I was wondering if anyone on here has experience of this role? It's possible I might get an offer of a position in the next few months. I'm currently in a good job and would actually have to take a pay cut to take this position, but I think it could be better for me long term than where I am now. I have a lot of CO experience but have not worked in an office for nearly five years now so it would be a bit daunting for me going in as EO to AGS. I was wondering if anyone on here would recommend the position, or otherwise?

Hi @weadick , thanks for posting this — it's actually really helpful to hear from someone in a similar position. I was also part of the 2025 EO open competition with AGS and I'm currently in the pre-employment stage. I was wondering if you could share a bit about where you're at in the process? Specifically, I'm trying to get a sense of when offers are likely to be rolled out and whether you've heard anything about panel movement or intake dates. Any info you could share would be greatly appreciated — even just knowing roughly what stage others are at helps a lot. Thanks in advance!

Hey. I'm actually from the 2024 EO panel. I was placed on two panels after a successful interview in September of this year. In October I was offered a postion from one panel that was 1.5hrs away from where I live, which I turned down, so now I'm off that panel. I'm still on another panel but there does not appear to be any movement on it. I subsequently discovered that there was an EO position available in the Garda Station in the town where I live, but I don't have a hope of getting it now as I am off the panel, which is very frustrating. I did three EO interviews in 2015/2016 and failed all of them, so I was very surprised to do well this time around. I'm finding it very difficult to find out what EO in the Guards entails, there were no responses to this thread. From what I understand many Garda Staff are looking to get out of AGS and into the general civil service.

Hi @joshua John I am also myself in the middle of pre-employment stage. I around 9 weeks now waiting for the Garda Vetting to back fully clear, so hopefully after that we finally know about the starting date. How long are you on waiting for your Garda Vetting and what location are you in for? Myself

    Kildare.

I was a garda for 31 years - the last 15 as a sergeant. As bad as it can get in those roles now and again I did not envy any of the clerical staff but then I never liked all the paperwork either. They introduced the pulse computer system to get rid of a lot of the paperwork but that computer system only added to the workload as now you have to have your computer records up to date as well as the paperwork and both have to match.

They were always running around after Gardai looking for this or that file or statistical return. Then typing up endless statements trying to read a garda's handwriting. Oh god - not for me thanks.

    I’m Kildare too.

I submitted my Garda Vetting around 10 Feb. The NVB side seemed to move quickly (wrapped up overnight), but I’m still waiting for the overall pre-employment checks to fully clear and for any update on a start date.

Good to know I’m not the only one waiting. Hopefully we all hear something soon.

There's loads of different jobs an EO could be doing in AGS, you could be in a finance or hr office or you could work for a Superintendent as their clerk or PAF admin.

EOs may have COs that report to them or they might not depending on role

Are you currently working as a EO in the AGS? If so could you share your personal experience?

    Thank you

I've been using AI to read handwriting pretty successfully. That kinda work will disappear. Someone will create some bureaucracy it can't do though.

Not anymore but I used to be. I worked in a finance office for a few years. Had a good experience, was very happy there and only moved on promotion

I think most Gardai type up their own statements and reports themselves these days so it's probably not such a big thing anymore. Back in the 90's early 2000's the more senior guards could not type - or at least that's what they said.

Hi did you hear nothing about a start date yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 FriendlyFrog22

Hi @zompate88 — I’m in a similar position myself (still waiting after pre-employment/vetting stage). Have you had any further contact recently from Garda HR or Vetting Section apart from the original checks? Just trying to gauge whether there’s been any movement for Kildare candidates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 zompate88

I got a call 2 weeks ago and I have been told to be assigned to Naas area, but apparently my Garda Vetting still not complete is so frustrated waiting. I think now is around 12/13 weeks what about you? Anyway we can keep in touch so we keep update ourselves

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 FriendlyFrog22

Hi @zompate88 — thanks for sharing that, it’s really helpful to know I’m not the only one in this position.

I’m in a very similar situation — also got a call recently about Naas/Kildare, but vetting still ongoing and no further update since.

Seems like we might be in the same batch. Happy to stay in touch here and share any updates if either of us hears anything.

Yes sure as soon I hear something I will be in touch. Do you mind ask you what number you where on the OOM for kildare myself number 5.

Thanks for sharing — that’s really helpful.

I’m in a similar position myself (early part of the panel) and also got a call regarding Naas, but still waiting on vetting to complete with no update since.

Looks like we’re in the same batch alright. Happy to stay in touch and share any updates if either of us hears anything.
