No, still in England but enjoying his current jaunt around Ireland. Hadn't heard that about Fire in Cairo.

Great gig tonight in the Theatre Royal Waterford by Status Quo's Francis Rossi

A brilliant entertainer and guitarist, you forgot how good Quo are. Wouldn't say there's a wedding/party in Ireland that a song of there's is played (well one is borrowed)

A safe iconic band of Brtish rock

Next up more Legacy acts with Paul Simon on the 20th May

Peaches, Academy - no lube so rude tour.

Was not sure what to expect but it was a very entertaing performance with frequent costume changes, herself and the two dancers worked their arses off whether they were on the stage, on the balcony, on the audience (literally).

Musically, it's all very high powered pulsating dance music with a filthy bass, she was singing along to a backing track which i guess is how she can make a tour viable for her with small venues. The lass can actually sing too, she had a few slower very commercial sounding tracks towards the end of the set which would be perfect on a soundtrack or advert.

First time seeing her, pretty much bought the ticket on a whim of morbid curiosity, 10/10 would see again.

1st Merch stand I've ever seen to have buttplug sets available too, not for me but it's obviously up someones alley (badum tish!)

Special gig from Jacob Alon in the Button Factory last night. A send off for the album they pretty much launched last year in the Workman's. Some added knob twiddling, guest appearances for Junior Brother, Sexy Tadhg and Jacob's step mother on a great Auld Triangle. A voice that gets you like Jeff Buckley's did. Really looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Excellent gig alright. Didn't realise there was so much Gaelic spoken in Dunfermline ;-). Jacob's voice is sublime but Kudos to the sound desk - the sound (voice & guitar) was perfect. Get the JB comparison but at times Jacob's voice put me in mind of ANOHNI. Seems a genuinely nice person and very appreciative of the crowd.

    Forgot to post this:

Nordic Giants - The Mash House, Edinburgh 1st April. Have wanted to see them live since I bought their album, A Séance Of Dark Delusions about 10 years ago. Known for mixing visual storytelling with cinematic, post-rock, soundscapes - they didn't disappoint.
The Mash House was a really small venue, maybe 200 people. Great sound and totally respectful crowd, no chatter ! They played the new album in full, with accompanying short films for each track. Dark, post apocalyptic, but uplifting storytelling. The final film had a shocking ending (I won't spoil it) after the end credits and band had left the stage - then houselights and BOOM - house PA blasts Rupert Holmes "Escape (The Piña Colada Song) - it was quite jarring. From bleak poignancy to frivolous pop … excellent gig.

THE hottest ticket in town for the last few months has been Madra Salach in Workman’s.

Decided to try and see if I could get one on the door but despite asking everyone, none were available.

I gave up and went to go to another gig across the Liffey in Sin É but, despite being completely sober, the bouncer took a dislike to me and wouldn’t let me in. First time in goodness know how many decades this has happened to me, still makes your blood boil.

    😡

So I went back to Workman’s and 10 minutes before the band were due on stage, got a ticket! (For less than cover price too) 😎

I’d been warned they weren’t the liveliest band and sure enough they had four chairs set up at the front of the stage.

Couldn’t believe how young they were when they appeared. But the lead singer, Paul Banks, has a fantastic voice. He really can make a song his own.

A great night of Irish ballads with a little bit of diddly thrown in.

Plus I got a set list!!!!

Never, ever, ever give up. Always remember, for every no you are one step closer to a yes.

Have a great weekend everyone, it’s Friday!

And to add to this; L.O.E (Last Of Eden) the main support were banging and had also wanted to see them live too. Both their albums are great.

90 minutes of solid art rock from Dry Cleaning at Vicar Street last night. Florence's spoken word approach is obviously the big selling point for the fans of the band. In a way it feels that it limits things somewhat. But the rest of the band around her are great musicians and the sound was very good, albeit fairly similar to the studio recordings. They played the new album, Secret Love, in full and a variety of songs from the rest of their discography.

