There was a time when riders would often be out of the saddle for 45 minutes, there was a time where I thought Alberto didn't have the ability to sit down. Froome did not have any souplesse, it was painful to watch, pedalling squares from the start.

Least graceful pro cyclist ever to swing a leg over a top tube? (Froomedog, not Bertie) He managed to make everything look worse - running up Mount Ventoux, his bizarre pedalling-while-crouching-on-the-top-tube descending, spinning 1 billion rpms up a mountain while staring at his Garmin… truly the worst of times.

    All in the past thankfully.

But don't rule out another Froome emerging at some point I guess. Please God not another series of fallow years however.

Speaking of the Skineos robots they have unveiled that they are now called

    Netcompany

Which has a blandness and LinkedIn feel about it that suits them perfectly.

Tour de Romandie kicks off this afternoon. Only Irish representative is Dillon Corkery

Interestingly, all the GC guys are out early as its forecast to rain. However Pog is wearing bib 1 as UAE won this last year with Almeida, so he has to go last.

Almeida out of the Giro because of illness. Even though it looked like a procession for Vingo even with the Porteguese it's a pity to see someone who might have competed with him drop out. Pellizzari probably the next best now.

Yeah, can’t see anyone touching Vingegaard but battle for the podium should be could. The likes of Arensman, Gee, O’Connor, Yates, Carapaz will all think they can get into top 3

Corkery in the break in Romandie. With a Cat 1 on the way, you couldn’t see it lasting

Just one more comment on this.

I'm in visiting my elderly mother, so Liveline is on! They are covering sepsis today, with a few eye opening stories.

Might not been what killed Munoz, but its something everyone should be aware especially people who race bikes

I had it twice in two years, last August I got it and bilateral pneumonia. Doctors told me they weren't sure I'd make it for the first three days.

I ended up back in hospital in late November and my cancer doctor ran tests, I have lymphona. She told me she believes my immune system was down for four years and that I'm lucky to be alive.

I've been put on a monthly treatment now and feel great.

If you pick up three doses in a short space of time you need to get a full workup done. I didn't do that and almost paid for it.

Carapaz is out now. Pretty disastrous season so far for EF with Carapaz, Healy and Powless all missing their target races so far. Archie Ryan hasn’t started his season. Sweeney announced this morning he’s had surgery.

Only two wins this year, albeit both at WT level. Rafferty is set for the Giro. You’d imagine they’ll all be let loose with a GC man to work for

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭Paddigol

It almost did for me as a young kid. Actually caught it in hospital after an operation. Got it again in my teens (a table tennis injury lol) but caught it early and didn't progress. Definitely not something to dilly dally with.

I wonder what EF think Rafferty can be. Would it worth them trying him for GC I wonder. Have we seen him try GC at all yet? Always seems to be working for someone else which is fair enough since it's early in his career but EF talked him up a lot when they signed him.

Jamie Meehan in the front group of 7 at Eschborn-Frankfurt, alongisde Wellens, Verstrynge, Rutsch etc. 60k and 2 climbs to go.

Looked like he wanted someone else to close the gap there and no one did

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,287 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Seixas confirmed for the Tour. Will add some interest anyway.

Ryan Mullen also confirmed for the Giro. It’ll be his 3rd giro and his 4th grand tour in total

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,122 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

We've obviously never seen him over three weeks but, mad as it sounds, podium has to be the target. I don't think anyone outside Pogi or Vingo have anything for him.

Overwhelming favourite for white I would imagine.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 27,054 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

It will be sold as podium, but I'd say Bastille Day, top 10 and white jersey is realistic.

I think Seixas is capable of challenging for second.

He's very young for the physical strain of a 3 week tour and the psychological stress that effects every rider which will be significantly amplified for him.

Lipowitz will surely be a good shout for third also. Looked strong in romandie

Bit late now, but the women are in the last k's of the queen stage of the Vuelta on the Angliru, been a great stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,287 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

Love those stages. One big massive mountain at the end and nothing else.

    Very surprising winner too

Another massive crash in the giro, race neutralised.

Yates badly cut up. Vine stretchered off in an ambulance

Edit: meant for the giro thread

Why do lads not wear mitts, is it a hard man thing or something?

It's not a hardman its to stop your hands freezing, once gloves get wet then your hands will freeze, so makes sense to remove them

I didn't think Jonas would want the Pink this early but nice to see him go for it
