The point is that the U.S. used ground forces in Vietnam and Afghanistan and got their asses kicked. In Iraq they created the ****-show that lead to the ISIS Islamic state that the Kurd`s had to clean up.

The idea that they could send ground troops into Iran and have a different result is the definition of insanity.

Vance is afetr saying Trump said that is the Iranians keep acting like Trump he will end their Country, thats the shortened version, Vances exact words below.

This is why I say this is a fragile truce. You have people who clearly want to come to the negotiating table and work with us to find a good deal, and then you have people who are lying about even the fragile truce that we’ve already struck.

The president … has told me and he’s told the entire negotiating team, the secretary of state, the special envoy, Steve Witkoff, he said: go and work in good faith to come to an agreement. … If the Iranians are willing, in good faith, to work with us, I think we can make an agreement; if they’re going to lie, if they’re going to cheat, if they’re going to try to prevent even the fragile truce that we’ve set up from taking place, then they’re not going to be happy.

I'd say you would get good odds

What has he ever done that could be classified as intelligent over the long term?

Or at the very least what's his batting average of good ideas to bad ideas?....fairly poor I'd say if it wasn't for the massive privileges handed to him and people cleaning up his messes for him I'd have him at the level of a fraudulent used car salesman....and I feel I should apologise to used car salesmen for the comparison tbh.

Trump has only succeeded in making the lives and suffering of ordinary Iranian civilians even worse. The hard line regime is stronger than ever. I suspect we will see a lot more Iranian refugees heading to Europe. Lebanese too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

There are only two people responsible for putting up the price of oil that everyone else has now to pay the price for their warmongering attempts at keeping them out of prison.

Trump and his genocidal friend Netanyahu.

Alastair Bunkall of Sky News was on Newstalk earlier listing all the things that haven't been changed by this conflict: the straits of Hormuz, Iranian nuclear capability...but he also pointed out that the world now sees how easily Iran can close Hormuz - that gives them massive leverage in future conflicts, leverage they didn't have before this "incursion".

I really enjoy strategy games. These games tend to have some kind of unrest mechanic which can lead to rebellions. Along with this is the matter of terrain. Attacking units take severe penalties when trying to advance into mountains.

This aside, it utterly blows my mind that Americans aren't livid about this given their $2 trillion misadventure into Afghanistan. If Trump keeps raising the stakes, he's going to find himself locked into another humanitarian calamity with no justification.

It seems to me that ordinary Iranians standing has now been massively improved. Trump has gifted them a permanent revenue stream, their trade with east Asia continues unabated and actually on better terms with their noose around their GCC rivals exports.

The Iranian royalists on the other hand will be disappointed of course, to the privilaged equality looks like injustice.

A quote from Vance last night

As the president told me last night the Iranians are better negotiators than they are fighters,”

Laughable. A 4 year old sticking crayons up their nose could out negotiate Trump and his lackies.

Every time I see Trump adding more trillions to the U.S. debt I think of Mike`s reply to Bill in Hemingway`s novel The Sun Also Rises on how he went bankrupt. "Two ways. Gradually and then suddenly"

Our record of building anything you must be joking. They need to substantially increase the grants for solar / micro wind for ordinary people. Put solar on a substantial amount of public buildings. Make it attractive for solar on car parks ( state owned and private owned)

"In a drive to boost clean energy production, the French Senate recently approved legislation that makes it mandatory for all existing and new car parks with 80 spaces or more to be covered by solar panels."

Allow data centers but part of planning that they have to cover roofs etc in solar panels/ heat recovery systems

They should put in a huge LNG terminal and also oil storage as a matter of urgency.

Take the bull by the horns and build nuclear plant(s)

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but the Democrats pulled off 2 whopping swings in Wisconsin and Georgia last night, to mark TACO Tuesday.

First there was a 60/40 victory in a Wisconsin Supreme Court judge election, in what is normally a 50/50 state (and one won by Trump in 2024).

Judge Chris Taylor wins Wisconsin Supreme Court race, expanding court’s liberal majority | CNN Politics

Secondly the GOP held MJT's congressional seat in Georgia but only by 56/44 compared to 64/36 last time.

Republican Clay Fuller wins Georgia special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene | CNN Politics

They also increased their vote from 21% to 31% in a Georgia State Senate special election, in a deep-red area.

All in line with previous 8-10% swings that the Democrats have been achieving lately and suggesting that the GOP will find it very hard going in November, even after their Texas and other redistricting.

He has sussessfully buried the trump-epstein files no 1 will dare ask again or he will threaten to erase a culture somewhere and his crime family and friends made lots of money.

The last few weeks was a wh horror show lots of military purged.

America is now even more isolated its weapons are seen as expensive and overpriced when put against cheap drones and missiles they lost a lot of expensive kit.

Hope Ukraine can establish a new market with the gulf states for its antidote defence systems.

Do we think Hegseth will get the chop for this failure? It seems he was the main one on the US side pushing for this war and also the one who dismissed the risks that advisors correctly raised.

the premission given by the government UK to the US that it can only land/service aircraft , on UK airfields/airports , that are used for defensive purposes is )pie in the sky’ stuff. Why?
    (1) how can The UK verify this?
    (2) what about guns/ ammunition on board labelled as being used to defend only but decision might change in the war zone and then being used to go on the attack

    (3) is the war anyway ALL ABOUT THE US ATTACKING IRAN and not defending itself from IRAN

Well someone other than Trump will have to take the blame , he's not going to accept an once of blame - Hegseth and Caine are up for the chop fairly shortly you'd imagine.

That's been Trump M.O. for ever though.

He's gotten away with it up to now , but maybe finally the trick is no longer working.

No one beyond the ultra hard core are going to buy it..

And even some of them are starting to break - I mean Alex Jones was roaring about him yesterday ffs.

North Vietnamese losses are estimated at 1.1 million fighters. South Vietnamese military deaths totaled approximately 200,000–250,000, while U.S. fatalities were 58,220.

Iran doesn't have a China on its doorstep willing to pour in resources and it's not covered in dense jungle. 80% of the population doesn't support the regime either.

They'd take losses for sure but it'd be nowhere near Vietnam.

Us ground forces did not get their asses kicked in Vietnam and especially not in Afghanistan. The failures in both were far more political than military. And that is where they would have (or indeed have) fallen down in Iran also.

You can't say it's a good or bad deal until a deal has been made. The only thing they've agreed on as of now is to meet in Pakistan in 2 days and apparently a reopening of the straight but the biggest shipping companies are seeking clarification on that before they move.

What we absolutely categorically do know is that any deal made will be worse in every way than the deal that Trump blew up in 2018 simply because Obama had made it.

We also know that whatever deal is made will leave us ALL worse off than we were only a few weeks ago.

All because Trump is an incoherent imbecile tricked into a war by a genocidal lunatic (who himself needs a war to stay out of jail in his own country for corruption).

    Per CNN:

"The full details of the 15-point US plan have not been published but it is believed to include: Iran committing to no nuclear weapons, handing over its highly enriched uranium, limits on Tehran’s defense capabilities, an end to regional proxy groups and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Other points on the table include an acknowledgment of Israel’s right to exist, the two regional sources said."

    https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/08/middleeast/us-iran-ceasefire-explainer-war-intl-hnk

These are the facts along with Iran's list of 10 points. They'll either meet somewhere in the middle or the war resumes in 2 weeks.
