Sadly not at all surprising. Israel doing their best to derail the ceasefire and get the US back to bombing Iran.

💢🇱🇧 BREAKING | Israel launched 100 strikes across Lebanon in 10 minutes Wednesday afternoon, targeting Beirut, the south, and the Bekaa Valley — hours after a ceasefire was announced and declared “effective immediately” by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Sounds of ambulances filled the streets of Beirut from 3 PM local time. The Lebanese Red Cross head Georges Kettaneh told LBCI: “The wounded and casualties are numerous. We are doing everything we can to save them.” Several Beirut hospitals issued urgent blood donation appeals.

Neighborhoods struck in Beirut without prior warning included Salim Slem, Borj Abi Haidar, Corniche al-Mazraa, Bashoura, and the southern suburbs. Kaifoun and Bshamoun, east of Beirut, were also hit, according to L’Orient Today.

Across southern Lebanon, the cities of Tyre, Sidon, and Nabatieh were struck alongside villages including Adloun, Bazourieh, al-Abbassieh, Zefta, Sir al-Gharbieh, Ansar, and Ain Baal. In Sidon, a strike on the al-Zahraa complex wounded Al Manar correspondent Amin Shumer.

In the eastern Bekaa Valley, strikes hit Baalbek and villages including Hermel, Shemstar, al-Karak, al-Ferzel, Boudai, and Sohmor. Several people were wounded in Hermel. Two people were killed when a truck was struck between Hasbaya and Maymas.

The Amal Movement confirmed six people killed in an earlier strike on Srifa, a village in southern Lebanon near the coastal city of Tyre.

In Mansouri — another southern village along the Mediterranean coast — 13 residents, including the village mukhtar, lost contact after returning home following the ceasefire announcement, as the town came under repeated shelling.

Netanyahu has stated the ceasefire does not cover Lebanon, even as Hezbollah halted fire on northern Israel and invading ground troops, according to Reuters. Drop Site correspondent Lylla Younes reported warplanes back in the sky over Beirut at 8 AM local time, with ambulances running nonstop and people screaming in the streets.

    Lebanese Prime Minister:

Our friends are called upon to help us stop the Israeli attacks by all means.

This is Israel throwing a tantrum over the ceasefire. What pr1cks.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

it’s nuts. When you think about the trouble Israel cause, the murder and the misery. Yet, Israel as a country, in terms of total landmass, is only roughly a third of the size of Ireland. How has the international community ever allowed that ?

If it wasn’t for the support of the US, who gift them billions a year and provide obvious other supports and protection … id say they’d have been dealt with by now….

Even the Lebanese government has asked countries to stop Israel using any means available. It was so predictable that the zionists would intensify their bombing of Lebanon and/or Gaza at the first opportunity. A fatal cancer at this stage.

They will never abandon their homes after they saw what the Nakba consequences were for Palestinians. Israel will always have to sleep with eyes open as long as they terrorise their neighbours.

It's really is an awful horrible tragedy. Doubly so because we indirectly support Israel due to our dependence on the USA. You could not make it up.

A targeted strike on a funeral ceremony that was carried out this morning in the Bekaa Valley - Eastern Lebanon.

Total chaos as the bombing seems to be increasing by these monsters in the last hour.

Death toll from Israeli strikes across Lebanon rises to 254, the Lebanese civil defense says.

Israel is a monster and western politicians won't even condemn it or exclude it from all international activity. Horrific situation for humanity to be in having to deal with these extreme murderers.

Israel has bombed locations across Lebanon, including the capital Beirut, in devastating attacks that authorities say has killed at least 254 people and wounded more than 1,165.

There is no military logic for what Israel done today.

It was an outright act of brazen terrorism that would have been a major defining event had it been committed by any insurgent or terrorist group like IS or others.

This was a no-warning multiple bombing of a busy city centre with a huge number of civilian casualties.

The military logic is implementation of their Greater Israel plan. They are moving the border north and have already eyes on Beirut. The land theft is a drip feed of their strategic plan.

Let's give Israel the benefit of the doubt and assume they are acting in self-defence against Hez along their Northern border. (But, you may be right).

Even on that ground it does not make sense.

I think today's outrage was either aimed at the Israeli domestic audience as an act of performative politics, or a pushback against yesterday's ceasefire efforts.

I also wouldn't rule out a crude attempt by Israel to stoke the sectarian divide within Lebanon. The Israeli airstrikes have been following Hez members as the entire population of the South has been pushed Northwards and towards Beirut beyond the Southern suburbs. And some Lebanese citizens are afraid because of that.

Either way, it was a blatant terrorist act.

Yet, I don't think we will be lighting up our public buildings with the flag of Lebanon or opening books of condolence.

They are grabbing land and wiping out Arabs. They are the reason hamas and Hezbollah exsist. They refuse to observe any ceasefire. **** Israel. If Iran want to send their entire stock pile at them I'm all for it.

Well, I'm aware of the history and the present. I'm still trying to understand it all, and am hoping for that awful conflict to be resolved.

I honestly think that there is no military solution, and that the peoples of the region will ultimately have to mutually create a living arrangement for themselves.

But that seems like a distant dream right now, unfortunately.

I just can't understand the lack of condemnation. From really anywhere. Is the whole world that terrified of being labelled antisemitic, which is always the response of any criticism of Israel?

Spain has been quite strong in their condemnation of the massacre. The only country in Europe showing some backbone

Good on Sanchez. Has our government said anything?

The US and Israel will try to make an example of Spain. We can only guess what's going on behind the scene to destabilise the current Spanish government.

If anything, it is almost the opposite here. The poster you are replying to has posted anti-semitic posts, which were sufficiently anti-semitic that they were deleted from the site.

I know the vast majority of posters are anti-Israeli government, which is 100% NOT anti-Semitic. But there are still actual anti-semites posting here, and they should be called out on their racism. But attempts to do so are widely dismissed because there seems to be a working assumption that calling out anti-semitism is an attempt to deflect from criticising Israeli government actions. That's not necessarily the case at all. And it's definitely not the case when I do it. I abhor racism and will call it out when I see it.

Israel is the biggest money laundering/mafia group the world has ever seen. Money leaves the American exchequer, into the Israeli exchequer. Money leaves the Israeli exchequer into AIPAC. Money leaves AIPAC and finds itself in the pockets of American politicians. All these payments hold weak American politicians to ransom. Israel is a cash cow for them

Is someone attacking Palestinians an anti-semite?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,394 ✭✭✭Enduro

Are you trying to get some kind of "gotcha" here because Palestinians are semites, and I will be too thick to realise?

You are very defensive in answering the question. When you asserted 'But there are still actual anti-semites posting here', what did you actually mean?
