Spent a bit more time with Hitman 2 and i forgot about the satisfying progress from retrying levels, almost dark soulsesque. The free Bruce Lee event at the moment is a lot of fun. The live events are usually only for WoA owners but seems like it's free for anytime with H1 and H2 for a specific time.

Approaching the end of Pragmata, about halfway through what I assume is the last stage. Got the last main upgrade so have also 100% the earlier zones.

The game is largely unremarkable and unmemorable, but it's also a decent playthrough. Challenging without just throwing waves and waves of enemies at you. A few puzzles to mix things up. It's all pretty good and the hacking mechanic adds a unique hurdle to everything. It does everything really well, just nothing spectacular.

Some of the training missions (side thing for additional upgrade materials) are an absolute b*tch though.

Totally agree on the training missions, got first lot done fine but the ones from later in the game not even trying

Especially any where you have to use the carbine instead of the pistol. Holy hell that gun is awful.

The traversal ones are okay, but some of the later combat ones, I've just tried do whatever part of the challenge might give the upgrade units.

I have it ready for after Nioh 3. That and Cairn

By the time I finish it I'll be at about 15-16 hours I'd say, maybe 17-18 if I go for the platinum. I'd be fine with that in terms of value for money.

That said, it's probably easily a game which you could wait to go on sale and pick it up then for 40 or under. I like it a lot, but it's not something I'd say anyone needs to rush out and play if there's something else they'd rather play in the meantime (especially now as we inch closer to Saros' release, as it seems to be an absolute banger, and I mostly only bought Pragmata to tide me over until Saros).

I just remembered Forza Horizon 6 is coming to PS5 but then saw it's releasing 'shortly after launch'. I'll definitely be getting it but hope won't have to wait too long. I never played 5 as paying 70 for an older game didn't seem right so this week be my first Forza experience.

Loved FH4. FH5 is good but not quite hitting the spot the same. I still have Gamepass for a few more months so can give FH6 a blast on there. Overall though they're great games you can dive into for short sessions in between bigger games, simple blasts of arcade fun racing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,095 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

FH5 was fun. They no doubt created a great arcade racer. My problem with it is that it just throws cars at you. You've probably unlocked about 10 cars in the first hour. I felt there was no real feeling of progression. They give you a massive map full of races, but no real sense of working your way up. It's also heavily focused towards online, and even though you can play it totally solo, it's always reminding you. I got bored of it after a while.

Same thing happens with The Crew and modern NFS games. Gone are the days of progressing like Burnout, early NFS games, and other arcade racers. Hope 6 will be different but I doubt it, fans seems to love the current style. Will probably still get it (on PS5) because Japan, but I've no problem waiting. Far too much to play this year anyway!

Got a bit bored of FH5 as well after beating it. Never really went back. It was great and obviously way better than games like Crew Motorfest but expected a bit better.

Decided to wait to play Pragmata till after Saros.

Played through quite a bit of Immortality yesterday. Bought it on sale ages ago and never started it. Never played Her Story. Interesting ideas but its mechanics are wearing a bit thin after a few hours and I found myself skipping the odd scene to look for clues. Will finish it but dont think I'll be trying to get all the clips.

Tempted to get either Vampire Crawlers, Ball X Pit, Saint Slayer or Sektori to play over the next few days before Saros but still have Hades II to chip away at.

Got to Chronos for the first time but he kicked my arse.

Who needs Forza Horizon when Tokyo Xtreme Racer is on sale?

Haven’t actually played it but it looks like a proper old school arcade racer, and people seem to love it. Very tempted to pick it up with the discount as I’m on a bit of an arcade racer kick

Preview of the games coming this month, forgot about Mixtape and also Thick as Thieves looks like an interesting take on the usual PvP stuff we've been getting.

The levels are just too big now. It was much better in the earlier games in a smaller sandbox.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,000 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

I tried the new love event The Banker and i completed first time, much easier than the Bruce lee one but i didn't even get to kill the target as someone else did. The mission was pushing this and i got to do it through a card game, very James bond but i just want to garrote a fella every once in a while. These big levels are meant for replayability and some very cool unique opportunities but some seem impossible unless you follow the stands very carefully. Still enjoyable but a far cry from the original hitman trilogy. Think i need to play a more aggressive play style.

EA UFC 6 is out 19th June on consoles with PC release planned after that. I'm a big mma fan but UFC 4 was awful and I skipped 5 when i saw they just recycled a lot of it and added extra love service shite. I have very low expectations for this but hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Has anyone played Returnal? Have always been tempted but it seems hard to get a cheap physical copy of the game. Don’t mind a challenge and might give it a whirl before Saros!

