Considering whyte had the ball and mchugh went to shoulder him isn't a funny one at all

I'm not sure about that - the key to besting Clifford is cutting off / disrupting the supply into him and Donegal did that brilliantly yesterday

Donegal beaten in u-20 semi by Tyrone. Poor second half display in Convoy. Wasn't at the match but saw them against Fermanagh in first match. Wasn't that impressed tbh. Questions will be asked considering the amount of time put in preparation. One dimensional.

    Completely missed it.

Ok, opposition only scored 0-01 in 1st half but come on, Donegal only manage the same in the 2nd???

0-12 to 0-08 is low scoring - did conditions have any impact?

Dry day obviously but a breeze that wasn't that strong. Donegal won plenty of ball first half but hit slot of wides. Tyrone got the better of them in middle third second half. Not one ball kicked in to the forward line in the whole match other than efforts for points that fell into the keeper's hands.

Ponderous build up by both teams but more so by Donegal. Then the usual subbing the full forward line.

15 wides to 3 tells a story also.

Disappointing especially given Finbarr was playing.

    Anyway, on to Sunday.

Team for Sunday for what that is worth.

I didn't realise however that if we win tomorrow the semi final is next weekend. So maybe they will manage Finbarr's minutes given he played on Wednesday night (that suggests to me Jim must be pretty relaxed about tomorrow). Max Campbell played on Wednesday night too mind.

That's a very strong looking bench. Only Thompson to come back now.

I think we'll be comfortable enough but won't be killing ourselves. Bigger tests to come no matter what happens tomorrow.

I doubt if Down will kick many if any of their restarts to midfield with the height advantages we have there, so we would be pushing up on them to give to cut their options. A bit of danger in that in that they have a few clever lads on the line and they have a few speedy lads, but it would be better than letting them build from the back with short kick outs.

Probably a cagey enough start from us but when you look at the bench it looks more a case of us not starting with our strongest team as we have been pretty much doing so far, and sending the newer lads in when we are looking home and dry, too this time sending our bench in to finish it off.

Just my tuppence for what it`s worth. Hopefully we can win this and do it without any injuries with such a short time to the next game where we will need to be playing off as full a deck as possible.

Hearing Langan out for the year which is huge and disappointing news.

    Not starting today anyway.

I'm sure not too many surprised to see Finbarr for Max and Oisin for Shea.

Rubbish. A rabble at the end. Surely one players absence couldn't affect the team this amount. It will be a Lazarus like recovery to have any chance this year.

Hugely disappointing. Yes, we are still in the All Ireland, but the chance for a 3 in a row goes again and taking nothing away from the Down performance but they could be in the Tailteann Cup next week.

    A few things

Good to see Gallen back in that kind of form.

If Langan is gone for the season we need to get Thompson back as soon as possible as he offers a 2 point threat and can also be the left footed free taker we obviously missed today.

I'm afraid I don't see an All Ireland in this team now. The league is the league etc. This performance was as bad as our last championship match.

Maybe the recently bias and emotional of it but that may be one of the worst results I remember. Results like that could kind of happen under other managers but we have come to expect this simply doesn’t happen under McGuinness. They turn up for Championship football and win the games they are expected to win.

Long time to the All Ireland series but I would expect some kind of reaction but I don’t think they have it in them to win it.

Down played on the front foot today and Donegal had no answer. Nearly in every position they came out on top. McGuinness said his team were not prepared. Why not? Did he expect Down to come to letterkenny and lie down? Cleaned out in midfield and the back line put out the red carpet. Mentally team not there. Everyone wanting to take too much out of the ball.

Might be a blessing in disguise. Iron out the numerous problems and be fresher for the big stuff

The result yesterday was bad but this is even worse news.

Noticed how McGee was isolated without the other target for kick outs. Really hard to see them bounce back to such an extent that they can challange for an All Ireland with no Langan.

Just last week all sounded so promising with all bar Thompson seemingly back. The old saying is true….A week is a long time in sport!

Reports suggest an ankle injury for Langan which might not be as bad as other rumours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,660 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Down are heading to the Tailteann Cup and that looks about right.

An awful performance and result last week.

    Playing Kerry in Kerry.

It could be a very short year.

Gauranteed another game, 8 losing team in rd 1 drawn against each other

Lose to Kerry after the shambles against Down, as much as a pessimistic I am when it comes to our county team, I would not hold out much hope for the rest of the year.

If we are going to win this outright then we need to beat Kerry.

Kerry in Kerry? If so it will be a long drive back.

The old format with three out of four progressing really wasn`t fit for purpose, but the new one looks more like further attempts to kill off any reward for winning your provincial title.
