You must be ecstatic tonight that your favourite Irish golfer won tonight and created yet more immortal history. 😉

Look all those European players who never won a major or won one, likes of Monty, Westwood, Donald, Casey and then players like Stenson, Sergio and Rose who have won one but might feel they should have few more.

To win 6 in this era is impressive.

I think he has the most majors of golfers still playing competitively .

Still one to go to equal Harry Vardon but he has equalled Faldo.

What a player. Delighted he got over the line, he deserves to have more majors than quite a few players, especially ones currently playing.

Hard not to have him as top European, what with having a grand slam.

you mustn’t have much going on if you’re searching for 1 year old posts 🤣 I was delighted he won tonight, I was hoping he would (and I had him backed). You telling me when I posted that message that his demeanour was the same as it is now? He played Augusta this year with an air of freedom, never got phased when he wasn't on point to be fair to him. Garcia on the other hand, breaking his driver off a cooler box 🤦‍♂️

My apologies. I meant to quote the post below yours.

They have a history in the golf forum, don't seem to like Rory or Shane, and were trying to be slyly antagonistic during this year's tournament, which is why I used their quote to show their true colours.

I'm pretty tired this morning after watching Rory's fantastic performance last night. Especially having held off Scotty, the no. 1.

Does Rory's win move him closer to the no. 1 position now, or does Scotty finishing a close second keep the gap as wide as ever?

Phenomenal stuff. I wouldn't have begrudged any first timer but with the amount of lucky bounces Smith got over the weekend eventually you have to say nah he's not for me.

Rory did the business on Friday and after that he just had to stay ahead. But then he fell behind and fought back - the true mark of a champion. He'll be looking for the threepeat now next year but above all want him to get ahead of Faldo.

He really needs to target another major this year - there surely won't be the same adrenaline and celebration come-down for this year. I don't think his record is great at Shinnecock but its surely 7-8 years since US Open was held there. I don't remember anything being played at Aronimink. No Ryder Cup this year to distract him either.

Such a disappointment for Lowry in the end, it all petered out but hopefully he can get back on the horse at Hilton Head.

Young was getting a lot of breaks. Drove one so far right that both him and Rory had their arms outstretched to let the crowd know. Camera pans there and the ball had bounced into the middle of the fairway.

Rory won 100 points, Scottie 70 points. Still 185 points between them and Scottie has played 6 tournaments less.

Rory would need an incredible run to catch Scottie this year.

You're off the twig, mate. There was no sly antagonism wrt McIlroy, I'm quite open about it. I don't like him, never have. You do, fair enough. Trawling thru year old posts, what's all that about? Cheers and Leitrim abù.

Wouldn't rule him out from getting the hattrick next year.

Another great rollercoaster of a Sunday at the Masters. Delighted for Rory. Thought he was gone after the double bogey but he steadied the ship and played some amazing shots on the day. His two putt on 11, his birdie on 12 and his putt on 16 were incredible. Hopefully he can add some more majors over the coming years. Massive effort from Scheffler yesterday, you can never write him off even when he's not firing on all cylinders. Disappointed for Lowry, up to yesterday he had been so steady. He's not far away but winning a major is so hard and not sure he'll win another one but hope he does.

I have to admit I didn't think at the outset of the final round yesterday he was going to win it after what happened on Saturday.

However, as Rory does, he surprised me.

That's how he plays golf. That's seems to be how he likes to play.

The bottling notion that some lads have on here is way too myopic and a bit simple-minded. The guy is a human being playing golf, not a boring robot like some of the others. That's why people like him (and are polarised by him). He reminds me of Ronnie O' Sullivan in snooker and it's why I always root for him and O' Sullivan when they play.

What he is is an immense talent who arguably has underachieved. In my opinion he belongs among the best of all time (not Nicklaus and Woods, I suppose but may well make more inroads that way).

I think he has silenced some of his doubters with this back to back Masters (one of four now to have done so, and lads are still calling him a choker. FFS).

His driving is a problem, but his short game has improved greatly. That and the resilience he showed this and last year have to stand to him.

So he will probably continue continue playing the way he plays but with just a bit more confidence now (he must be loving how he has silenced a lot of the arseholes) so I would not be surprised if he went on to win a good few more majors in the next ten years. If he didn't it would be far more surprising to be honest.

    My two cents.

Which of the remaining 3 majors do you think he is most likely to win? I think he did OK the last time The Open was held in Birkdale but I know he didn't win it.

I think he'll win the PGA championship and who knows after that.

He wants US Open the most especially this year as he likes Shinnecock and postponing Scheffler grand slam but likely to win not so sure. US Open unpredictable

Dont think he is getting enough credit for the 2nd shot/putt on 16 and that chip on 17. Now the shots that got him there were brutal but he bloody dam well responded. Birdie on 13 was massive settle downer too.

Last years win took a lot out of him. I felt the pga and us open came too soon for him to recover as mentally he was never going recover from just a pure rollacoaster of a ride.

I feel this time he have more of a crack at the remaining 3. He has only won one open. I reckon that be one he pick now if he was choose one more this season.

Amazing that if he wins 1 more of each Open, he has multiple grand slams. And I wouldn't be surprised if it happened
