fall light, especially in the south, southeast and over the Wicklow Mountains. Minimum temps of 7-10C, coolest inland and mildest by the coast.

TOMORROW SATURDAY ... Some hazy sunny spells, cloudier to the northwest where thick cloud may produce drizzle. Temperature rising to 20 or 21C in sunshine in the midlands, east and southeast away from the coast. Only 14-16C on south coasts where there could still be the risk of fog and to the northwest. More fog possible Saturday night here.

SUNDAY ... Some cloud at first, especially to the northwest. Sunshine developing more widely through the day as clear continental air feeds in from the southeast. Maximum temps up to 22C in the midlands. Cooler to the north and south.

MONDAY ... Widespread mist and fog to start the day but good warm sunshine across the country. The warmest day of 2026 so far is likely with widespread 20s up to 24 or 25C possible in the south midlands and southeast. Risk of sea fog continues on exposed coasts, details closer to the time.

TUESDAY / WEDNESDAY ... Easterly wind picking up which will transfer the warmest conditions to the west and southwest of the country where it could get up to 25C. The north and east coast will be significantly cooler where it will struggle to reach 20C but good sunshine likely nationwide. Likelihood of fog reducing.

BEYOND MID-WEEK ... Continuing pleasantly warm for many away from the east coast and dry to the end of the week. Lots of different scenarios on the placement of high pressure which is critical to determining if it will continue relatively warm or get fresher.

Forecast for Ireland, 23rd May 2026

High pressure influence is to continue until at least Thursday. Models have started firming up on the idea that it will weaken by then and a southwesterly flow will return later next week gradually increasing cloud cover and damp conditions after a couple of sunny days.

As from the beginning, this warm spell which starts from today for some was never going to be a heatwave. IWO has never even mentioned the word heatwave throughout forecasting it since the signal for increasingly warm temperatures started to appear on models a few weeks ago. The media as predictably so has caught onto this spamming the word heatwave left right and centre giving a false perception. Officially, Met Éireann defines a heatwave as a station recording a maximum temperature above 25C over 5 consecutive days. That was never on the cards. Since 1940 when digitised records began, there has only been one official heatwave on record in the month of May, back in 2012. Of course there have been lots of warm spells over the years in May. The models were signalling something a bit more notable for a couple of days than what we will get in the end but that's the nature of weather forecasting for an island on the door of the North Atlantic. It's not a heatwave. It's just a period of pleasant weather and significantly warmer than it has been for a while.

TODAY SATURDAY ... Low cloud, mist and fog burning away this morning with hazy sunshine across the country. Generally cloudier out to the west and northwest where thicker cloud may produce drizzle. Maximum temps up to 20 or 21C in parts of Leinster whereas the south coast and northwest will be 15-17C and 17-19C elsewhere. May still be damp in the south due to the southerly to southwesterly flow being maintained from recent days.

TONIGHT ... Mist and fog will return, moreso for Munster. Cloudy to the northwest with clear spells elsewhere. Temperatures dropping to 7C in the south and staying in double digits under the cloud to the north and northwest.

TOMORROW SUNDAY ... After the mist and fog burns off again though sea fog may linger on exposed south and east coasts, it will be another day of spells of sunshine and this is likely to spread to all areas by the afternoon and evening. Cloudy at first in the northwest. Many areas getting up to 20 or 21C with locally higher in north Munster and Leinster in light southerly breezes.

MONDAY ... Cloud close by to the northwest though might stay offshore, otherwise a sunny day with early mist and fog clearing for most. The chance of sea fog lingering on exposed coasts continues. The warmest day of 2026 so far with 25 or 26C possible in Munster and Leinster. Even the north will see widespread 20s. Remember it will always be cooler at the immediate coast, significantly so in some cases depending on how strong the sea breeze develops which peaks from noon to mid-afternoon.

TUESDAY ... Further mist and fog to start the day, mainly over Munster. Winds veering east to northeasterly will bring the warmest weather now to the west and southwest where it could get up to 25 or 26C away from the coast in prolonged sunshine. The breeze will pick up giving a little bit of a chill on exposed north and east coasts where the temperature may only be 15 or 16C at best but further inland it will be closer to 20C.

