Amazing but unsurprisingly none of our local TDs have been on their soapboxes or socials about the past 5 days of protests . There's a lot of empty fuel stations in Waterford tonight. And many more over next few days. It could be a week before full capacity returns.

Chief Butler Whip? WHERE ARE YOU???

Minister for Cummins? WHERE ARE YOU???

You might as well enjoy what little time you have left in Government (before it falls) after this debacle, because neither of you will be re-elected in the town again.

Normally both of you turn up at the opening of an envelope but have hidden beneath sheets on this particular protest. Probably away sunning themselves abroad on holidays no doubt.

It's real senior hurling now eh Mary? No wonder yer on the sidelines!

Many people supported the reason for the protests but not the way the protest turned out. Road blockages and people being questioned about their destinations leave a nasty taste.

I hope its settled because the real fuel protest is looming if the Iran business is not solved.

David Cullinane tried to make a speech to them on the bridge in Waterford and got booed out of it, video doing the rounds.

Saw it on Facebook. I'd say it shook him a bit. Comments there are fairly savage.

There's definitely discontent brewing at all levels. Butler & Cummins are definitely not shoe ins to be re-elected. And the current Government will definitely not run it's course. One of the independents has resigned. Healy Rae 1. The protests were handled unbelievably badly by those in power. It was all allowed to escalate at whirlwind speed. In a matter of days forecourts were running dry. Would not be confident to say that this chapter is closed. It has given a template to any disgruntled groups to cause chaos.

direct democracy not representative democracy……? Would hate to think what that might be like. Trump style ruling…..?

They have direct democracy in Switzerland and it works quiet well

there definitely is significant discontent brewing, im surprised it took this long for the public to say no more, and this probably isnt over yet, but id have to somewhat disagree with how the state handled the protest, yes they were very slow off the mark, but they ended it fairly lively, hence why things are gradually getting back to normal this week, if the protests continued into this week, we d be screwed, the health system could very well have collapsed without workers.

the current government may not go full term, but the reality is, election outcome numbers would very likely lead to yet another ffg government, as theres effectively only 2 governments that can be formed, ie. ffg and sf(or some configuration with sf), and the irish public isnt ready for a sf government, so its more than likely gonna be another ffg government again

it does indeed, if we were to campaign for a change in system, id be going for this, but the reality is, many would probably try opt for first passed the post, until they realise, its terrible, and worse than pr-stv, pr-stv is actually a pretty fair system, and not too bad at all, although not perfect
