lack of seating is dreadful to be fair , i am sure there are worse though , cork has a great stadium but it would taky you a couple of years to get out of the place afterwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,700 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

Never have much of an issue getting out lately. Road is awful alright from Cork to Limerick but nothing Cork gaa can do about that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,052 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

I think that is half the problem the towns up the road, I went by the jack lynch tunnel one time and barely made the start of the game once a few years back,

Maybe it's just me using the wrong roads , everyone gives out about Galway, luckily I know Galway much better than cork and never had any problems getting out of you know the side roads and that , I probably just don't know cork city well enough

It kills me to think that it was refurbished about 10 years ago and you'd barely know the difference. There was a missed opportunity to use the river side to construct a stand like, for example, the fine one in Wexford Park and, even though I know it's tight on the Causeway side, the old stand could have been extended out to the sides.

i dont think it was a missed opportunity , i think it was a stunt , the likes of niall romer are right to be asking the questions as to what the hell was going on at the time ,

a few people were short a few bob at the time , by getting a grant to build new dressing rooms and a new roof allowed for one or two people to clear their finances elsewhere

i know of a blocklayer that put in a price to build the new building beside the stand , he put in a fair price as he saw it to the board , a few days later he got a phone call back from the sectuary at the time to put in a proper bid in so we could all get somthing out of it (x3 times the price)

anyone that called it out at the time was famously branded as a keyboard warrior if you remember

I would trust brian lohan as much as i could throw him in believing this line up for sunday , if there is going to be one change it probably will be Shane o'donnell for Sean Rynne with Mark Rodgers moving to 11 , tony kelly has been under the weather over the last few weeks and given the nature of the illness that put him out of the game against waterford last year, should it flare up again he could be a doubt , thankfully what i am hearing is that all is good in that department

Very hard to get anything out of the panel though in terms of injuries and the like , the iron curtain in their heyday would be put in their place such is the secrecy sounding the clare panel its very hard to know what to believe

There will be one Dunford lining out at the weekend from the Colligan but he will be waring a clare jersey, Colin's cousin Senan lines out at number 26 for clare , his father moved up from the Deise nearly 20 years ago and is a top environmentalist in the Burren region

A tough one awaits on sunday, it will be won by which full forward line can do the most damage

Unlikely Rodgers's is starting he hasn't recovered from Dublin game , SOD starting alright .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Yeah that team line up doesn’t tell us much. But that said, could there really be 5/6 changes ahead of throw in ? (instead of the usual 1 or 2)

    So many questions

does Rory Hayes really start ahead of Leen ?

will O’Farrell really start at 6?

are Rodgers, SOD and TK fit to play?

Will Malone really stay at wing back

Sean Rynne is a surprise selection, will he really start ?

Anyways, not long now until all is revealed

Leen has been struggling so I don't think it's that much of a surprise he is not starting, Rory Hayes going well enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

I thought he struggled a bit in the league final, some poor distribution and of course the black card/penalty.

Have a spare ticket for tomorrow if anyone is interested thanks

it seems kelly and rodgers are out for sure , two huge losses hopefully only wild rumours , o farrell and malone both played them positions in the league final so i dont see any change there , rynne was thrown in for the game against tipperary last year and did well ,

It's up there with the worst.

Ballinasloe not great either or athenry.

Carlow but not great if it's a big crowd. It's not able to host a big crowd for toilet facilities.

    What a game!

