Great, thanks - sounds like everything I’ve prepared for so far re the presentation anyway. Any general advice for the interview questions after? I feel like they’ll be quite challenging - I’ve reviewed the capability framework well and prepared some examples of my past experience and skills that fit

Would anyone happen to know what number they're up to now? I placed 118.

60 as of 24/02. I'm around the same as yourself, so fingers are crossed, all signs point to at least getting an interview anyways.

I’ve found out that I have been successful in passing the interview stage, and have been given an order of merit number - does anyone have any idea how quickly they will move in appointing positions? Or how many positions they expect to fill from this year’s competition?

Congrats! I'm not sure how long it takes typically but I can say I was in batch one and top 3 OOM and it was only around 2 weeks from finding out OOM to starting to get emails asking for documents for clearance.

Hey folks. Would anyone know how far they are with job placements, once you’ve passed your interview? It seems to be going slowly. Anyone else feel the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3 88todfa

Apparently they are now at 100 on the order of merit. Seems like it is moving faster than usual?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 notmaudgonne

Thanks! That’s probably the number of people called to interview though, right? I’m wondering how many have been issued a role so far. That part seems to be running slowly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭AdmiralHip

Yes that is how many have been called to interview, not those who have been placed. I don't think I've heard anything about placement yet myself, I think vetting etc takes some time.

I'm in the top 10 in OOM, existing civil servant and I'm still in clearance. I sent in all my paperwork (which is all very normal nothing unusual) back in the first week of March. So don't expect it to move quickly when you do get placed.

Thanks for that feedback! I’ve been placed and not far from you. Wow - I feel like that’s really slow, considering the numbers being interviewed

This is a little comforting. I got my request for the online clearance forms today but I'm starting a different placement next week - would have hated handing in notice on day three, so a reasonable pace suits me!

I'm closer to 20 OOM, for anyone keeping track.

Does anyone know if they have started the clearance process for batch 2 yet? I’m in the mid-teens in batch 2, curious to know how fast things are moving.

Just got an email asking to submit ID ahead of my interview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭AdmiralHip

Got the subsequent emails with the info. Nervous now.

One thing on the presentation: does it have to be focussed on my area of study? Or can it be on anything? I fear my area doesn’t have a lot of ongoing policy issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 Danger Burger

Mine had little or nothing to do with my previous work/study areas, but I did find it helpful to include why I would be interested or my skills/competencies would be relevant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭AdmiralHip

How in depth did you go in your presentation? I am conscious of the fact that I only have a week to do this. They say it should only take 4-5 hours of prep but knowing myself, I feel like I'll take way longer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26 Danger Burger

I think the most helpful thing for me to keep in mind was that it was going to be a very strict 8 minute presentation (double check that!), so there's only so mcuh depth you can go into there. But yeah, it took me much longer to prepare as well - I probably spent 4-5 hours trying to pick a topic!

I can't stress enough how I wasn't really sure what I was doing, but I tried to refer back to the government documents they included in the instructions and some related statistics/studies I pulled up on Google. Less depth on what the issue is and more on it being identified as an issue, and then whatever approach I was looking at after that.

Anybody know what number they are up to for interviews? I'm in the 140s and haven't been called yet. Looking at booking a holiday soon so would love to get an interview out of the way before going. Cheers.

Oh wow, I didn't know they were so far along! Thanks for the heads up and good luck with the interview. A couple of other questions if you don't mind answering: have they told you what the interview will entail yet (isn't there a presentation involved? I'm dreading that!), and is it online or in person?

    Cheers.

I interviewed back in February so, can give a little insight into how the interview is structured! It starts off with introductions & opening questions, you’ll then do your 8-minute presentation (it was an open brief but, they did encourage you to do it on a topic you’d be comfortable with or one that would align with your area of study). They’ll they go into a Q&A session; I found the questions weren’t very specific to my topic, they were very general. Once the presentation is done you’ll go through each capability starting with ‘Building Future Readiness,’ and so on. Mine was about 60-75 minutes - plus it’s online!

If you message them via your publicjobs account they will tell you where they are on the OOM so far. They are pretty responsive, they got back to me in a few minutes. Am in mid 200s myself, so wondering if/when I'd get called.

Cool. Thanks for that. How long after did they give you the result of your interview or are you still waiting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,316 ✭✭✭artvanderlay

Good stuff. I'll do that. Cheers

Edit: just got the call for interview today!

you'll get the full brief, but it's a presentation and interview. And they're all done online.

    For the presentations:

    1. How much text is needed on the slides?
    2. How much do we need to link back to the capability framework within the presentation?
    3. Can we rely on notes for the presentation itself?
    4. How much time has everyone spent researching/prepping? The prep says 4-5 hours but I have some friends who years ago spent more like triple that preparing. I've spent a fair bit of time as is just reading through documentation.

Just wondering has anyone from batch 1 been placed yet?

Can anyone speak to the above? And in addition, we just need to send our slides right? Not our presentation notes?
