I think the fact he participated in a deal situation and agreed on it and then pulled the plug is not very honourable.

If he had disagreed with the deal then he would have plenty of justification of his resignation.

Im not anti MHR nor am I in anyway suggesting any independent should stay in government if they are not happy.

The manner of the resignation in the above circumstances amazed me. When your a minister your are for all of the country not just Kerry.

In fairness the fuel situation is changing daily. I'm sure it will be reviewed in July and extended if required.

Trump could do anything between now and then so at least there are some measures in place in the short term to cushion the blow.

I keep saying the same thing in my circles. Accountability is dead as a result.

Have you had the pleasure of sampling the "free school meals" their not ediable, 2 kids here refuse to touch them, and their sent home in the school bags to go in the bin.

For context the german shepard wont even eat them, when you give a dog "chicken nuggets" and it sniffs them and walks away its a good barometer of the quality if the meat

I think there is a spill over from social media in society. We have actors like musk etc that are actively interfering with what society sees in order to steer them against established norms.

Social media itself thrives on adversarial interactions with posts having the most controversial interactions being promoted above the more factual posts.

All these things drive a feeling of discontent in society that is manipulated as needed.

Living in Western Europe at the moment is the pinnacle of human evolution, never before in the history of humanity has there been a better place or time to live. But we have people who have been conned into thinking it’s an awful existence 🤷🏻

I went through athy town yesterday, used to work their as a teenager in the uncles pub, would of been 20 years ago, i was lost for words at the demise of the town

If you took down the road signs and replaced them with russian ones, it would be more fitting for the state of the town, anyone in that area know if our minister for ag still uses that dilapitated office, some eyesore and shows the standards of whats at the top table in goverment

some people are conned into thinking it’s an awful existence and other people are conned into thinking it’s the pinnacle of human evolution, both are equally wrong.

Have said this before your kids might be very well looked after but if the school meals mean that one child in each class goes home with food in their belly that they otherwise wouldnt have had I think it's a winner. Plenty of kids go to school hungry each day unfortunately

Alan Dukes bought me a pint one evening in Athy, I think he was a regular in the pub I was in , We had a brief friendly chat and I offered to buy to a drink before I left, no way would he allow it.

    Agree with this…

On the school dinners in our school - 2 kids here eat it most of the time, which I would say is about the same as when we sent in their lunch with them.

For the food that's not eaten, I often eat it for my lunch the next day. 😊 Its mostly ok, bland which I would expect as its for kids, but edible…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,674 ✭✭✭Jb1989

So you'll eat it but another posters dog won't eat it, why the difference, is it different providers for your 2 schools?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,675 ✭✭✭jaymla627

I fully appreciate that, but we have told the teachers please stop our kids order and they wont to keep the budget up, id much rather see better quality meals targetted to whatever % of kids do avial of them within a school, rather than lower quality mass produced stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,850 ✭✭✭tractorporn

Pretty much, there's a couple of different suppliers around the country and the meals can vary vastly between suppliers. My lad refuses to eat any of the potato products from the school, says there's a plastic taste to them, eats plenty of spuds at home.

By pretty much any metric of modern society it’s the best place and the best time to live. These are tangible measured metrics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 20,064 ✭✭✭✭_Brian

The big advantage is the kids who don’t get spuds or pretty much anything at home. Apparently there’s plenty of kids and this is the only hot meal they get.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭lmk123

I’m not going to get into a back and forward with you but I’ll give 2 metrics and leave it at that, housing / Homeless, health services waiting lists etc. if you’re caught up in either of those you won’t think we are at the pinnacle of evolution

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Kevhog1988

They are all tendered seperately so theres a massive difference in the quality from school to school. The local school changed provider during the last tender and i understand the quality nosedived

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭Kevhog1988

Example of a tender for it on etenders just now

    I’ll be shot for this.
The majority of homeless have ended up that way because they and their parents failed themselves, since the 1980’s there have been ample systems in place for families to better themselves. They are “house less”, rather than homeless, the state provides beds for them, as it should.

As for the health system it’s not perfect but it’s good. My personal experience has always been good. I’ll give you my lived example.
my mum got sick during Covid.
went to her GP (for free) he saw how serious it was.
She was hospitalised free the next day and had a host of investigations within 3 days she had a full but terrible diagnosis. She had chemo within a week, but wasn’t able to continue it.
We brought her home and were supplied with absolutely everything we needed for free. Everything, no word that we could have afforded to pay for it for our mum, no it was all free. Electric beds, electric chairs, wheelchairs hoists, supplies. There were six of us family caring for her round the clock, but still we were given carers twice a day 7 days a week to support her.

There are “some” failures in the health system but overall it’s an excellent system. Having said that I wouldn’t be without private healthcare.

That's the case with most rural towns and villages pubs are finished and that was the lifeblood of these places.ireland is fine for people set up with cushy jobs and big pensions.i see a video on tiktok last night from Sydney supporting the protests a big crowd .and all we here is a shortage of nurses and skilled workers no wonder how many thousand in Australia.

There's a huge variety in the quality of school meals, the school I'm involved in began getting them this year, four companies sent samples in and two were very poor, one small supplier was good and the quality of the food is consistent, the principle reckons it's better than the lunch he brings but not a patch on what a lot of the kids bring for lunch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,662 ✭✭✭tabby aspreme

Athy is looking it's best at the moment 😁 with all the blue and white flags flying for the Leinster rugby town's cup final this Sunday, hopefully they will get the two in a row, the town does look delapidated part of the reason is a lot of the property is owned by one family who don't want other businesses competing with them, the minister is still using that office as far as I know though I doubt you'll see the black Audi parked outside it too often, Mark Wall and Sean o Fearghail are also local to Athy

Councils are pumping massive money into towns across Cavan and honestly its making a short term difference, but I’m not sure the towns are sustainable with the spending habits of society online.

The average homeless person is probably either a drug addict or an alcoholic, hereditary diseases. The system can only help you if you are capable of accepting and using that help. When you factor in the probable mental health issues this is not so straight forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,294 ✭✭✭endainoz

I think it might be a bit harsh on the homeless Brian, no doubt you're correct about some but many these days are becoming homeless after eviction because the rent get too high. The other points I'll fully agree with though.

People seem to have a longing for the "good old days" that they seem to have rose tinted glasses for. The "good old days" were anything but for many.

Works about 10 euro per student per day?

Prepare, taking into account various dietary and allergy requirements, deliver and serve. There wouldn’t be much in it.

@_Brian I more or less agree with you on the health service in this country, once you get in on the system you generally get what you need provided by excellent highly trained professionals. Does the system sometimes fall down yes it does and it can be terrible for the people affected when it does but 95% of the time it works well.

The problem is often around A&E, but these are a combination of thing, people there who don't need to be there & people with drug & alcohol problems.

I do think government need to better police the money they put into drug prevention & detection programmes as the country is a wash with illegal drugs & i do fear for the future of our children with how easy it is available.

Harsh maybe, ok. but I’m just going on people I know and was at school with who are second and probably third generation professionally unemployed. See them on local groups saying the gubberment have let them down.
