@Packrat hope all goes well, been there, wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy

Stress can do funny things to a person's way of thinking, it's hard to grasp what others are experiencing without walking in their shoes, perhaps give people on both sides a bye for now and move on to a better discussion

Understandable but it doesn't give a person free reign to say what they like about a person. We all have our own challenges in life, and a bit of compassion and empathy goes a long way. Ridiculous carry on, we all lose the cool with people. I know I've done it myself plenty of times but there was no excuse what happened to Brian.

Thank you all who've wished my daughter well this week, who offered fuel and the poster who pm'd me and offered to siphon some out of his own car/jeep tank.

That post was born out of worry simply because we've been waiting so long, its so serious given that the delay caused sepsis before and another bout of that can't happen.

At the time I posted, it looked as if the country was about to shut like Covid with everything cancelled and everyone at home over fuel shortages.

Genuine apologies for calling people cnuts. That wasnt warranted or really meant, more like what's said putting in cattle or sheep.

In general I support protests including this one and I drew food to the lads at the factory gates that time in between work.

I felt that blocking the fuel depots was too far, but thats not for this post or thread.

Anyway, we're still here hoping NOT to get a cancellation call which is still quite possible whether due to beds or the backlog. Lots of procedures were cancelled over recent days.

Wednesday travelling up and Thursday morning she's in theatre hopefully.

I'm flat bang in the middle of lambing so I'll be here with the other lad and my missus will be in Crumlin.

Thanks again, and sorry for the outburst.

I had a look at the protest forum in the beginning & seen it was overrun with as the bull McCabe would say "Outsiders" so didnt click into again. There is a small enough community on here on FF forum. All seem like decent hard working people. Yes there are disagreements, there is 1 or 2 who feel their opinions should never be questioned. But at the end of it there is good respect for one another. Everyone plays the game and not "man". That wasn't the case on the Protest forum.

It very easy to be a keyboard warrior and agitator while being anonymous, its a different story for the regular users of FF as we all know personal bits about each other and generally wish one another well & hopefully we can keep it that way.

Hope all goes well. A stressful time on any parents life.

Imo i think most people would understand the pressure and worry you were feeling.which is why most people will let it slide. Personally its apologies accepted. 👍

Have soldiered in Crumlin for nearly 5 years now with our daughter and thank god that after 4 surgeries we are on once a year visits now, what we found if you have a good surgeon is the most important thing, the system is badly broken with admin etc, a tip for you is the staff canteen for lunch slip in there and the women working in it a salt of the earth Dubs and will look after you. Best of luck with your child and hope all goes well.

I dont know what to say to you. My life was very simple before I had children but now I seem to worry a lot about things that are out of my control. I can't imagine being in your situation, Best of luck to you all

You were right to be worried. And as a father I can only imagine.

I wish you and the family the very best

Isn't funny we are so involved in our own worlds.

I was complaining to my wife about a friend of mine, who had given up answering my calls, and would read the texts but not awnser, I met him at a match recently and would barely talk. I went home and was wondering what had I done ect. It was really annoying me

Turned out the poor lad, had got very bad depression, can't work, can't go out.

I can be a bollox sometimes

A few of us were the same too here the problem arose after a while when a fella closer to him than the rest of us started getting radio silence. Then there was other lads getting in contact with him and when the other fella we knew quizzed them on how he was doing he was they didn't give him much time either. Its a strange situation but im far enough away from it not to be involved in it.

I actually met the fella in question a bit after his breakdown and he was as odd as **** with me at the time held a conversation but twas if he hadn't time for me and was kinda looking down on me in a sense too even though I had an awful lot of **** going on at the time myself too that he knew about too.

    Better living everyone

Daughter had an appointment in santry cancelled today. She had worked her lunch break last week to get the few hours off to go today. She was getting texts if she cancelled within 48 hours she'd be charged and they called her at noon today to cancel. Best of luck

The fact you kept ringing and texting is great. At times when it seems the world's on top and nobody in your corner its often good to get a call or text.

I don't suffer from depression as far as I know but I'm an awful person for biting off more than I should chew and then burning myself out trying to keep all going. I have one friend that seems to know it and rings me religiously twice a week to talk shite about football. Its a great release

On forum for farming there's a section for threads that you have to have posted so many posts to read or post in it. Works well, keeps most of the looneys at bay

I logged on this morning to see what was going on. It was like someone threw a grenade into that thread. Like you said we are a small community and hopefully we can all see past our differences. I see the video of the army tow trucks went viral, only happened a mile up the road from me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,568 ✭✭✭Kevhog1988

Down to 3 ewes to lamb now here at home. Although only small numbers at 35 ewes its been a busy few weeks keeping everything on the road with a new baby in the house also. weather has been sh1t but have to say ewes played an absolute blinder with getting lambs under cover of hedges etc.

I wonder did anyone offer to have a tug of war between the army yoke and some of the tractors to see how they'd fair

Weren't you good enough to notice his change in mood?

Complaining to the wife was only another way of saying you cared enough to worry about him.

The US are blocking the straights now. China say as they have trade agreements with Iran their ships can’t be blocked access.

So Trump seems to have escalated this to US vs China.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 32,070 ✭✭✭✭whelan2

It's strange though, it's nearly as if they're embarrassed that you know they had a breakdown. I dont think mental illness is anything to be ashamed of and it takes balls to admit you're not doing ok and ask for help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,690 ✭✭✭148multi

Don't think the US will block Chinese ships, but ships from smaller countries and companies, seize a couple of ships and the route will more or less close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,743 ✭✭✭bogman_bass

I dunno. MAGA have been gunning for a showdown with China. China doesn’t have the same force projection as theUS and this is well away from their back door. They might think China won’t be able to do much about it.
iu would be incredibly foolish but you wouldn’t put it past that lot

    https://www.irishtimes.com/politics/2026/04/13/odonovan-suggests-rte-report-used-to-encourage-protesters-to-whitegate/

I must say im disappointed with Patrick o Donovan the past week.

I had him down for a contender for ff leader, but he seems to be as blind as the rest.

Is it OK to talk politics or protests, as the last thread imploded?

Maybe there should be a new thread but call it something boring and unrelated,😁

came across this short video of wrought iron being made, last in the world making it by hand in 1974.
amazing to think our old gates came out of this process.
