I take oral Fin at a dosage of 1.25mg Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I previously took 1mg daily. No side effects at either dosage and no sign of loss at the lower dosage. My brother used topical fin / min combo from minoxidilmax and I feel he has continued to lose hair albeit at a reduced rate. I guess if people are using fin it is a personal decision or even worth trying regimes to see which they respond best with.

Ethanol is elusive to actually find, apparently you can buy stupidly high strength alcohol called Spirytus?

I can get PG at the vape shop.

But I took the plunge earlier and dosed 1/6th of a 1 mg pill, orally.

Last time I tried this I got horrid throbbing of the 'nads.

So far, I feel just fine.

I still have all my hair, it's just thinning.

It would be amazing if I could get full thickness back.

I am using topical minoxidil at the moment but recently got a cat and it seems to be pretty much fatal if they ingest it, which is freaking me out.

I want to move to an oral solution. How are people getting oral minoxidil, Via their GP? I can get a prescription of oral fin from laya too so that's an option. Seems to have potentially severe side effects but might be worth a shot.

This is very good news, thanks for sharing.
Now there is no need to go to Dr Nel every couple of months to pay Eur 60 just to write the prescription.
Both fin and oral min can be obtained from Sons instead.

When I go onto Son I can't seem to find the option to buy just oral minoxidil? I can see packages with oral fin and minox only?

Anyone change over to dutasteride from finasteride and seeing better hair gains?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,042 ✭✭✭suave.4u

want to, but can't find Dut anywhere in ireland. Do you have any links?

AI to the rescue...seems perhaps hair clinics are better for the prescription than your doctor, though always worth a try...

Dutasteride is not licensed for hair loss in Ireland or the UK, but some dermatologists and hair clinics prescribe it off‑label for androgenetic alopecia.

Specialist dermatology clinics in Ireland explicitly mention dutasteride dosing for hair conditions, so arranging a consult with a dermatologist or dedicated hair clinic is often more effective than a routine GP for this indication.

Some Irish/EEA online doctor services focus on male hair loss; they may offer finasteride routinely and dutasteride only after specialist review, if at all.

At the end of the day, would people recommend turkey (if so where) or ireland (if so where)? I feel this is what everyone wants to know.

I would be grateful for any advice. I'm still trying to get my head around some of the hair transplant concepts. I'm at the moment going to go ahead with one. I know this might be stupid question. But can you get hair line, front of the head and crown both done together. Just talking to hair restoration agencies in Ireland. They mention crown or hairline. I'm just at the beginning of this process. I thought you could get both done. I was quoted 40000 euros for the crown. I know it might seem stupid question but could they do both. Do I need to two transplant for different parts of head. Also has anyone had dealing with Tir na Nog or the Beacon I would be so grateful for any tips or advice. I hope that makes sense. And it doesn't sound confused.

And what would people recommend hair line first or crown. If you only can do one. I would be Norwood 6. Fully bald at crown hair line well gone. Would hairline be best bet first not crown. Any advice, I would be so grateful.

I am hoping 40000 euro is a typo. I always assumed that the whole transplant could be done at once.

Usually a maximum safe number of grafts to extract in one case is up to 3,000 depending on the strength or the donor area. It sounds like in your case you would need at least 2 transplants. Medication may also be recommended to keep the remaining hairs etc. Main thing is to go for a few consultations as after going to a few, you should be in a position to understand everything and actually compare what each clinic is suggesting and even ask why for the different recommendations (if any). Hope this helps but be sure to take your time before deciding to move forward .

Thanks for the response. Would anyone have experience of beacon or Tir na Nog. If getting done twice, would it make sense to get hairline done before crown. Do most people get hairline done first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭Deadwards.com

I can't speak specifically about either clinic but usually most people will opt for the front first and crown later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,050 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

It's weird, the crown was more important to me. Always conscious of it when sitting at front of a bus or in cinema aware of who was looking at my bald pate, plus you had no idea how it looked unless you were carrying around a mini mirror. Not to mention the sunburn factor.

At least with the front you know how it looks and can disguise it 😆

you should probally do a year on the medication first, if not more.

Think Dr Tunde has left grow club - on instagram seems to have set up up her own hair transplant business.

Dr Tunde did my hair transplant just at the end of 2025 - still very early days mostly the crown so hard to say at this stage how successful it is. Dr Tunde seemed very good and professional and did all the extractions and insertions.

Dont think Grow Club are very professional though - got the impression they only wanted my money before the surgery and there is zero aftercare service - no follow up really (one call a couple of days after surgery) - nothing other than that which is really poor. They have removed Dr Tunde from their website so it seems they have no surgeons…

Hi BigProblem, sorry to hear this. If you'd like to PM me I can see what happened for you. Just to clarify, yes Dr Tünde, did leave very suddenly, I can't say anymore than that but we do have a new doctor here also dong great work.

thx man. Hope all goes well.
How was the recovery process. There is a no shave option from what I can see. When were you able to go out in public.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 274 ✭✭BigProblem

yeah i got the no shave option. Recovery was good, donor area has grown back well, id say day 10 you could go out in public depending on where you are getting the transplant - mine was mostly the crown so not noticeable at that stage, is Dr Tunde doing yours?

Has anyone done this here. Got transplant on front and mid part. And got smp on crown and back. Would that be common. I don't have hair for back and crown. I was wondering would smp be OK for back and crown. Any advice. I would be grateful.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭Deadwards.com

Have you any hair in the crown at all? If so, SMP can help but if it's completely gone, it may look too drastic a difference between the front an dmid scalp to the crown. Worth having some consultations to see. Also a few clinics can use beard grafts which tend to be distributed in the mid scalp and crown to increase th number of usable grafts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 Silke007

No hair on the crown. I wonder how smp looks in reality. How noticeable is it from the back. That's would be my concern with Smp.

I never heard of beard graft before. I have never grown a beard but if it means more grafts I would consider it. I'm guessing beard graft is hair from face from beard moved to head.

One clinic in Ireland has said it will do front and mid with circa 4000 hairs. From any research I have done that seems to about what you would need. But at times i find it hard to get proper reliable info on hair transplant. Im finding you can get so many different opinions. It's a bit confusing at times.

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

No, smp only works if you either shave head completely (in which case the smp looks like permanent baby hairs) or you have sufficient hair to cover the smp (in which case the smp looks like undergrowth).

Smp acts like a shadow effect to make overlapping hair look thicker.

Completely bald crown with smp beside full hair sections will make it just look like you have tattooed the crown, the illusion won't work.

Either shave the head (and then get smp) or get transplant on crown would be my advice. Third option of course is to grow hair long enough to tie up a pony tail to cover crown, but takes a while.
