Looks like SF has decided to copy the Brits last night.SF is now supporting banning fox hunting.

Officially it is but it looks like the leadership prefer 'regulation'.

MEP Lynn Boylan told the party last night that Sinn Féin is the most popular party among young people, stating that it is impossible not to witness the cultural revival that is taking place among young people on this island.

“Part of that cultural revolution is saying no more to the pursuit of the past times of our colonisers,” she said, adding:

“It is time to listen to our young people. It is time to remain relevant and abandon our colonial past once and for all,” said Boylan.

However this wasn't echoed elsewhere in the party.

TD for Cavan–Monaghan Matt Carthy spoke against the motion supporting the ban, stating that it was not about personal views but that supporting the motion would undo all the hard work done on the issue by the party.

This sentiment was repeated by another contributor who said supporting regulation of the sport rather than a ban was “politically sensible”.

“We need to think really carefully today about how this can damage our party,” said this speaker.

The leadership had tabled a compromise motion but this was voted down.

“hunting in Ireland dates back thousands of years with mythology and examples such as Cu Chulainn the ‘Hound of Ulster’”.

In an attempt to please both sides of the debate, this motion sought to recognise that there is a “balance to be struck” and noted that a consultation with the party membership in 2022 found that approximately one third supported a ban with two thirds supporting some form of regulation.

This looks to me like an attempt to attract younger voters, whether it does only time will tell.

More like SF speaking out of both sides of their mouth as usual.

Might increase their appeal in urban areas, but I'd say that they will be hunted(pun intended) from the door in rural areas.

WOW!! Who went away and swallowed the Communist Manifesto phraseology book there?

So being able to get your own gaff and move out of your parents spare bedroom, getting a job that actually pays you to stay in Ireland rather than becoming export fodder ,being able to have a few quid to actually have some of the basic life necessities not to mind luxuries is totally irrevelant to young people but fox hunting is??? Boylan and Shin Fein has badly misread the room there,or is listening to its more militant loony tune ,techni coloured nose ringed multi genderd urban section.
