Not much daylight now. The pack are closing in.

I'm sure he will get a few birdies soon.

Let the floodgates open now Rory

good job he won last year

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Come on Rory, still plenty of time

I think this round will stand to Rory tomorrow. He can play on front foot. Defending is not his style.

Really?..I think in most..possibly 4..of his 5 Majors, he was leading going into the last day.

I think his lead was too big. Almost impossible not to be defensive in that situation. Then silly mistakes follow. I still think he wins tomorrow night.

Still there, just looking to make it interesting for the punters.

Disappointing 73, but still great chance of that green Jacket tomorrow night

Absolutely. All to play for. He was off it today and playing later was a disadvantage but limited the damage. No one has ever shot 4 rounds in the 60s.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Cetyl Palmitate

Ok. 1 player has. But in November and he didn't win it!

Shame you see so little of Cam Smith since he moved to LIV. He was good to watch

not really. Fluked it last year (ala Danny Willet) collapsing again as per usual even with record lead after 2 rounds

Playing later was not a disadvantage. Young. Burns, Lowry and Day were all late starters. Worst score from any of them was -4 on the day.

What happened today was he paid for his poor shots unlike the last two days.

Just thinking about the various considerations here.

The chasing pack is closer than last year, and some serious talent in it. Pressure.

But he has won a Green Jacket, so less pressure than last year when he got it done.

He's all over the place off the tee, we know he can't scramble to a win.

Pressure to be more accurate off the tee.

He's going to need to shoot in the sixties.

I reckon if he hits fairway on 1, 2 and 3 it'll go a long way to him playing looser and more confidently. And also shift some pressure onto Young.

Him being in the lead over 36 by so much was a bit flattering, his driving was atrocious, his ability to scramble was immense but that catches up and it did today. In addition Young had a phenomenal round, +4 at one stage, immense turn around.

But Rory has it in him, he just needs to find his draw and I think he will do this.

Some drama. Last year BDC was awful with short irons and short game bailed him but it caught up with him. Same happened to Rory yesterday. Better than happening on final day though. -13 could win it if they haven't watered again

    Go Rory

If Rory could drive from tee, he'd be miles clear. Nearly every 2nd shot yesterday was a recovery shot. Lucky he is so good at them.

Might be a better scenario being level and knowing he has to go out there and win it. Being in the lead might have kept him a bit more defensive in trying to protect a lead. His driving has been disappointing given it's always been the rock solid part of his game.

I love when the Rory begrudgers appear with their little "but but but, how bad was he, blah blah" having contributed nothing to the thread in yonks.

He had a stinker of a round yet still leads. He has achieved everything in the game. Only 6 people ever to pick up a golf club achieved what he did last year. He has nothing to prove to anybody. I hope he can just drive on now today, put yesterday behind him and get another green jacket and join the back-to-back club.

For the spectator, this is absolutely poised. Can Cam Young repeat yesterday's incredible round? Can Rory rebound? Can Lowry sneak in and put himself right in contention in those early holes? Rosey, Burns, honestly I'm delighted for the theatre it will be that Rory didn't walk it. Obviously I hope him or Lowry win it but I want someone to earn it!

I don't think they'll water it very much, I think they'll want the unpredictable to form part of the narrative.

You don't need to defend an all time great. All you do is laugh at somebody that can't appreciate brilliance.