Great to get over the line, and some strong performances from younger lads like Rynne, Stritch and O'Farrell

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,008 ✭✭✭French Toast

Should've been home and hosed at 8-9 points clear. A better team would’ve turned us over there around the 60 min mark. That said, a win’s a win, very important positive start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,052 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

mixed the good with the bad , i had no fear of rynne despite his lack of league games but i wasnt expecting that type of performance , o'farrell is now our number 6 and another good showing , the forwards are electric when they get going but we still have huge issues in midfield at time and our full back line was all over the place

the penalty concession was very soft but so were the the two Bennett goals from play , there is a hell of a lot to work and improve on but its a good complaint after a 6 point win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,263 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

If we can get Malone back into midfield we’ll be much better

David Mac can hopefully come back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,052 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

4th goal was shocking , conor leen dragged out to nearly midfield following his man , cleary insisted on following his man out to the sideline , we were 7 points up , let them off and hold our positions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,008 ✭✭✭French Toast

The half-back line definitely needs attention before Limerick come to town.

it dose but all 3 players played well , all 3 inside backs did not , malone was dragged back to in front of the full back line as extra cover but clearly is not his position

i cant see the obvious change of moving Malone back to midfield and dropping Darragh, maybe move him back into the full back line but bar a couple of scores he done zero in the middle 3rd and added to the pressure the half back line was under

there isn't many players available to make a difference especially against limerick other than david mc who is currently injured

Ballinasloe is miserable but Athenry is a lovely ground, compact and scenic. Neither have hosted big intercounty matches in a while now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,052 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

cusack pk has a great atmosphere but the lack of seating is a joke, if they dont want to spend the money clare gaa should look to using the Gaelic grounds for bigger games

yeah Ballinasloe is a cold miserable ground , its years since i was in Athenry , atmosphere was good though

The football draws probably show more intregue in the lower divisions , although group one and 3 will be plenty competitive at senior level

O'Currys and Kilkee both declared that they would rather be Junior B then join forces together , that was when they were both senior less than 10 years ago , the loser of their game could be heading for a relegation playoff for junior b if clarecastle have their act together this year

    Clare 1-14 2-19 Kerry

An expected win for the visitors but from a clare point of view it was a promising performance after a poor league campagin , excellent performances from brian mc and aaron griffin who had a great battle with tom o'sullivan until the kerry man picked up an injury

ronan lanigan had his best game all year in the full back line , i would have prefered if cillian brennan was picking up david clifford rather than ikem , ikem done an excellent job on paudi a few years ago and stoped alot of ball into the brother , his forward runs were missed too

its a good performance with so many key players missing , i am sure kerry will improve on this too but we can be happy with todays work and hopfully a stepping stone for the tailtenn cup and more improtantly next years league and hopfully a promotion back to division 2

    Clare Scorers

    Mark McInerney 0-6

    Aarron Griffin 0-4

    Alan Sweeney 1-0

    Conor Meaney 0-2

    Brian McNamara 0-1

    Cormac Muarry 0-1

I thought Ikem was outstanding on Clifford, his athletic ability and strength is a notch above nearly every other inter county player. Cliffords scores came from taking passes on the loop and the passer screening Ikem from tackling, its a grey area in the rules and this match will see it highlighted for addressing by referees. The black card summed up Cliffords frustration with the job that was being done on him. One of the Spillanes then tried a bit of pushing and shoving with Ikem and was quickly pinned to the ground and was gasping for air when the officials came in to save him. Thought Lanningan, Cillian Rouine, Brennan, Brian Mc, Conor Meaney were good. Aaron Griffin was outstanding, he gave an awful roasting to Tom O'Sullivan who went off "injured" in the second half, the only thing injured was his pride I'd say. Clare still carrying 2 or 3 players and some odd selections and substitutions by management, whether its down to club bias im not sure. Don't think they have enough to challenge in the Tailteann but its a good competition for them to be in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,052 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

he wound him up for sure but i think there are better man markers in the side , clifford scored 1-5 from play

yeah the selection process is still a little strange , one or two pasangers still in the side

we need to be brining that kind of performance into next years league , its still looking like down will be in the tailtenn cup i cant see us wining it

The scoreline flattered Kerry a bit.

Both Kerry goals should have been a free out IMO. The dissent decision which led to a Kerry 2-pointer was odd too, the Clare lad had the shirt ripped off him.

I wasn't expecting Clare to win, so happy enough with a decent performance.
