I'd just place the new order and then contact them especially if you have an order for May as it's hard to know when that boat will arrive.

The stealth grey one is gone but the white one still there.

You can get a refund on the existing order if they dont transfer the deposit, but I know someone who did it before and they transferred the deposit no problem.

For Waze, what works best for me is setting a destination, leaving the phone on with the screen active and charging, and switching sound output to phone speaker (alerts only).

    Model 3 standard/rwd 1000km report.

We collected our model 3 ,2 weeks ago and have done motorway, commuting, shopping, speed bumps and now a boot packed-full, family weekend away.

Its been perfectly good. No worries with suspension. It's possible that it's not as composed as a highland, but not by much, like 5%? Mainly drains and holes on left side of car I noticed. Having driven previous M3 and older MY...this is a very different car to those. Much improved. Build quality, panel gaps, materials are all highland standard. The cloth seats are just fine, same as nearly all its competitors ( and I drive other vehicles for a job, so I know a bad seat). The controls on screen are a moot point. Like people say, profile saves+job done. Tbh it's not that hard to tweak.

Software on screen is very good. Route planner and % on arrival especially. Having Spotify on screen is very handy too, no smartphone needed. Talking of phone, I'd really prefer a keyfob. Pairing phones, then securing Bluetooth at night for security is just a faff. Throwing keys/fob into a faraday box is just better.

This car replaced an Octavia, owned from new for 8 years. I honestly would place it as the all electric version of the SKODA. Similar footprint, interior size and space, including cargo.

It was significantly cheaper to purchase and finance than an Octavia, or even other EV ( ID3/ EV3/ Elroq etc).

If anyone is on the fence, I'd say go for it. Once you can cope with Tesla buying experience 🤣.

Good review there. I would agree with all of the above. Coming from a 2023 Model Y. The suspension is miles better than the MY.

Im not aware of any reports of Tesla's being stolen via relay attacks in Ireland. I just dont think theres a (black) market for a base model Tesla in particular.

If you are worried about security, just turn Passive Entry Off or easier still, enable PIN to drive.

After a few years of ownership, I certainly dont miss having to carry keys/remote around.

But that aside, well wear and enjoy the car.

Dust off the tin foil hats, we're back to car theft conspiracies like it was 2020 just yesterday.

I'm continually surprised by the efficiency of the M3 RWD Highland.

Just back from a couple of days away down in Wexford. We drove around to a few places like the national heritage park, secret valley wildlife park etc..

Car was fully loaded up with 5 and luggage.

Temperature was between 10 and 15 degrees.

Driving mostly N roads and a bit of motorway too.

Maintained mostly 110k/h on the motorway and A/C on for the duration.

    Efficiency was 11.6kwh/100km over 353km.

Battery was at 26% (started at 100%).

So, under these conditions, the range is around 475km.

All the range you'd ever need really.

    Non-EV drivers clearly.

You don't need a big battery when the car is efficient, such as the Model 3/Y.

I get similar efficiency from my new Y when not on motorway runs.

Another advantage is that you will always be able to fill to 100% on an over night rate charge.

Yep, they are perfect for this country really.

I previously had a 23 Y Dual motor and it was at around 17.5kw/100km over about 15k km.

Again, very decent but I tended to only charge to 90% which would have meant around 385km range or around 430km at 100%.

I saw another Freemont M3P on the back of a flatbed yesterday, second one I've seen in as many months. I wonder was it the HV battery; they're a bit flakier than the RWD and other sedate M3 versions I think?

Was it a 2021 did you see? Panasonic packs seem to have some issues around that time. As far as I know all the P models came from Fremont and with Panasonic until the 2024 HL. Anyway, the Tesla warranty is good as long as the pack fails by 192k km.

No it was a 192, one of the early birds. Might not have been HV but was on a flatbed.

Not having a key fob has been a revelation for me. To the point where if I was to swap from a Tesla it would have to be as good as that. What are you securing Bluetooth at night for, exactly?

Because a man in the pub swore you have to!!

agree, not having keys is great. I was away at Easter and on my first day with the rental car I jumped out a few times without the keys and left the engine running.

I have PIN to drive set, but is there really any need?

Car locks at home when I get about 2m away and doesn't unlock until I'm standing beside the car.

Are there many/any reports of Bluetooth repeaters, etc. being used to steal Teslas?

The chances of somebody putting together the equipment needed to do this and then stealing a car that can't really be sold and has a highly accurate built in gps tracker are so close to zero that it's not even worth thinking about.

But…the man in the pub with the nice - if odd - silver hat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 378 ✭✭evftw

This is true especially the UWB BT:

"Traditional key fobs and initial digital key versions relying solely on Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) were susceptible to relay attacks because BLE, while good for long-range communication, lacks precise localization. The CCC Digital Key 3.0 specification mandates Ultra-Wideband (UWB) specifically to counter this. UWB measures the true time-of-flight (ToF) of the signal with centimeter-level precision, allowing the car to verify that the key is physically located inside the vehicle before allowing the engine to start."

It's alright lads, mojomaker knows best. But sure slag me off for being cautious about the brand new car.

Thank you for all the information, and FYI there have been actual real life car thefts in my area, linked to signal scanners and repeaters.

No tin foil hats needed here.

Yea, sort of spoils the benefit of hopping in and driving away.

I think i'll take me chances

Relay theft is a massive issue in the UK. Not so much here tho. Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think I'd really care too much if my car got stolen. That's what insurance is for.

My relatives car was stolen mid March and it's an absolute pain to deal with. From being without a car, her terrified it'll happen again, dealing with Garda, storage, low balled by insurance, etc. I'd definitely care if my car was stolen.

Knocked it off yesterday and instantly a much better experience, funny how those few seconds annoy you 😁

FSD Supervised Approved in NL… here’s hoping the instrument signed in by Canney a few weeks back allows a quick recognition of the exemption here 🤞
