Limerick seem to win most of the hard ball. Cork will improve you can be sure. Byrnes, bar the mistake and o donoghue had great games

Mad reading some of the threads here and on The42.ie saying the ref gave Limerick everything. I was watching on the TG4 player on my phone so I didn't have the sound turned up, but I thought Cork were getting most of the generous decisions. I guess the fella who said the réiteoir did his best to annoy both teams must have been spot on. Looks like a fair result anyway, looking back at it now.

Love the way he doesn’t shy away from the physical stuff. Hes hard as nails, an assassin of a full forward, give him half a yard and hes going to turn the full back and head for goal, he’s having a great year so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,752 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

True. He gets a fair few wallops and hits but just gets on with it.

Id say Cahill is licking his lips after that today, should be interesting in Thurles in 2 weeks time.

cork got several soft enough frees in the 1st half that really kept them in the game , in the second half they were going mad over a shane barrett throw ball but it was blatant , limerick are still a quality side , they probably have more drop off points in their game then they did in 2022 or 2023 but they are a serious team again

my biggest worry going into your first game , we conceded 2 goals today by losing rucks inside our own 13 yard line

Good to get the record in finals on track again, that's now 15 wins from 16 finals under Kiely.

It was a well contested game, despite some of the usual suspects in the media having their 'shadowboxing' excuses in early. John Fogarty in the examiner: 'Cork wont be perturbed by the loss in a game lacking in intensity'. Dont know what game he was watching, there was plenty of hard running, tackles and battles in the game. The examiner, including Dalos podcast, are obsessed with this type of nonsense.

Limericks intensity in attack was excellent, the half foward line never stopped making runs and showing for puckouts.

Byrnes had his best game in a couple of years, despite the bad mistake for the goal. Id have been questioning him earlier in the year, but he has really clicked back to form. All the backs played well and Cork werent allowed much space. O Donoghue now firmly established at 6.

O Connor and O Brien didnt have their best games, though O Connor did a lot of running. Lynch a bit quieter than normal as well. The shooting accuracy was a bit off at times so plenty of room for improvement.

O Connor missed 4 frees, but 2 were low percentage ones. Missed a straightforward one v Galway also so there's a little bit of pressure on that now.

Id imagine it' ll be the same starting team for championship.

A lot of match reports seem to have this "lack of intensity" line. I get the feeling they had the articles half written before the ball was thrown in.

Does Nickie get some blame on that goal. Yes Byrnes **** up with a bad pass but why are you so far out of your goals looking for the ball. Especially when it looks like there's two free defenders also available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,849 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

It's a fairly common thing to do. It went wrong once in a hundred.

I agree though there was a better pass available to a defender.

Ah sure the league was of no importance this year, completely different to last year!!!!

Anyone know if its one or two teams Limerick have for the Celtic Challenge tournament?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 236 ✭✭Shocs24

Ya it's moronic reporting. Similar to the....teams may be keeping something in reserve nonsense before a ball was pucked. Both teams wanted to win it and in reality when Limerick turn it on no team can match them.

There should be absolutely no blame on Nickie for that goal. He made the right move into space and byrnes would find him 99% of the time. It was just a freak mistake. I actually thought bar the goal byrnes was brilliant.

Hegarty had his best game in a while, such an important player for this team. Also Gillane is unplayable especially when we find him with enough ball

BOC would want to get his head looked at if he puts O'Donogohe on Gillane again , he roasted him and Mellierick was as bad when he went on him. Probably unmarkable at this stage really.

I think its more the lack of protection their full back line got. 40 yards of space in front of them for most of the first half is nearly impossible for any back.

Great to see Limerick and Cork first and second favourites for the all ireland with the bookies, same as last year.

We know where Cork and Limerick are at after the weekend. Also know that Clare will be very competitive this year. The big unknown now is Tipp. Can Cahill turn around an indifferent league campaign? I think he will. Tipp players should have a swagger about them after last year and shouldn't lack confidence.

As a Cork man, I don't know how you could say we know where Cork are at after Sunday and still have them as joint favourites with Limerick as per the bookies. There was a big enough gulf between the teams on Sunday I thought and the scoreline flattered Cork if anything.

Having said that they got close enough on the scoreboard at times and if the Barrett throw was let go they might have goaled and kicked on. The pressure on Cork to win in Thurles is huge as you could be staring down the barrel of a short summer a week later.

    Worth a look

If Sean Stack was reffing he'd have given Cork a free for breaking the hurley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 236 ✭✭Shocs24

Not before booking a few Limerick players for dissent and bringing the ball forward in Cork's favour 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75 ✭✭jommer01

I'd say you must have played a decent level of hurling if you thought there was any more in that than a yellow card which is what he got. Stupid and careless from the Cork player but if you played at all you'd know that that wouldn't hurt in the slightest and only looks dramatic because the hurley broke.

Like the dig in the nuts Hayes got didn't hurt either, will u go away ta fcuk

I won't even go there with that incident I think you're talking about.

Sad state of affairs if people think there's much in that video above.

Similarly the incident in the previous league match where Kyle Hayes broke a hurley off Tommy O Connell who jumped into him. Got a yellow card but was barely a free and you had clowns calling for a red who haven't a clue.
