We have 3 Lidl Plus accounts in the house and usually every Thursday the coupons are somewhat tailored to what we have bought or what they think we might buy.

This week, coupons on all accounts are the exact same.

    Anyone else see this?

Lidl was unable to get a standard off-sales licence for its shop in Dundonald, east Belfast. Instead it is building a pub. ..expected to open this summer and will serve "selected lines" from Lidl's beer, wine and spirit range, with a focus on promoting local suppliers.

Does the newly opened Lidl Ballybough, Dublin, have €x off €y coupons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,872 ✭✭✭caviardreams

For the first time my "just for you" single use coupons are now only for 10% off after being for 20%. Anyone else find this this week?

10% off one item for a euro or whatever is really not worth the hassle of getting your phone out! You can't even buy 2 or 3!

And the general offers are for the same thing every week, more or less - I've given up on the app at this stage, I just keep an eye out for red stickers on the shelves when I'm shopping, and activate all the "just for you" offers in case I happen to buy any of them - but I'm no longer basing my shopping on the offers in the app.
And going to Aldi and Dunnes, because a lot of the food is nicer there - I just wish they'd open an Aldi closer to me!

Lidl rolling out its mobile phone plans across Europe before year end https://retail-systems.com/rs/Lidl_Plans_Low_Cost_Mobile_Expansion_Across_Up_To_30_Markets.php

With GoMo and 48 mobile plans are actually pretty cheap here. Obviously more competition is good but I imagine it will be similar to what we already have.

If I'm reading it right, which I'm probably not, the nine cent off is quite handy.

If you shop in Lidl Sallins or Newbridge suggest that you change your local shop to Naas.

Naas is closing tomorrow (19th April) for 8 months.

To encourage Naas shoppers there's a €10 off €50 voucher in app for next 5 weeks for Sallins or Newbridge.

Eight months! Are they razing the store, and hiring BAM to build?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,841 ✭✭✭lucalux

just had a google and Lidl Longford was closed Jan 2024 for renovations and reopened Aug 2024 so 8 months as well

Huge job done on it, completely knocked and rebuilt and carpark totally transformed and landscaped

I've found that some of them have gone from 20% to 10%, like for the white floury baps. That was the only one out of the lot this week that I buy.

The others are garbage, like a discount on instant coffee. I don't drink tea or coffee, never have. What use is that to me?

And my scratch and "win" is a 20% discount of sugary crap sweets. Again, useless. So often it's a discount on junk food.

Definitely a noticeable drop in discounts this week alright, 10% is almost just paying lip service to the app users. Next cycle from Thursday, the 1kg of chicken breast fillets were usually €7.49 on offer but are going to be €8.99 this time.

Ye, it's a €3.8 million full demolition and rebuild job, not something they can just throw up over a long weekend.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Is there enough spending money in Longford to get a return on the investment? 😯

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,584 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

they did the same in Greystones, razed it to the ground. New one isn't massively bigger inside, but better laid out, and I believe they have a lot more warehouse space as well.

Yes, and this is why their prices are now so very similar to the other big supermarkets.

There has to be a gap in the market at this stage, but I'm probably whistling beyond the graveyard at this point.

They must be doing OK down there, after rebuilding the Longford store they then went onto open a brand new one in nearby Ballymahon recently.

Well its a fairly well trodden path. You disrupt/break into a market with super low prices, in order to gain market share (you might even drive some less effecient competitors out of business), then once you have sufficient market share... you can up your prices and watch the cashola €€€ roll in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 951 ✭✭✭EarWig

Yes, all that, but also the gap is for basic shops with limited range.

I am officially giving up on that app now

TBF its to encourage you to start buying something you never buy so you spend more money with them! Not so you actually save money :)

Well, of late the"just for you" coupons have all been for stuff I've recently bought (to the point where I was wishing they'd mix it up a bit), but offering me 50% off something I've never ever bought is optimistic in the extreme!
