Honestly not sure Nash is any better than what we already have.

Hansen, Bolton, Treacy, Mullins. West and Jennings can fill in on the wing. Young Ryan was excellent in the U20 6 Nations and will be looking for more game time next season.

Nash is a solid winger but not a glaring need.

How much of it is Lancaster getting the best out of them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,191 ✭✭✭typhoony

Agreed 2 players I've been critical of in the past had big performances. Shout out again to the front row with both props putting themselves about in the loose as well. Icing on the cake now would be a couple of points against the Lions then it's all roads lead to the Dexcom for a huge provincial clash with our neighbours

I hate giving any coach too much credit but it would appear there is a Lancaster factor in our transformation

Absolutely. Gilbert is one new signing who comes to mind but most of the squad are the same as last year, iirc, except the young lads who have really stepped up or are getting great coaching.

Also need to remember that Hansen has been out for ages, Bundee wasn't playing, neither was Beelham. Three internationals out and still a 5-0 win away to the stormers. Massive victory. Well done lads

Happy to see the Women's International was a great success with just over 3/4 capacity (9,206 of a 12,000 capacity stadium) Let's hope more internationals, of both genders, come Galway's way in the future.

    This too shall pass.

Team selection for next week gets a little difficult given injuries and the shallow depth that we brought out.

Forde looked like a possible broken arm. Any chance that they fly Bundee out?

Jansen might be okay for next week.

The impact of Gilberts signing cannot be underestimated. All those last minute wins would be valiant losses without his kicking.

When we are under pressure defensively he is the one that keeps us in touch. That means we are in with a good chance when the fitness and muscle memory kicks in for the last 15 mins.

One consequence of our win that I hadn't considered is the pressure it puts on Stormers, which could be bad news for Ulster. Their run in is Munster away, then Stormers and Glasgow at home. Munster are in a dogfight for top 8 and the other two are in a battle for top 2 and possible home semifinal and final. They've gone from looking nailed on for a home playoff game to a scramble for top 8!

I do like Gilbert and both he or Naughton are significantly above average place kickers. Now I always provide a kick in the tail in my comments and this is it. Gilbert really has to work on his fielding of high kicks. I don't believe he fielded one of competed for high kicks yesterday.

Another thing of concern is that Naughtons touch finders are average at best. His kicking style, which is a very deliberate straight kicking style, could use a bit of work. Maybe a bit of GAA style curving might help. Until then maybe Gilbert should take over these duties.

This in no way is to say Naughton is not my Nr1 pick at 10. You just use your strengths as best you can and I think Gilbert could do better

I think Naughton is intent on keeping the shirt and being safe instead of making mistakes. I believe if he gets settled in the shirt he'll be willing to push those kicks down the field a bit.

I think Frawley will be aserious addition next year. We will have 2 starting teams capable of competing at champions cup level.

Personally I would be happy with 9th or 6th.

I don't really want to be going in as bottom seed in the champions cup. However, at the moment, 5th or 6th is as likely as 7th or 8th.

Do runners up get a second seed?

Only the respective domestic champions and the European champions are seeded. For the other 20 teams, it doesn't matter if you finish 2nd or 8th in your league, you go into the same pot.

Soooo everyone is a bottom seed 🤣🤣

Trevor Woodman appointed as scrum coach from next season replacing Tucker

Sounds like a really good appointment. Doesnt say for how long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 864 ✭✭✭ShineyShiney

Lancaster could add Elton John as his forwards coach I would be fine with it.

Looks like a good appointment. Cullie has done a fine job for us so big shoes to fill.

Although Connacht played very well and it was an amazing result, they also had slices of luck. Bounce of the ball leading to Ben Murphy's try and interceptions. Ref could have given more scrum penalties against them. Having said that, you create your own luck by being in the right place at the right time

Ahhh get back in your box and let us enjoy a great result!!! Coming in here with your facts and stuff :)

I am a great admirer of Connacht under Lancaster, he did a great job at Leinster. I think part of the reason he did well at Leinster is that he left Leo Cullen deal with selection and dealing with the media, he just got on with coaching. He struggled with England and Racing because he was trying to do 2 jobs. I think it would help him in Connacht if there was someone else to assist with media duties

realhorrorshow who are we looking at in terms of folks out of contract. Mid next week we should know who is leaving Connacht as Munster is the last home game and it is the norm to turn up and applaud these guys. We know Jack is retiring, will Denis do also. And what's the situation with Oisin Dowling and David Hawkshaw. And who else. I know SHL hasn't signed but I really hope he does by next week. He is an integral player and his constant selection I hope is proof to him

Now I did say that post 2027 Lancaster will take over the healm as Irish coach and finally we can rest the likes of Furlong, Kelleher, Porter, Ryan, Conan, Henshaw, Lowe and many others. A new generation and not before time. But let us suffer through Andy Farrell first. And really can we get rid of David Humphreys please. And also can we get rid of the central contract system. It's an abomination on any fair play system for players

Ireland has gone triple crown, grand slam, championship, triple crown, triple crown in the last five years. There has been no suffering, just consistent success on an unprecedented level.
