I'm absolutely certain that pretty much everyone on this thread understands how 'sport' works so you might want to lessen your preaching.

Performances and results have been dire this year. I had zero expectations of winning the league this year.

I'm sure Slot likes you as well.

Everyone does know that if we secure champions league there is no chance they are getting rid of Slot, they will say well done on getting champions league in a tough season, lots of injuries, Jota situation, players massively losing form (Salah/McAllister). Slot ball again next year, A bit more grit and we would be in the title fight as someone pointed out below, the points we lost late in games have killed our season.

This is how standards collapse imo.

Robertson being one of our best players means excellent defending, distribution, intelligent runs up the flank and asissts.

Now all you have to do is show a bit of fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭Libertine07

That's nonsense, he has shown a lot more than fight.

While there are many different reasons to have gripes with Slot, letting Tyler Morton leave is not one of them.

It was a deal that suited all 3 parties - selling club, player & buying club.

You can defend Robbo without having a go at Kerkez.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭Tommysocks11

Yes I understand the reasons but if maybe he was promised more starts and a chance to stake a claim for a starting spot he might have stayed, meanwhile gravenberch and macallister continue to stink the place out with their efforts and isak dosent look interested

Massive game on Saturday v palace, if we can win that then I think fifth is ours but lose and its squeaky bum time, its amazing Chelsea have lost last 4 without scoring so I dont think their manager will be there much longer

I swear no one watched him before he came to Liverpool. He's an elite finisher, you need to pass the ball to him. I lost count how many times he was asking for the ball quickly yesterday and was just ignored. If he was missing sitters you could criticize but he isn't being given anything to finish.

Absolutely but I'm also able to point out the developing narrative that everything is ok at LB.

That we spent 40m on a player to put in a shift whereas we actually thought we were getting something of a technician, firing up and down the left wing and producing asissts.

Anyway, picking on Robertson seems crazy when players who play alot more have been struggling all seaso

IIRC I read in the summer that Slot/Hughes had a decision with 3 young central midfielders on who to let go.

All 3 were rated internally as being good enough for backup for the season but they didn't want to keep all 3 as they wouldn't all play anyway

So the decision was keep one, loan one, sell one

In the end it was another long term injury that gets overlooked by other unlucky events this season but they decided to:

    Sell Morton (best offer)

Loan McConnell (Heitinga could take him to Ajax with Jaros for minutes at a decent level with a CL club)

Keep Bajçetic - had a really good loan last season by all accounts and the most first team minutes for Liverpool of the 3 and would be content to be backup

In the end Bajçetic gets injured really early on and can no longer rely on him and Heitinga gets sacked and McConnell barely plays on loan.

It's another example where you can see the thinking behind it but with hindsight it's just unlucky as you would choose now to go back and let Bajçetic go and keep Morton. Endō was always going to be kept as CB cover but if Guéhi had signed you could have let him go too and kept Morton and McConnell

In any case, CM has to be a priority next window

Anyone at Spurs or wolves/west ham worth saving from relegation…Simons or Van de Ven…anyone at either of the other two in midfield that could be a 6…or a rightback…

Archie Gray or Kudus would be fine squad options. Porro too and maybe Sarr.

Age profile is good for all of them.

But I also think we can find better than all of them in the market. Wouldn't go near Xavi Simons and van de Ven is likely not worth his wage level

I'd take Archie Grey from Spurs. We were interested in VDV before but he's been poor this year and picks up a lot of injuries.

On a pure business level it would be easy to say Slots won the league, got to the latter stages of the CL twice and now looks like securing CL football next season. It would be easy to let his contract play out.

We don’t need to rehash the 50 alternative reasons why that would be terrible.

Personally looking at Slot now versus 7 to 8 games ago, he looks a lot more relaxed. It to me looks like it’s been worked out behind the scenes and his deal is done he walks away at the end of the season head held high.

This week alone he gives the team days off surely with a 130 million quid striker who is not integrated into the team there’s something he could be doing on the training pitch to prep for a pretty important derby. Even more so considering Ekitike’s injury.

I think he’s realised now the jobs beyond him in terms of how much you have to give of yourself in that role. And for the club missing out on the few alternative managers that will be available in the summer is really too big of a risk.

Yeah definitive claims one way or the other are a bit much at this stage. It honestly could go either way and the club will keep their cards close to their chest.

Would love to get Archie Gray, can cover a number of positions, something we lack in the current squad

Pedro Porro would be interesting. 4 year deal on reasonable wages?

    Sounds like Konate is staying

"We are close to an agreement. For sure there is a big chance I’m here next season."

"There are many things people have said but for a long time we have spoken with the club and we are close to an agreement. I think everyone wished for that for as long as possible but we are in a good way. "

"I have a special relationship not only with the fans, but with every single person who works at the club. This club means so much to me.”

Joyce and Pearce reporting on it as well.

I think we needed to keep him because VVD doesn't have long left and we need some stability in the CB position over the next few years as Leoni and Jaquet (+1 more) build up to being regulars.

To many other areas need work this summer with a DM, wingers and RB/LB possibly.

    Good news that.

I've not been confident in Ibou this season but there's enough turnover as is, the more players we can retain the better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 471 ✭✭Libertine07

Delighted with the Konate news, I think it's obvious why he was struggling earlier in the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭brevity

I think they might do this too. They have evidence that Slot can do good things with a good squad and while this season has been a disaster, there are some real reasons for this. The amount of individual errors that were directly involved in us losing points and games felt unfortunate and baffling at times.

On the other hand, Alonso could come in and galvanise the supporters who are definitely fractured at this point. I think FSG love the idea of having someone at the helm that will buy them time Slot had this in his first season, Klopp had this for years and Alonso will have a season or two probably.

If West Ham went down i would like us to enquire about Matheus Fernandes

The fact he never moved over full-time and goes back to his family in the Netherlands nearly every week has to be an issue

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 36,746 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Has he actually been going back nearly every week? I've only seen it reported that he goes back on international breaks, and the family (or some of them) flies to Liverpool for a couple days every 2 weeks.

Here's a quote from him from earlier this season; "Anyone who is married and has a good marriage, I think I do, would like to see the children and the wife a bit more. My wife comes over for a couple of days every two weeks, the children unfortunately even less."

Heard it from a taxi driver over there last week so massive pinch of salt but he was suggesting he goes back when there's no midweek game