WEDNESDAY ... Another day of good sunshine for the most part. Some showers possible from the southwest. The warmest weather this time will be transferred to the northwest as the wind veers more south of east with up to 25 or 26C potentially again. Immediate south and east coasts significantly cooler in the mid-teens with temps into the 20s inland.

BEYOND WEDNESDAY ... High pressure is likely to weaken and a southwesterly flow returns increasing the cloud cover and light rain. Staying warm and increasingly humid for a time with the warmest weather eventually returning back to Leinster and parts of Munster by the end of the week. Temperatures will decrease from what they were a few days ago back to the 16-20C range. No strong signal for unsettled weather but given the pressure pattern, it would likely become more damp towards the June Bank Holiday weekend.

If you have the sunshine, get out and enjoy it when you can. Let's not worry about later next week for now!

Forecast for Ireland, 25th May 2026

Significantly above average temperatures over the next few days getting widely into the mid 20s from Monday to Wednesday with lots of sunshine though always cooler by the coast, especially the north and east from Tuesday as the wind veers more east. Likely cooler by the end of the week as conditions gradually turn changeable in time for the June Bank Holiday.

TODAY MONDAY ... Early mist and fog burning off to bring a very warm and sunny day across the country. Maximum temps up to 26C in Munster and Leinster, possibly a little higher locally with light southerly breezes.

TONIGHT ... Very mild and good clear spells for many with temps only getting down to 14-15C in the south, a little cooler up north where some more cloud is possible. Patches of mist and fog could form just about anywhere, thickest over Munster and Ulster.

TUESDAY ... Once mist and fog burns off, it will be another very warm day for most with long spells of sunshine. Some cloud will come and go. Wind veering easterly bringing cooler conditions to the north and east coast. Max temps between 16-20C here whilst many will range from 20-26C, again locally higher with the warmest conditions focused on the west and southwest.

WEDNESDAY ... Continuing warm with good sunny spells for the most part. Scattered showers may come up from the south as the air attempts to destabilise which if so could be of a thundery kind but these will be very hit or miss if they do occur. Easterly wind remaining leading to 26C in the west and 17-20C on the north and east coast.

THURSDAY ... Further scattered showers possible with variable cloud cover and sunny spells. Wind veering more south of east so the warmth will be more evenly spread and coolest towards the northwest and southern coasts. A little cooler than recent days but still warm mainly in the low to mid 20s.

FRIDAY ... Cloudy to start the day and the odd shower with more in the way of sunny spells later. Cooler with mid to high teens, still 20 or 21C possible in the east and southeast.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY ... Uncertain on timing but it's likely that we will see at least one band of rain cross the country from the Atlantic followed by showers. Max temps a little above average still in the high teens or touching 20C in the east - Atlantic coasts in the mid teens.

BEYOND ... The start of June is looking changeable with a general west to southwesterly flow. Cooler conditions to come with this. There's some signs that this may not outstay its welcome with a return to higher pressure sometime within the first or second week of the month which would give warm and dry conditions. All hope is not lost if you like this weather at the moment once it leaves by the weekend.

Forecast for Ireland, 26th May 2026

Very warm weather today and tomorrow before conditions gradually get fresher by the weekend as the Atlantic flow returns. Looking rather unsettled then into early June with rain and showers at times. There is promise of high pressure influence returning mid-June based on long range drivers - give or take the margin of error is always higher as to their influence on Ireland's weather. Sometimes they can be helpful in seeing the potential for changes such as this warm spell being signalled as early as the second week of May.

TODAY TUESDAY ... Exceptionally warm with temperatures above 27C for the south midlands, inland southeast and the mid-west where records could be broken. It will be cooler on the east and especially north coast where temps will be in the mid to high teens due to a moderate east to northeasterly wind. Prolonged spells of sunshine but the odd shower cannot be ruled out over land due to instability sparked from the heat.

TONIGHT ... Some patches of mist with good clear spells. Mild not getting below 13 or 14C in the south, cooler in the north getting under 10C.

TOMORROW WEDNESDAY ... The final notable warm day with high 20s possible again in parts of the west and southwest as the easterly flow is maintained. This will give cooler conditions on the east coast in the mid to high teens. Further inland easily into the 20s in good sunshine again. The chance of a localised shower sparked from the heat with thunder, this risk continues into Wednesday night which will be very mild.