Quiet impressed by the support band, Dublin trio Search Results. Somewhere between indie rock and punk, their sound is very energetic, and I thought they sound better live, compared to what I heard at their Bandcamp (granted, just one quick listen). One that I'll keep an eye on.

Also, first time that I saw (or, at least, that I recall of) the Vicar Street balcony being closed.

Following on from the previous poster, I was also at Dry Cleaning’s gig — my first of the year — and thought they were fantastic.

It had been over four years since I last saw them (my first gig back post-lockdown in the Button Factory), so I hadn’t fully kept up with the newer material. There’s a subtle melodic quality there that really works live from what I can hear, that their experimenting with in the newer material. Honestly, I think DC might have been even better than the last time I saw them.

The balcony was closed which was a first for me to see too.

Search Results were excellent too — a bit of an Interpol vibe at times, but looser. Tempted to pick up their EP on CD, though I wasn’t sure how many tracks are on it. I’ll definitely check out more.

I ended up buying the Search Results vinyl album and a cassette EP (that came with a bandcamp download code). There is a DIY feel to their merchandise. Their songs tend to be on the shorter side (very much on the punk ethos) - I reckon they played at least 12 songs in their allocated 30 minutes. Reasonably priced as well - 20 EUR for the vinyl and a tenner for the cassette. The Dry Cleaning merchandise was reasonably priced too, at least compared to what goes on in other gigs these days: the long sleeve shirt was 50 EUR.

For anyone heading to the BGE Theatre tonight for Tori Amos, you're in for a real treat.

An exquisite gig in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast last night 🎹

First time catching her live but a long time fan. Lots of Kate Bush vibes in her (still) powerful voice.

Had most of the stalls crowd down at the stage for the last few songs. Not sure how that will work with the BGET.

    1000015828.jpg

And god, I love this venue. First time there and can't believe that (maybe chatGPT is hallucinating) it has a bigger capacity than BGET. Feels much more intimate with perfect sight lines.

    1000015794.jpg

And with the run back to south west Donegal nearly an hour shorter than from Dublin, another factor to consider when booking like for like gigs 😎

    Anyway enjoy Tori tonight ✨

Was there much price difference between Dublin and Belfast?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 407 ✭✭Beagslife

Not that I recall. I paid £90 for my ticket, for front row of one of the lower sections/boxes to the right. Some tickets were a bit more expensive.

Not a cheap show by any stretch, but unfortunately the way things are going 😕

Agreed, should have mentioned them. Saw half their set and was really impressed. Bought their latest album at the merch stand after the show. It's really good.

Went to see KNEECAP in the Limelight in Belfast last night. It was their album launch party. First time seeing them and I was pleasantly surprised! They played the new album and threw in a couple of better known tunes before the end. Very brief. Onstage at 8:45 and finished by 9:30. That suited me fine.

    Joshua Idehen - Button Factory,

It's not a gig really, it's a revival style church meeting with class beats. Very positive, funny and uplifting.

I'm a sarky fcuk at the best of times but 3 really good gigs in a row now has me concerned that something awful is going to happen.

Up next Robert Finley (he's probably going to keel over and die on stage with my luck), Big Star Quintet and then quiet till de Cure.

Yeah, Joshua good for the soul. He had a very willing congregation in front of him last night. That's my wellbeing sorted for the week.

it was a great gig. He had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand.

I first heard of him, and this gig, through Boards. So thanks to whoever recommended.

John Mulaney at the Olympia. Best stand up show I e ever seen. His set lasted nearly 2 hours and was fantastic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭fluke

I too was at that. A great gig - I don't often go to comedy gigs, and was worried it might turn into one of the confessional type Netflix specials, but there was none of that. A long set and I think as it was the last show of the UK & Irish tour, it had a victory lap element to it.

his last olympia show and Netflix special was a confessional type show about his drug addiction, intervention and rehab.
