Norris, McInroy, Henry Francis, Wood and Jarvis all look like pretty quality imports to me.

Thought Shels were fairly good in the first half, seemed to have a game plan and executed it fairly well for about 40 mins anyway. But then Rovers started to get on top and really took control of the game, obviously Shels scoring a second made it a nervy finish but we never panicked and remained calm and in control overall. Pretty much every goal in that game came from a mistake.

Speel has had two fairly poor games against us now this season, is he a bit suspect usually? I'd have thought if you'd had Barrett and Casey fit you'd have been much more difficult to play against. We haven't quite reached the level of previous seasons yet and don't think we fully know our strongest team in certain areas - but good to see Burkey and Noonan have probably their best games of the season tonight.

Burkie comes out in the 57th minute to score his 100th goal. St Pats intrepid reporter.

No he just missed a few chances. Leavy and Browne were limping a bit at times and Leavy did come off but didn't necessarily look injury related.

Ya I just checked Flashscore there, they'd erroneously subbed Edmondson on and then off again after HT but fixed it then.

Shels were decent in Tallaght today, but Rovers had the better chances. Shels mistakes let Rovers capitalize for two of the goals. A few penalty shouts for Shels that I was worried would be given. They were 50/50 and could've changed the game if they were given. Overall, Rovers good value for 3 points....I wonder if Adam Brennan is injured? He's been really impressive so far this season and Rovers missed him today.

Stephen Kenny said post match that Leavys withdrawal was injury related. Said he couldn't carry on and complained about some of the treatment he had received. Said he thought one challenge merited a straight red card on his view. Cant recall it myself. No real complaints on the result. We had plenty of time left, even after their second goal, to get something from it, but weren't able. Agree about Arubi, he was very impressive.

Incredible how well Dundalk are doing considering they were just promoted. Have they added much to their squad or just continuing with what they had last year? Good to see a very competitive league so far.

Unfortunately Brennan picked up an injury while away with the Irish U-21s.

Think it was Dervan's lunge which I couldn't see fully but from player and bench reaction was a very nasty tackle . Leavy was kicked from pillar to post in the first half. 3 Dundalk yellow cards all for fouls on him. Horgan's was very cynical also but not injury causing.

Added lots of experience in Buckley, Cornwall, Kearns and Burns. Added to the young lads like Kenny and Arubi and the quality Horgan still has.

Dervin is a scummy little rat of a player. Injured Cunningham with a shocking tackle in his first game back against us after we let him go to Dundalk.

Scandalous defending/mistakes from Shels for all three Rovers goals. How was Lopes allowed to trot over to the back post totally unmarked?

We give away set piece goals in almost every game, but this was absolutely the most frustrating to watch.

New Shels 3rd kit is lovely. Fortunately rumours of it being a collab where not so.

nicest of the 3 jerseys this year imo.

Hard to know what to make of it all so far. Certainly have the players to challenge but players like Jarvis and Norris not near to where they were in previous stints. Kerr and Jack are both class players but playing too deep, sometimes behind back 4. Thankfully Harry is flying and is player of the season by a distance.

Losing Barret and Casey early on has to have a big impact so hoping they are back soon as Shels are easy to score against at the moment.

Bit early for Joey out (imo) but things need to improve. Galway on Friday is a tough game and is a big ask on current form.

Great news for Bohemians obviously but also good for the league in terms of showing a club can actually do well financially in the League of Ireland.

It's kind of a one off perfect storm in terms of merchandising. We won't be able to recreate that every season, the Fontaines and Oasis jerseys were huge sellers.

just find tenuous links to other acts and cash in, maybe the odd social issue too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,256 ✭✭✭eire4

Probably not but hopefully still able to make profits going forward. I imagine down the road the new stadium with increased capacity could help as well.

Huge drop off in commerical income in the intervening years, no bars, no pitch side advertising etc…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,357 ✭✭✭✭CSF

One of the issues for Jarvis and Norris would be that they’ve barely played the same position for more than 45 minutes at a time. Very few players are doing so because nothing is working.

We’re constantly changing systems from game to game and then again at HT when the previous changes haven’t worked and we need to chase from behind.

I haven’t seen much to suggest that Joey is up to it, and it’s not a situation like Kenny at Pats last season where you have a manager there who you know has the pedigree and is definitely capable.

Wondering if the new pitch at Oriel is any good, given its probably a new version of what's available?

Haven't heard any complaints about it so far?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,287 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

It’s rubbish. Ball bounces like it’s on concrete.

Dundalk didn’t go for the expensive option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭esker72

It looks much nicer than the old one in that it's green instead of grey but the bounce is just as bad. It'll be a big advantage to them though as their players will be a lot more used to the bounce. It also leaves the ball in the air just a split second more for them to smash into opposition players. Expect lots of injuries to arise on that pitch. It'll be a short term gain for their players but not many of Kenny's successful team didn't suffer damage by playing on the old surface and a few compounded it by heading to the Brandywell.

agree with most of that but who do you get in if Joey goes? He presided over some good football last year albeit with a team inherited and got third spot which was not looking likely for a while.
Massive coup getting Jarvis back and thought other recruitment was good.
I still regret that Mark Coyle was sold as there is a leadership vacuum there now.

I actually don’t know who I would want and it’s why I very much understand why the club haven’t already jumped the gun. It is a difficult situation to be in with a real absence of top level coaches within the league itself (Bradley and Kenny are the only 2 that are currently employed imo that fit this description).

If things keep on as they are and Joey still hasn’t a clue what team works (8 half time substitutions after 10 games is a ridiculously damning stat for the boss), then the club is going to take a chance on someone else and the most obvious names you will see linked with it are Russell (apparently who was going to get the job after Duff if it hadn’t been Joey, but clearly his stock isn’t that high right now), Kilduff (you’d just be sacking an inexperienced manager to go take a chance on another inexperienced manager), and Doherty (I think this hire would make me want to stop watching football nearly).

It’s a long shot (especially with his relationship with Joey), but club needs to make every possible attempt to get Duffer to reconsider after a year away.
