@MojoMaker, You’ve obviously nothing useful to add as per usual, jog on.

People doing 100 on mway all the time. Ice and ev. I passed a long line of ice drivers the last day who were travelling at 100, paying 228 a litre and trying to conserve some fuel I imagine. I was just finishing up my 500km trip for a fiver.

But nowhere in the ad does it say a 500km journey. It just says 500km.
If you’re extrapolating a single journey, then you’re the problem, not the ad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,206 ✭✭✭joe1303l

If the ad was relevant to a widely available 3hr cheap charging window and quoted 150Km for €1.50 or whatever, it wouldn’t be an issue. It’s just a cheap sales tactic, nothing more. Even picking 500Km is a bit silly considering a small battery version of an Ioniq 5 wouldn’t do anywhere near 500Km on a charge anyway.

Again, you’re reading it the way you want to read it.

Nowhere in the ad does it say “500km in a single journey” or “500km from a single charge”.
All it says is you can do 500km for €5, which is perfectly doable.

So again, it’s your interpretation is the problem, not the ad.

Not sure if it was mentioned here but the ICCU warranty appears to have been extended to 15 years or 300km by Hyundai Europe.

Not on here but it was mentioned on a FB group earlier. Initially by Hyundai UK but subsequently seems to include Europe as well. Welcome news but well overdue.

Yeah no harm, the report also stated that the issue has been resolved by early 2024 although it's not been confirmed by Hyundai- Confusing?.This ICCU issue certainly isn't doing their reputation any favours!

Thanks fantastic news. I was considering swapping mine around 5/6 years old so will probably keep it long term now.

Apologies if I'm being a nuisance doing 90kph in my ionic 5 on motorways. I get really good efficiency and arrive without being stressed weaving in and out. I use a novel technique: I just start my journey earlier.

How can we confirm that this applies in Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,206 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Your time might be better spent getting a HGV licence and driving a truck if that’s where you like to spend your time. Might need to get one of these stickers for the back of that Hyundai otherwise.

Europe is considered one market for most products and warranties are transferable so it should apply here.

The guy they are quoting in the article Conor Twomey must be Irish with a name like that. Anyone have a LinkedIn profile that they can look him up or message him?

The article says the warranty applies to the cars manufactured before April 2024 and that after that date they have a redesigned ICCU.

I've got a profile, but I'm not allowed to message him - requires "Premium"

Is this the same "redesigned" ICCU module that still fails on 2026-built Insters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 275 ✭✭evftw

That was my initial thought too, but as they are two separate platforms with different battery pack voltages the parts surely must be different. But probably designed with similar design faults as the charger faults are not common on other makes.

So is the current ICCU on the 800V cars genuinely better and is it backwards compatible with the older cars is the real question here?

No chance they fixed it. The point is: When your car becomes approx 3 years old, they can afford to admit it's been f**ked the whole time. Not until then. So MY25/26 owners will have to wait 2-3 years for the announcement I think.

This is what I'd be afraid of. Too many 2026 Hyundais suffering from ICCU failure to be otherwise really.

Confirmed by Hyundai Ireland themselves for both Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6:

I wonder about that date too. Inster owners getting multiple replacements in 2025 & 2026 and talks of a software fix to reduce occurrence. Multiple slightly different issues , charge rate dropping from 6.6kW to 1.5kW and staying there for the rest of the charge, sometimes the high voltage battery fuse blowing with a bang and car then stranded. Sometimes 12 volt not getting charged issues.

Its probably a different set up on ioniq 5. 800 volt would probably use different components. Anyone hear of ioniq 5 from 2025 facing failures?

The ICCU handles charging and discharging as in driving the motor and charging the battery from AC chargers. It probably also controls high speed DC charging. It may also supply V2L option.

Based on the new warranty a pre April 2024 car may be a safer bet on the used market if intending keeping it for 10+ years.

I've both an Ioniq 5 and an Inster… Of course I knew about the ICCU issues with the Ioniq 5 when I ordered the Inster a year ago, but I felt good about having a simple rock solid little 400V non-eGMP car without issues as a 2nd car. ..guess what, by the time they delivered it I found out they managed to put an ICCU (that are failing since 2021) into a non-eGMP car in 2025. ..and they fail the same ways. So I feel tricked, as this was known as an eGMP issue up until then (I had a non-eGMP e-Niro before and it had no ICCU and no such issues) - and who would put a known failed design into a new model based on a different platform in 2025… At least now I can keep my Ioniq 5 beyond 5 years without worrying about resale issues.

Storm Dave has left us without power and has given us a chance to properly try out the V2L adapter capabilities on our Ioniq 5 (was an important part of our EV selection process 🙂).

So convenient to just plug and play, have a few extension cords powering some lamps across the house, ran the shower booster pump, OH used the hairdryer, tv and sat box running. Well chuffed!

Hi, does the 60k coolant change have to be done in a Hyundai dealer to keep the warranty? Can you get it done in an independent garage? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,497 ✭✭✭zg3409

In theory you could get it done elsewhere. If getting it done elsewhere I would go overboard on getting 100% proof it was performed to manufacturer specification and using exactly correct coolant with receipts from Hyundai for coolant. In practice it probably makes more sense to just ring a few Hyundai dealers for quotes. Prices varies by dealer often quite a lot.

Main issue is if you later have a big warranty claim they will use any excuse not to pay. Correct coolant is expensive non conductive type.

I paid €250 at a KIA main dealer in January to have the coolant chanced on my SOUL EV. Not sure if that is good or not but might be indicative of main dealer prices considering KIA and Hyundai are the same company. I did it for peace of mind and knowing that the change has been registered in the car's history if I ever have an issue and need a warranty claim.
