My grail is an Omega 2223.80, but ever since I seen the 2262.50 I cant see past its bracelet compared to the 2223.

The Peter Blakes bracelet is not as fussy imho. Classier.

So I asked AI to put the strap on the 2223.80 and for me it makes it a lot better looking. Thoughts?

    Thinking out loud.

Hypothetically speaking, if a friend of a friend had an American passport, could they buy a fancy watch tax free in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,525 ✭✭✭Homer

you don’t actually buy the watch ex vat. You pay the retail price and fill out a tax back form to be claimed when departing the jurisdiction (usually the airport) where I presume they will want travel details. Not impossible to achieve but not as straightforward as presenting a US passport

I have the quartz version with the five link bracket, not nearly as good looking without it. Only watch of mine where a stranger said 'I really like that watch you're wearing' and I don't think he noticed it was quartz, an infinitesimal percentage of people do.

    Ah ok.

I thought it was like Japan that you're a tourist, here's the VAT off.

strangely enough, the only time a stranger said they like my watch was when in Zurich airport.. and the watch was my Steinhart GP LE

    Similar.

A few years ago, was at a consultant appointment with my son where had to wear a support boot. I was strapping it up afterwards and the doctor, who was maybe lat 40s, said that's an unusual watch, my dad had one very like it.

Mine was a sterile dial Alpha version of the classic Speedmaster.

He went on to say his dad was a Connie pilot in the 60s.

Anyone for a group buy of RAF Military Issue Seiko Chronographs?

12 not working. Nothing that @H_Lime couldn't fix!

Bank Holiday weekend coming soon H,that would keep you quiet!

What a fascinating proposition that auction is. It would be a slow burn return but there's possibly double your money in that at buy it now 12k. Even assuming half of the 12 non runners needed circuit blocks due to battery leakage/water and the other six were dried up lube.

There are some devoted (weirdo) collectors in the 7A community (I thought I was bad with sixish, one lad has 300+) but I cannot see a collector amassing that many gen2!? I wonder was this the result of an auction lot of military issued surplus/stores.

    A very interesting lot!

Well all my cards are maxed out, but I'd gladly buy one if someone was to pull the trigger (pardon the pun!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,153 ✭✭✭H_Lime

Mad stuff, no bites on that lot and he's offering the whole shebang for ten k.

Easy money there for someone with a UK address.

    That seed is germinating nicely!

He’d obviously take less than £10k.
Car and ferry day trip for @H_Lime!

One was wearing an X-33 I think and not a MoonSwatch among them.

    Loving the new Longines Hydroconquest.

I tried on the previous version a couple of years ago and it didn't grab me, this one does though.

Will have to see how it looks on the wrist. 😁

Saw one in Fields jewellers earlier (39mm blue, 2200 euro)

Staff said they are very popular, they've sold 3 already this week

A bit small for my eyes, I'd be looking for a 42mm black

She said everyone is asking about the black 42mm but they can't source any!

Not sure if it was the lighting in the shop but I found it a bit shiny and sparkly

The bracelet is brushed rather than polished at least so that might tone it down a bit

I've always been a bit underwhelmed by Longines' sports models on the wrist. Fit and finish just doesn't seem quite there (particularly the bracelets), though the new models like this are supposed to be a bit more refined.

Loving having the tiniest bit of connection to the space race on my wrist at this special time of a new generation of achievement with Artemis.

I remember it being discussed before, but can't find it. Who is the best person for getting a watch regulated? I think someone mentioned a shop in Kilkenny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,218 ✭✭✭✭banie01

Do you mean John Donohue at the https://vintagewatchrepair.ie/contact-us/

I've recommended him a few times on here for servicing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 723 ✭✭✭Pablo_Flox

I have sent an email. Hopefully he gets back to me tomorrow!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 723 ✭✭✭Pablo_Flox

Surprisingly he said that he wouldn't be able to improve a 6r55 Seiko movement that is +22 (so technically in spec but leaves a lot of room for improvement).

    Anyone have any other recommendations?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,372 ✭✭✭Soarer

There’s a lad on adverts that does custom seiko stuff, and regulates his builds himself.
I’m not sure if he does servicing, but might be worth a shout?

    He goes by @thewintermute

I’ve no connection to the man. Just a happy customer of his.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,153 ✭✭✭H_Lime

It can certainly be regulated to better than +22spd, even without knowing your activity/usage whilst wearing it. I can only conclude he just doesn't want the job?

From my perspective I can kinda get this, you run the risk of removing and reinstalling the bracelet and caseback and do delicate work on balance to charge a very nominal amount.