It's excellent. Probably one of my favourite PS5 games.

It's on Plus if you have that or lots of Libraries around Ireland will let you borrow games so might be worth checking your local one.

    Absolutely awesome. PLAY it!

    Its on PS Plus Extra.

    32e in CEX.

Incredible game. Like most roguelikes, it'll feel like you're banging your head off a brick wall probably for the first several hours. But once it starts to click and you start hitting those sweet runs where everything falls into place, it's amazing, and every run starts to feel easier after that. Highly recommend.

And that intro is still one of the best uses of the DualSense. I've deleted my save just to replay it a few times. First game to really use the features. The rain then blew my mind for a while.

Was going to platinum Pragmata since I'd already gotten 100% in all areas anyway, so figured it'd probably just be the training missions, maybe a few weapon-specific challenges or something. Turns out you've to complete the game at least twice (one of which has to be on a new harder difficulty) and some new training-type missions also unlock which have to be completed.

So in other words, that's me done with Pragmata. Still stand by my original feelings; the game is great overall, but doesn't evolve a whole lot and kind of plays it's hands very early. It's a decent playthrough for 12-15 hours, but I'd say it's not something you'll remember or think about too often afterwards.

I loved it, but hated the way it locked me out of most of the game on account of being good enough 😞

Delighted to see they seem to have fixed that for Saros. I was all set to skip it until I watched a few seconds of a review. The second they said that I paused the video as I was a must buy.

Such a small thing to move a game from I'm not sure if I'd recommend it to everyone needs to play this 😃

What is it with film directors who hate games but make a movie based on the game that has nothing to do with the game.... COD director "hold my beer"...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,095 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Thought i posted similar here but it appears to have gone into the Deacon thread. Boards having issues... between that and the Far Cry director not interested in previous entry stories because everyone allegedly skips the cutscenes... who gives these dopes the rights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 37,848 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I mean, firstly, does he also not understand what a movie is? Sitting around for hours, watching a movie… I guess people should go outside and do something rather than watch anything he makes.

Secondly, it's the very nature of things in the film/TV industry at the moment. A few game-based films/shows have been successful recently (partially because they've been made by people who know, respect and love the source material), so now a lot of studios are likely looking at what big game franchises they can get the rights to and just make a movie/show on that franchise, hoping the strength of franchise itself will be enough to get people in the door. But then it gets to the point where the writers/directors are just making their own product tangentially related to the source material and slapping the franchise name on it.

In fairness, stories in the Far Cry and CoD games aren't so integral to the games that you can't play around with them or take elements of them and make something new which better suits the format of a film/show, but at the same time, if your core audience is Call of Duty players (*shudders*) and you've been hired to make a Call of Duty film, maybe just say you like Call of Duty and then shut the f*ck up?

Edit: Just copped that his comments were made around 13 years ago. Probably hasn't changed his opinion that much in that time, but willing to give him a little grace that his position may have softened over the years. Also, Boards sucks ass today.

LOL very amusing read about the MindsEye DLC which was marketed as revealing details about the absurd ‘sabotage’ claims upper management keeps making. Surprise surprise: it sounds like complete dogsh*t.

Ah I was hoping for something juicy. Ah well. I gave it a chance on release.

Played an hour of Vampire Crawlers with the free trial on PS Plus. Its great, very addictive and I am tempted to buy it but Saros is out tomorrow.

Finished Titanium Court with around half the in game ‘curses’ lifted. Could’ve done a few more, but the vibes around the court were getting rancid so I felt morally obliged to leave (rest assured, this feeling is very much reflected within the text of the game itself).

Anyway, I adored it. A delightfully complex and agile multi-hyphenate gameplay loop, but also some of the sharpest, funniest and most surprising presentation and writing I’ve encountered in a while. Plenty of laugh out loud stuff, but there are tonal shifts and meta commentary / satire that are handled extremely well too in ways that are best discovered for yourself. But yeah the recurring in-game gags and bits - from spectacular, absurdist visual motifs whenever you achieve anything of note to the musical interludes - are wonderful. The game has plenty of off ramps - and the writing urges you to take them - but lots of complex layers and challenges that can be tackled too.

It’s not a game that can be easily described, mainly because it goes a lot of places over the roughly 15 hours I spent with it. But try the demo if you’re intrigued. Personally it’s comfortably my favourite game of 2026 so far anyway.
