That last pass was miles forward no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Final pass for Lions try was miles forward just at halftime. Get it sorted TMO. Was happy with 14-0 at the break but 21-0 might be a bit much. Overall Connacht stood in there. Lineout good. scrum good, lots of possession. Just a few mistakes which have hurt

Terrible decision on the maul on their line and then on the forward pass. On their last try.

Have to say, Hugh Gavin having a very very tough day out there.

Any score for us in that last 3 minutes would have given us a chance.

Think they went too weak with the selection today. Maybe they hoped they could stay in touch and release the bench in the 2nd half. Instead they are 21-0 down and a long way back even for a bonus point.

Is there a TMO at all for this game. Last pass suspect again there

Finally got involved but really have no idea how a straight shoulder to the head is just a yellow

We're seeing the best and worst of Matthew Devine here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,878 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Disappointing, I think there was a point there for the taking. Would like to see how that maul at the end of the first half went to ground. 5 points is still a great return from the tour, Glasgow got 0 from the same two games.

Thought the sub props were good, and Cian Prendergast's engine is incredible. Devine mixed the sublime with the ridiculous, I'm going to miss him. At least he got a chance to share the pitch with his brother before leaving, has to be a great moment for them.

On to Munster. Hopefully the extra European game and the SA tour haven't taken too much out of us.

I think overall you would bite your hand off for 5 points coming down to South Africa.....

I think Connacht will end up on 54 points....its so hard to know if it will be enough for top 8 at the moment...

When you consider what Lions did to Glasgow you get an idea of what they are capable of. And yes I was hoping our replacements would come in early but I must give credit to that Connacht team in the first half. It could easily have been even stevens at half time other than a few mistakes. One thing that is learnt is any Connacht 23 ain't shabby these days. And that's what I take out of the tour

Seems like we need Ulster to either beat Munster or collapse completely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Realhorrorshow, you know Ulster will be trounced. I get the distinct impression that Ulster is depending on the challenge cup this year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

that said I believe Montpellier will win the challenge cup and Ulster has made the wrong choice.

Connacht will spank Edinburgh( who will be looking to the beach) in their last game...im fairly confident Connacht will pick up 5 pts vs Munster....

Ulster are treading water...and could be the ones to lose out altogether...

Hugh Gavin, like Brian Gleeson in Munster is finding out that what you can do in URC away in S.A is a different kind of game to U20’s, running into contact and getting turned over just before half time was a killer for any hope of a comeback once the bench was introduced. A good tour overall and fingers crossed now for remaining fixtures.

In fairness to Hugh he is just back from a long term injury so hopefully as he gets a bit more game time in the legs he can cut out the few poor decisions like he had today

Need Munster to not give up any bonus points now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

I can't see Ulster progressing past Exeter in the Challenge Cup and neither can I see them even getting a losing bonus point against Glasgow or Stormers which means Connacht just need to beat Munster or Edinburgh and happy times

wow, that was some guess. you got it on the button 33-21.

Ulster will probably win the URC now given your prediction track record.

Anyway rather than watch the Leinster Benneton snore fest time to switch channels and watch the Irish women take on France

Down to us and Ulster realistically at this point.

They've two hard home games left but you'd have to fancy them for one win if they can get a few back fit so think we still need two wins.

Would have snapped your hand off for this chance a few months back.

The league is crazy this year. If Leinster or the Lions got nothing from their last two games and we got two five pointers we would finish ahead of them.

We could finish fifth or not make it. If we don't it's just unlucky.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,942 ✭✭✭Redo91

If we win our last two games I think it might be enough so sneak in. I could see us overtaking Ulster and/Cardiff as they both have the top two left. Ulster are home for both and Cardiff have Glasgow away. I can see Lions not picking up any more points but with them 9 points ahead and far superior points difference I think we will need 2 BP wins to overtake them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,806 ✭✭✭ElisaAtWar

Its looking like 51 points needed for t8 so yep work to do. Points difference isn't great either. But if you look back to last year it's a significant improvement. And we were all despairing at that stage. So not bad progress for Lancaster's first year

Wonder what the median age of the 15 players that finished on Saturday?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,997 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I've no idea but a friend told me the average age of the backs that started against the Stormers was 23.5.

If you took out Heffernan and O'Connor the forwards wouldn't be much more than 25 in that game.

So I asked Gemini who would win the URC this year and it referred me to this EAW poster and suggested I ask them 😀