THURSDAY ... Good bit of cloud, rather humid with showers or general outbreaks of rain spreading from the west. Max temps up to 23 or 24C still possibly, coolest on west, south and east coasts exposed to winds which will veer from south to southwesterly.

FRIDAY ... Cloud and drizzle clearing east early on with sunny spells following behind. Cooler than of late but still not too bad in the east and south up to 20C, 14-17C in the west and north.

SATURDAY ... A colourful sky early on likely ahead of rain spreading from the west through the late morning into the afternoon. The rain doesn't look particularly heavy with low totals forecast for most of a couple of millimetres. Max temps in the high teens to the east and low teens in the west and south coast.

Forecast for Ireland, 27th May 2026

Late with the update today. Very warm to hot today but becoming gradually cooler from tomorrow and cooler than average conditions set to last into early June. Hints towards it warming up again towards mid-June starting to appear in the model output via pressure building.

TODAY WEDNESDAY ... Easterly wind bringing the coolest weather towards the east coast where it will be low 20s inland but under 20C on the immediate coast, moderate breeze occasionally. But the west will be very warm to hot with temperatures widely above 27 or 28C with records threatening again. Good sunshine until later in the afternoon when cloud will increase and thunderstorms likely to move in from the south and spreading gradually northeastward. These storms could occur just about anywhere. Keep an eye on the radar and don't get caught out in one as rainfall rates could be intense in a short period of time consisting of strong hail as well.

TONIGHT ... The thunderstorms will ease off with mostly dry conditions developing. Winds falling light could result in mist and fog returning, especially to Munster and inland southern Leinster. Very mild with temperatures not getting below 12-14C for a good few places. Coolest in the north.

TOMORROW THURSDAY ... Humid and cloudier than recent. Temperatures could still reach 24 or 25C in any hazy sunny spells in a southeasterly flow but it will be a lot cooler for some, especially the south coast where it may only be mid-teens at best under mist and drizzle.

FRIDAY ... Early cloud and drizzle clearing to give a pleasant day of sunny spells and dry weather. Winds veering southwesterly, mostly light away from the north and northwest. Max temps could still get up to low 20s in parts of Munster and Leinster but most will be high teens.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND ... Mostly changeable with average temperatures for the time of year in mid to high teens for most but the east could still do well due to the nature of the wind direction where in any sunshine could continue in the low 20s. The cloud and rain looks to arrive significantly earlier on Saturday now before clearing by the afternoon and evening for the west and followed by sunshine and showers. Sunday will follow this theme of sunshine and showers, some of these showers could be quite widespread early on before scattering out later in the day.

BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY ... Heavy rain or showers will push eastward early on with further showers following and cooler for all but average for the time of year in the mid to upper teens.

EARLY JUNE will consist of further showers or rain at times. Winds blowing off the North Atlantic will give quite cool conditions at times during the day but cold nights unlikely as the airmass will be maritime sourced unlike the arctic maritime sourced airmasses in the first half of May. Remember that in exceptional cases, frost is even possible in June. There is promise of pressure building from mid-June to give a return to the warmer and dry conditions. The hints are there but we're talking at least 2-3 weeks away. Until then, if you love warmth and sunshine, today is the last day for most to make the most of it.

Forecast for Ireland, 29th May 2026

A predominantly unsettled outlook after today through to early June. All looks rather normal Irish fare of winds blowing from the west and temperatures stuck in the mid-teens, the average temperature for early June is around 15-17C depending on where you are in the country. However, above average rainfall can be expected due to the pattern, mostly in the form of showers but also some rain bands passing through occasionally. Hints of the change back to warmer, drier conditions by the 13th June in the model output.

TODAY FRIDAY ... A fine day with good sunny spells across the country. Winds blowing from the southwest will give the warmest weather in the east where it could get to a respectable 21-23C whilst most will be 16-20C. The wind will be moderate at times, moreso early on in the northwest.

TONIGHT ... Cloud increasing as the night goes with rain arriving in the west by dawn. Mist and fog patches possible ahead for a time under lighter winds but winds will strengthen later from the south. Mild only getting down to between 9C in the northeast to 12 or 13C for most.

TOMORROW SATURDAY ... Rain and showers spreading eastward from the west. Some sunny spells will on behind but with further showers, heavy at times especially up north. Showers will ease off somewhat in the evening with more sunny spells. Maximum temps ranging from 15C on south and western coasts to 19 or 20C in the east with rather moderate southerly winds.

