Tbf that Armagh team in early 00s was excellent. Should have definitely bagged another 1 if possibly 2 more All Irelands.

They can be very good, but have a tendancy to go out of games and struggle to arrest the momentum when it goes against them, a lot of it down to their kick out options.

Last year they got beaten by Kerry in a 14 minute spell where they were wiped out on their kickout and couldn't get their hands on the ball. The 3rd quarter of yesterdays game wasn't too far off that where Tyrone dominated them and a better scoring team would have finished the game in that period. It is going to be a big problem for them if they can't figure how to get their hands on the ball during these periods.

What happened with the last play of the game? Going by Ocean Bay Fm Sligo had the opportunity to draw level or go for a two-pointer to win and got caught in two minds.

Sligo had a free in about 40 metres out, I think Alan McLoughlin was standing over it, thought he was going to go for it himself, instead he played it short and they worked an opportunity that went wide, they had a similar wide a minute before that.

6 games this weekend after 9 last weekend. Manageable to keep track of the number of games that are going on. Wicklow will look to make it tricky for Dublin again this year. Hard to see Antrim pushing Derry. Will be interesting to see how the other 3 Leinster games pan out.

It was 2017 when Rathnew beat a strong Vincent’s side in the AI Leinster club championship. So I am looking at Wicklow v Dublin this weekend. Back of mind thinking a Dublin team low on confidence away in Aughrim… surely not?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

A rare meeting of Derry and Antrim in Ulster. Last time was 2007.

Dublin might get a Leinster this year, even an All Ireland. The hurlers.

Great point. Beaten on penalties 4 or 5 times last few years in ulster finals and all Ireland 1/4 finals. That's one thing about Armagh. Thet are always competitive, rarely see them taking a bad beating.

As a neutral I really enjoy them because you know you'll get a good close match where tgey won't be a no show

Chalk and cheese. Tyrone swopped in to win that all Ireland and have basically been hopeless since, bar 1 or 2 big performances. Roscommon knocked them out 1 year. I remember Derry hammering them a year ot 2 after the all Ireland win.

Armagh on the other hand have been consistently competitive as one of the top 4 counties . Only losing ulster finals by the narrowest of margins

Dessie Dolan missing that tap over free 23 years ago now, where does time go at all.

Had a Westmeath fan turn around and cheer right in our faces as soon as that free left Dessie Dolan's boot. Took him a good 15-20 seconds to realise that he'd missed it.

The less said about our last championship meeting, the better. We were miles ahead at half time and a couple of Westmeath fans beside us were considering leaving. I told them that they weren't out of it yet and they looked at me like I was crazy. We'd lost a lot of big leads that year.

Four interesting Leinster games this season with all four underdogs likely thinking that they've even just a slight chance of an upset. Very wary of Westmeath. 40 points against any team is great going and our defence is like a sieve at times. Kildare just seem to be in the doldrums and have only beaten Offaly this season so Laois will fancy their chances. Wexford threw away the division 3 title and could spring a surprise against Louth. Wicklow likely need absolutely everything to go in their favour to have a chance against Dublin, but for the first time in probably 15 years, Dublin look vulnerable before they start their Leinster championship campaign.

Its funny whenever I think of Westmeath that free all those years ago is first thing that springs to mind.

I remember the heartbreak of the fans when camera zoomed in on them.

Made all the more baffling by the fact that he had put over a sideline only a minute before from a near impossible angle to pull them level. You could see how much it impacted him in the replay as he was a shadow of the player he usually was. Missed a penalty in the second half and I think we went straight down the other end and got a goal.

    Imagine.....

You'd never see a Meath man doing anything like that surely 🙄

Comes across terrible on that, in a bubble is one word for it.

I think the term is 'saying the quiet part out loud '.

Anyone who knows him will know what he's like, and the line real supporters don't buy season tickets,'they get them from mayo gaa or the clubs ' shows the contempt he holds the regular folks in .

Not like him to let the mask slip.....I wonder how many ears Johnny boy actually paid into a gaa game!!!

35 quid for a Connacht semi final is bad value. It's a competitive game, but it's a long way from a knockout or a game with any real danger to either team. It's not 1990 anymore, even provincial finals aren't what they used to be,and attendances are reflecting that.

Maybe in these challenging times, the salary of connacht GAAs full time officials should be revisited with a view to cutting costs?

It's €25 for the stand at the Laois Kildare game this Sunday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Which should be the standard price across all provinces and 20€ to stand up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 783 ✭✭✭BaywatchHQ

The last time Derry and Antrim played in championship was 2007 and it was free entry into Casement Park. The reason being was because the original fixture the week before was postponed because of rain.

Nowadays that wouldn't happen because of digital tickets. When it was pay at the gate there was no receipt to prove who had paid.

    Meath 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭blowitupref

A 4th goal for Westmeath on the hooter.  Full time Westmeath 4-18 Meath 0-25 what a win and performance by Westmeath.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,234 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

Some cheer among the Louth supporters when the Meath result was announced over the PA system.

That may come back to bite them in the ass yet.

Dublin won’t be far behind them if they don’t raise it down here. But for last minute 1-2 we’d be rightly losing this match to Wicklow..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,511 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

how we feeling about none of these games being watchable live?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Ridiculous carry on. All games should be able to watch. If not live on TV or GAA plus the home county should be allowed to stream games.

Dublin fell over the line against Wicklow. Louth won comfortably v Wexford. Louth will fancy themselves to beat Dublin next.

Westmeath v Kildare or Laois in the other semi final
