I think if Dublin have any ambitions to winning Sam again in the next few years they need to win Leinster this year otherwise they will be back with the chasing pack for a lengthy barren spell. A Leinster win for the new crop would be a massive confidence booster.

Facts are facts. Meath saved Leinster last year and made the championship great again. Meanwhile nobody in Dublin cares about you anymore. It's just a shame the hurlers support base has remained tiny. It was an embarrassment being outnumbered in croke park the way you were last year. A league of Ireland stronghold is what Dublin has become. A real shame because our capital is very important when it comes to national identity.

Facts are facts Meath blew it again v Louth and again, v Westmeath. If anyone has “saved” the Leinster championship it was a Dub Ger Brennan (who managed Louth to glory- despite the language barrier) their first Leinster title since 1957. And their first final since Meathman Joe Sheridan scored a “try” v Louth in the 2010 final.

And another Dub (Jim Gavin) who brought in new rules to make football in Leinster more exciting. Poor sides like Meath could no longer keep 14 men behind the ball at all times, and hope for the best.

It basically was two Dubs in combination who “saved” Leinster. Meath are just a punchline in the comedy version of it.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

You are correct, the facts show that Meath have bottled their two best chances over the last 16 years of winning Leinster.

Whst gets me is the Meath shower don’t want to admit it, they have no Dublin to blame now. One of the funniest arguments I heard when Dublin were doing well, was that Meath’s confidence was gone because of the hidings from Dublin.

Spun the other way now, it seems Meath are giving teams like Louth and Westmeath great confidence!

I don’t know if there is a Meath GAA thread on this site? But if I ever did find it, I would guess they are even less happy than usual.

Ger Brennan or the new rules wouldn't have made a difference in the years Dublin won at a canter and it's yet to be seen if Louth can in fact beat Dublin. In fact Dublin winning margins would have been bigger.

The only reason for the massive Leinster final attendance last year and the spectacle it brought was because meath beat Dublin. The Dublin v Louth final the year previous tells it all.

Personally was delighted to see Louth bridge a historical gap and it was for the greater good. Westmeath beating Meath was another fantastic result for Leinster gaa it's just a real shame Wicklow couldn't beat Dublin. We need Louth to win or else we're back to the same old same old and everyone loses interest again.

Louth vs Westmeath final would be a dream come true. I wouldn't know who to cheer for. Probably just about go for Westmeath considering they've only 1 title in 2004, but becareful what we wish for. We know what happened the last Westmeath won and the plan Bertie/GAA put in place.

Same old same old , 15 years of whinging about the big bad Dublin 🙄🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,651 ✭✭✭dunnerc

Go dry your eyes lad and try stop the whinging, facts are facts Meath are bottlers , maybe try to forget about big bad Dublin for once 😂🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭JohnDoe2025

It is funny. I know Meath supporters who would tell me that only for Dublin, they would have won an All-Ireland. That is now being shown up as laughable.

God be with the days when this was a thread about Dublin GAA😁

It's ironic because you replied to the original post of mine which effectively said I'm a big fan of Jim Gavin on OTB with your usual.

Most Dublin fans have long since forgotten about big bad Dublin. League of Ireland attendance increases speak for themselves. I know a fair few former Dublin fans who go regularly to LOI now.

And the best part is it can't be fixed by returning to winning every year. You might never see a return to the glory days we associated with Dublin for decades.

Ah lad dry your eyes , Meath will win a Leinster without stealing one lol...any year now 😂

Anyway back to business. Don’t mind those irrelevant counties.
I see the Match up of the current Leinster champs (Louth) v former champs (Dublin) is not even televised! Only on GAA+.
I would have thought neutrals would have liked to see it. I wonder will that mean more/less of a crowd to travel to O’Moore park as.a result?

Time of writing stand tickets on sale now as well as tickets obviously came back.

Louth will bring a big crowd they will out number us down there I think .

You’re probably right. there was loads of Louth supporters at the Leinster final last in year in CP. Think they were the majority v the runners up fans.
if is anything like that again could be a sea of red.
At least Portlaoise is a handy ground to get to and back from, compared to most grounds.

Doesn’t matter which division should be a tight championship game. One former Leinster winner, one current winner. If I was neutral I would watch on telly if it was on. But since it is on GAA+ the neutrals, would think twice.

It will be interesting to see which matches turn out to be most exciting Ulster, Leinster or Munster ?

There are no medals for winning semi finals 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,632 ✭✭✭Gael85

Kerry must have the same amount of provincial titles(14) as Dublin over last 15 years. They will overtake this when beat Cork in two weeks while Dublin lose to Louth.

In Leinster Meath, Kildare, Offaly and Louth have prominent at u20/minor in recent years.

Kerry are dominant are all levels in football in Munster. Cork teams might win on a rare ocassion.

What will save the Munster football championship?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,176 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

The GAA should reduce funding for Kerry football and redirect to the rest in Munster.

No medals but we're talking for the good of the association, the sport which is effectively our culture. The Leinster championship is an integral part of that and Meath last year brought it back from irrelevance. I really hope Louth can do likewise this year but my money is on Dublin.

It will be a very weak championship if Dublin win it this year going by what I have watched so far this year .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 22,614 ✭✭✭✭Bass Reeves

Ya I agree as a measure to protect hurling it shoukd remove hurling funding from Limerick, Cork and Tipperary and redirect it to Kerry and Waterford. Clare shoukd retainnits present percentage.

The reason the GAA redirected coaching funding from Dublin was because the imbalance in funding. Funding was was an underage number playing basis. This created a funding imbalance. Dublin was getting upmon what 3-4 other counties were getting. It created a situation where coaches were assigned to clubs. Dublin clubs were accessing a significant funds from business which was allowing clubs to.employ second coaches.

In other counties coaches were tied multiple clubs and rrally only involved at schools level

Louth are favourites . Hopefully we can give them a game.

Not in my book but hopefully you get beat. Leinster needs it.

Not sure if you have watched Dublin this year,we are a bang average side and Louth would be favs in my view .It remains to be seen if any Leinster team is capable of really winning a big knockout game later in the championship, I would doubt that at the moment .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,176 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Dublin narrowly relegated from Div 1 and Louth missed out on promotion from div 2.

Louth mentally are yet to prove they can beat Dublin in my lifetime. Are we talking the 70's? Meath are the only side to beat Dublin in Leinster in 28 years. The province badly needs a win for Louth tomorrow. I'll be cheering them on but Dublin are heavy favourites in my book.

Well you must need a trip to specsavers to read your book properly, Louth are big big favorites for this match , Sure Wicklow should have beaten a very weak Dublin , the weakest Dublin team in a very long time.