SUNDAY ... Sunny spells and scattered showers which look rather light in nature, easing off in the evening. Cloud will increase in the southwest by the early evening hours with some rain and showers arriving here pushing northeastward. Maximum temps 15-20C, warmest in the east again.

MONDAY ... The previous rain that was expected early on Monday looks to stay mostly to the south but could clip the south and southeast coast. Nonetheless, it still looks mostly cloudy to start the day with some scattered showers about and further showers developing through the day with heavy downpours possible inbetween sunny spells. Maximum temps could still get up to 19 or 20C in the east whilst most will be in the mid teens from 14-17C.

TUESDAY ... Showery and blustery winds from the west, afternoon values of 14-18C. Showers easing off in the evening and winds calming. Some rain from the southwest is possible on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning but timing may be a little later.

Forecast for Ireland, 30th May 2026

Unsettled picture for the foreseeable through the final few days of May and first third of June in a predominantly west to southwesterly airflow off the North Atlantic giving rain and showers at times with sunny spells inbetween. This means that temperatures will be close to or below average for the time of year and the fresh nature of the wind occasionally will make it feel distinctly chilly. The east will be mildest whilst the west will be coolest. Any significant improvement in conditions is not likely until at least the 12th June when higher pressure could return.

TODAY SATURDAY ... Dry start in the east with light winds at first, turning moderate with rain elsewhere attempting to clear eastward across the country by the evening hours. However, further showers will occur behind with various sunny spells. Some of these showers will be on the heavy side, thunder cannot be ruled out especially in Ulster. Afternoon highs up to 20C in the east whilst most will be in the mid-teens.

TONIGHT ... Showers easing off but some scattered ones will continue, mainly up north. Variable clear spells in light southwesterly winds. Rather mild getting down to 9 or 10C.

TOMORROW SUNDAY ... A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers in light to moderate southwesterly winds. Afternoon highs ranging from 15C out west and south to 20C in the east. Some showery rain will arrive from the southwest by the evening hours spreading northeastward, rather light in nature for most.

MONDAY ... Cloudy for a good part of the day for many with widespread showers, occasionally heavy. Yesterday there was a correction on the placement of some more general rain on Monday morning, this seems to have been corrected back of it reaching Munster and Leinster unfortunately, could be very wet for a time here before it clears by the early afternoon but further showers brought in by moderate westerly winds. Maximum temps 14-18C, mildest in the south and east.

TUESDAY ... A typical day of sunshine and occasionally heavy showers in brisk westerly winds of temperatures ranging from 14-18C west to east. Some rain on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

WEDNESDAY ... Rain will clear before more heavy showers develop behind and sunny spells inbetween. Westerly winds becoming gusty in 14-18C highs.

Forecast for Ireland, 1st June 2026

Rather cool and unsettled first week to June with plenty of rain and showers. Drying trend going into the second week for the south of the country with hopes of this extending further north later in the second week which by then, temperatures look to warm up too. As with any long range, it's subject to changes.

TODAY MONDAY ... Rain in Munster and Leinster through the morning will clear northeastward into the afternoon with further showers, occasionally heavy, following behind. Maximum temperatures ranging from 14C in the northwest to high teens in the south and east. Light to moderate winds from the southwest.

TONIGHT ... Some clear spells but remaining showery on the whole nationwide, this will keep it rather mild for most in 11/12C at lowest.

TUESDAY ... A very showery day with lots of rain showers, feeling cool for the start of June in occasional brisk westerly winds with maximum temps of only 14-16C for most places, possibly a touch higher in the south and east. The odd thunder cannot be ruled out. Showers will ease Tuesday night before some more rain from the west later in the night.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY ... After the rain clears Wednesday morning, both days will be very showery with lots of showers again that could merge into longer spells of rain. Westerly winds increasing to fresh or gusty levels. Pretty poor early June weather with afternoon highs at best 16 or 17C in the east and parts of the south and 13-15C for others.

FRIDAY & THE WEEKEND ... The showery days will continue into the weekend with one band of rain signalled later Saturday into Sunday. The showery risk looks to be reduced from earlier in the week but it looks cool on Saturday especially with temps ranging from just 12-16C.
