the mention of Rush and Lusk in the title made me assume this was something it's not.

i just wish they'd fix the cycle path further south on the R132, between the coachman's roundabout and the main airport roundabout.

Affected by increased congestion as a result of the reduction

Cloghran to Airport roundabout area needs a massive upgrade from the poor road surface and road markings, it's a bottleneck for motor traffic and a death trap for cyclists and pedestrians, the Cloghran roundabout itself is at least 20 years out of date..

They need to completely redesign it for motor and cycle traffic.. just a pure disgrace..

I cycle this stretch of the R132 regularly. In practice it's not awful, hard shoulder most of the way and few dangerous junctions. If you're inexperienced or just lacking in confidence though, it's very unattractive, and you rarely see people commuting on it. Will be interesting to see how people take to the new scheme.

The biggest improvement here is for pedestrians, as paths are non-existent at the moment.

Where are people going to be walking to and from though? Would they not be mainly crossing the road rather than walking alongside?

Or taking the direct route through swords, which might be a more pleasant walk than walking beside a dual carriageway?

Even walking short distances. Those coming and going to GAA club, housing estate. Those getting off an inbound bus but going to Swords need to walk a short distance and cross road. Some might want or need to access the business park too.

i used to have to cycle this regularly to get to a job at business park at balheary. as someone previously said it's not the worst in it's current state but being exposed to fast traffic with no protection is probably putting people off cycling there.

From the DC at this exit to Lusk/Rush needs a completely new road, with bus lanes and cycling infra. Given how fast the area is growing the road is already way below the required capacity (and has been for some time, before the latest building boom). The road between Lusk and Rush where the train station is dangerous too.

I often see the assumption that people don't cycle these routes therefore they don't need cycle paths. The reality is, and this is true of the project in OP too, that people would be more likely to cycle these routes if they felt it was safe. I've been on the R132 on a bike, and while it was ok-ish, it wasn't during rush hour and not something I'd want to do on the regular, especially as a commute.

i'm a seasoned cyclist and i'd definitely avoid those roads during the day when i could, let alone at night.

station road and the R132 would be horrendous in the dark.

at least donabate (at some point) will have an option to avoid the R132 and R126 (the road past newbridge house main entrance) if you're a cyclist.

Not saying they dont exist but….

Is there that much commuting with a bike to the city going on from Lusk that demands the slowing down of bus services (a la these traffic lights)?

I just dont see the bang for buck here. As long as we also annoy car drivers, its ok to slow buses down too

There's very little commuting by bike from Lusk because it's too dangerous to do so. This section is not the section that can fix that though.

I’m not sure where the “slowing down buses” part comes from, looking at the plans it seems to include dedicated bus lanes!

Also apparently this is an intermediate plan, with more upgrades likely in future.

There is literally a 120 / 100 kmh motoroway running adjacent to this road called the M1 if someone wants to speed along and not encounter any lights. This road was the old main road to Belfast, not anymore.

It is great that the place is being upgraded to allow people safer use of this area. Swords always has this feel of one side being cut off from the other due this dual carriageway up through it. Also, remember this road will have the Metro running right along it, so in years to come, there will be significantly more cycle and foot traffic along this road.

I was out the Stamullen/Bettystown direction over the weekend and came across part of this road. I then saw a sign in Santry on Sunday night and thought I must have misread it. Had to look it up to make sure, and spotted that it goes from Dorset Street all the way to Newry, basically. Must be one of the longer regional roads in the country, surely? Well over 100km.

presumably it's just the new designation of what used to be called the N1.
