Ordered Lawrence of Arabia on 4k from HMV on St Patrick's Day. It arrived this morning. Thought An Post only did Saturdays during the Christmas rush. Postage was Royal Mail on the UK side.

Arrived today. One I havent seen in well over 20 years. I have vivid memories of seeing trailers for it and then seeing the cassette in the video shop but my parents not letting me rent. Considering i was 8 or 9 they were probably right. This release also comes with an additional cut which is approx 30 minutes longer which I am looking forward to checking out.

For those who love the older Disney films.

CELEBRATING SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS OF DISNEY ANIMATION MAGIC

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Returns with a New 4K Restoration, Arriving on Digital and 4K Ultra HD™ Blu-ray May 5. Special One-Night Premiere at the TCM Classic Film Festival on May 1.

    BURBANK, CA (April 8, 2026)

In celebration of its 75th anniversary, Disney’s animated classic Alice in Wonderland returns in a stunning new 4K restoration, available on digital and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray May 5. The newly restored film will debut with a special one-night-only premiere at the TCM Film Festival on May 1, offering audiences an early look at the vibrant, meticulously remastered and restored presentation before it’s in-home release.

In celebration of its 75th anniversary, Alice in Wonderland has been meticulously restored and remastered in 4K Ultra HD by the Walt Disney Film Restoration team. Over nine months, artists completed a digital scan of the original nitrate Successive Exposure (SE) negatives, followed by extensive clean-up to address dust, warping, and age-related wear. The team also referenced original production artwork preserved by the Walt Disney Animation Research Library to ensure the restoration remained true to the filmmakers’ original intent, collaborating closely with Walt Disney Animation Studios veteran Michael Giaimo to review every shot and refine color and luminance.

“The original animation artists’ work on Alice in Wonderland is stunning, and we’re proud to present it with renewed clarity and vibrancy,” said Kevin Schaeffer, Director of Restoration & Library Management. “This milestone restoration brings new depth and dimension to the film’s imaginative world, offering a vibrant presentation for longtime fans and a new generation of audiences alike.”

Viewers eager to go further down the rabbit hole will find a robust collection of bonus features on the Blu-ray and Digital release, offering rare behind-the-scenes and archival material. Highlights include reference footage with commentary by Alice herself, Kathryn Beaumont, along with classic companion shorts such as Thru the Mirror featuring Mickey Mouse and Alice’s Wonderland from the original Alice Comedies, a selection of deleted scenes, and music videos including “Beware the Jabberwock” and “If You’ll Believe in Me.”

While the film may never answer the riddle “Why is a raven like a writing desk?”, this 75th anniversary edition invites audiences to rediscover its wit, artistry, and enduring charm. The 75th anniversary restoration of Alice in Wonderland presents itself as a very merry “unbirthday” gift for generations of audiences to come.

    Film Synopsis

Join Alice as she chases the White Rabbit into a topsy-turvy world that gets "curiouser and curiouser" as her fantastical adventures unfold. Meet the Mad Hatter, March Hare, Tweedledee & Tweedledum, the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts and more unforgettable characters, all set against a backdrop of awe-inspiring splendor. Some flashing lights sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.

I ordered Excalibur on 4K and they sent me the standard blu ray so now waiting again. Annoying. Have you watched it yet by any chance?

Yes, the salary is enormous, I understand that, but that doesn't affect my soul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,909 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

No not yet but any reviews I've seen are very positive about it.

I know what you mean I was about to pull the trigger on innerspace on their website it spotted at the last minute it was the Blu-ray version the 4K pre-order had sold out (I've ordered from HMV online).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

I was about to open it but noticed the usual 4K sticker wasn’t on it and checked to find it was the standard Blu Ray. Between posting it back to them and waiting for a replacement it’ll be next week at the earliest before I get to watch it. I guess I’ll be throwing on Heat again this weekend instead….

It would be good to see this movie getting a UK & Irish release as well.

Is there any listing for it on HMV or Amazon yet?

So instead of rewatching Heat I finally removed the plastic from my Collector's Edition of Basic Instinct on 4K last night and rewatched a movie I hadn’t seen since in full in one sitting since the original cinema release. I have dipped in and out of it over the years when it’s been on tv etc., and though I own Blu Ray and DVDs of this I never watched them.

It looks and sounds great. It includes a tonne of bonus material across the various discs (with some overlap across the various discs it has to be said), some postcards, a poster, and a booklet. From memory this was STG£50+ (might even have been £60+ on release last year and is completely sold out now.

You forget that in the 1990s 2+ hour movies were more the norm than unusual and considering most of what I’ve seen recently has been of the 90mins variety you do notice the difference in length (that’s what she said….). It was a great watch in that 90s sleazy, trashy way and I loved it! Will work my way through the extras at some stage.

One I recommend is Cinematographe's 4K release of At Close Range. I got it with my last Vinegar Syndrome order.

Underrated crime film that repays repeated viewing.

Radiance is an excellent label. Their Radical Japan set is really well done.

The Rockford Files has got a BD release in Germany. Expensive compared the US Mill Creek set from 2017. I didn’t buy that, still relying on the DVD sets from the 2000s.

Anyway did anybody get this German set yet? Curious to know about
    1/ Version of pilot
    2/ Title cards
    3/ Credits
    4/ Picture quality

Grindhouse are working on a super duper deluxe version of Cannibal Holocaust.

"Grindhouse Releasing’s Bob Murawski reveals on the latest episode of @iconsoffright that the upcoming 4K UHD release of Cannibal Holocaust will feature A VERSION of the film that has NEVER BEEN SEEN by the public before with 20 additional minutes of footage .

““Some reissues of some things like a big super deluxe version of CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST that’s going to be on par with what we did with THE BEYOND box, a six disc box set with a version of the movie no one’s ever seen before.”

    IOF: What’s that?

“A couple of versions, 2 versions of the movie nobody’s ever seen before. So I had access to all the original negative and including all the 16mm fake documentary footage. But all the original 16 millimeter footage is in its original aspect ratio of four by three.

So as an alternate version of the movie we’re intercutting between the two formats. I mean, it’s not going to be the only version of the movie.

Obviously the classic theatrical version is going to be on, but there’s going to be an option to watch it with all that footage and four by three where you see probably, you know, 35% more image area, top and bottom.
And it’s funny because when you see it in, in that aspect ratio, you can actually see that they probably framed it for that as well.

You know, like, like when Sam and I went back to Evil Dead and, and Sam said, you know, when I was shooting Evil Dead, I, I didn’t really want it to be 18185.
We framed everything for 16 millimeter 137.
And that’s why the new version of Evil Dead that was out when we went back to the negative, it was in in that square format.

So, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, following in the footsteps of Orson Welles and Sam Raimi, will now be intercutting the two formats. And we found a bunch of other footage, maybe like 20 minutes of so so or more footage of that’s never been seen before. I can’t tell you what it is, but yeah.”

We’ve got to save some surprises, I guess.

“Again, it’s going to be another big gigantic box set with a book and you know, I’ll, I’ll, you know, soundtrack and everything else. That’s done and will be coming out soon.“

I know it's an incredibly divisive piece of film making but personally I think its an outstanding work of art. Their pimped out set for The Beyond is glorious so this will be a day one purchase for me.

Oh Christ no. Don't do that. Most of the movie is the 16mm footage of Alan Yates and his arsehole documentary crew. I have no interest in watching the majority of 'Cannibal Holocaust' in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

Wow. Will probably spring for this. Last version I bought was the R1 Grindhouse 2xDVD set back in the mid 2000s. Wonder is there any unused cues on the soundtrack - would be good if that could be expanded.
