sloppy sloppy sloppy. Missing a simple clearance kick to touch gets immediately punished by Kildunne

It picked up for the seniors. 9206, over three quarters Dexcoms capacity.

    This too shall pass.

rte trying their best to hype up the game, very small ctowd but the main event on rte radio to detriment of the gaa matches

It was a good game. The girls played well. Much more exciting than the dull soccer game. Poor Italy did not have a hope.

RTÉ did feck all, it was Virgin Media that did the heavy lifting including putting the game on VM1. 9,206 is a record attendance so I don't know where you're getting "very small crowd" from. That's more than what Virgin Media Park in Cork can hold.

    This too shall pass.

it’s a small crowd relative to gaa crowds, as a sport women’s rugby gets coverage on rte way above its national popularity, and lm not being sexist, it’s a fact

GAA crowds are irrelevant to Women's Rugby crowds, there's no licence fee allocation war going on.

    This too shall pass.

It was a big game and it wasnt to detriment to any other games

It was a very good crowd full stop especially a first international in Galway in some time. It isnt a fact and if this is the kind of posts you continue with in this thread then please dont post them.

France the much better team tonight. I think France will win this. Them mistakes we made in the first half could cost us.

Yeah, too many mistakes. Dana is generally good but two over cooked kicks to the corner is poor.

I thought the last French try should have been called back. It looks like the try scorer was on their knee when they picked up the ball, which they can't do because you can't play the ball on the ground. Then they dived over the ruck, something that Jansen was penalised for a few weeks back playing for Connacht.

Wasn't going to change the outcome but would have been a more fair reflection of the game

In most sports, once you cross the whitewash you've scored. Being held up over the line has too high a reward in rugby, possibly seven points. Held up over the line should be rewarding for the attacking team, say two points, followed by a goal line drop out.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,437 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lost Ormond

that would be terrible. no way should a team held up get any points. the whole idea of rugby is to touch the ball down in goal. just getting there should not get points.

I'm torn when it comes to situations like the hold up in the match. On the one hand, it was an incredible bit of skill, but on the other, I don't think defenders should be allowed to knee slide into an attacking player on the deck. I generally think defending teams get away with more illegal holding on in proximity to the line than they should. There's many times a carrier is tackled short of the line and there's a general pile up, where the ref can't really see anything and assumes the ball is held up.

I think in a good few situations the ball in the melee has actually gone over the try line but because the attacking team can't touch it down it's recycled backwards.

The WAIL final was an absolute cracker, UL Bohs beat Blackrock at the death. Great atmosphere despite the small crowd

    One sided all the way.

All in all a pretty satisfying tournament from the girls.

Hopefully next year we're looking at challenging France for that top 2 spot
