I think we should look at Lacroix from Palace as another CB option for next season. He's had a fantastic season and recently been capped by France. Only 25, 6ft 3 and most importantly has proven himself in the PL. Leoni still unproven and VVD can't go on forever unfortunately.

There is a lot to be said for signing players who have proven themselves in the Premier League. We need people who can come in and make a difference straight away.

It's also why I'm going for Iraola in the summer. He knows what it takes, he plays a type of football fans will love and he's shown how adaptable he is when he loses players every season. He is ready for a big club.

He's out of contract in the summer too. Plus the Richard Hughes connection.

Are the people who were defending Slot still backing him for next season? We're getting worse as this season progresses.

There's zero evidence to show Slot will ever turn this around. I can't believe the board haven't acted as i do think as others have said that the rot has started to really take hold with the team.

Still can't believe this team won the league last season.

There was talk of Sensi from Bournemouth as well. He's available on a free.

I didn’t know he played that much, that’s really disappointing.

VVD would have been fine if Leoni didn’t injure himself or if we had bought some defenders.

He is able to cover for others that much anymore.

"Still can't believe this team won the league last season."

It didn't win the league. Klopp's team won managed by Slot. We had an awful lot of change in the summer for this team and it hasn't worked. Completely imbalanced team resulted.

There might be one person left in here that still supports Slot on the basis of must support him because it's Liverpool. They were labelled an "enabler" by another poster. Can't remember who exactly. Pretty much every one else has gone to full against him.

Home fans booing, away fans booing, online has had enough, I can't see how he survives. It's only a matter of when he goes. Now or end of season. Personally I wanted him gone months ago and that hasn't changed.

I'm Slots biggest critic at the moment but this is nonsense and lazy analysis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,811 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

I'm pretty sure he's saying Slot didn't get to add anyone to the team in his first year so it was technically Klopps team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,912 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Away fans booing is always a bad sign, almost always terminal. The likes of Joyce and others online who asleep usually follow close to the 'party line 'from the club are also seeing the writing on the wall, that tells me Arne is a gonner and it's only a matter of time.

Might not see the week out at this rate.

How is it analysis? There's no metrics or quantums. It's an opinion and a perfectly valid one, even if it differs from yours.

However, it is also factually correct, unless it (a) was an entirely different team to the one handed over by Klopp or (b) it was not managed by Slot. I think we can dismiss (b) and given that Chiesa (underused as he was) was the only first team addition, it was largely the team that Klopp left him minus Adrian, Thiago and Matip.

We aren’t going to win the CL, so this scenario will not come up.

I think you might be the only person left who thinks this is a possibility. 😅

Found it. It's a few days back but the person and their ilk were labelled an enabler. Started with calling them a superfan and got to there.

Exactly, we should but proven premier league players like Gordon, tonali, Anderson, etc like we should have gotten seymenyo and Marc guehi last summer instead of mostly unsuitable foreigners who take time to adapt to the demands

The people who were calling for Slot to be sacked way back, possibly before Christmas have ultimately proven to be correct in so far he is not up to the task of turning this around.

I'm still okay with the fact I wanted to give him as long as possible to turn it around. It might have been based more on hope than evidence in hindsight but I think he deserved time given what he achieved the previous season.

Things have spiralled downwards significantly in the last few weeks though. Some of the players need to have a look at themselves also. They got swept away by their own hype.

Dominik stunk the place out yesterday.

Shocking first half - I commented he was asleep - and as someone mentioned he didn't even break a sweat in the 2nd half.

He was the last player on the pitch who should have been engaging with the fans in that manner.

I've supported him as a possible future captain but he needs to mature a little bit more before that happens imo.

We bought the best striker and best LB in the Premier League last season

Liverpool manager first game of next season odds:

    Alonso 8/13

    Slot 15/8

    Others 10/1 +

I said it a few times during the season that if this was any other team I would be saying the manager has lost the dressing room. After yesterday performance, I genuinely think he has lost the dressing room now

That can be for a number of reasons some if not a lot of them outside his control but the players aren’t playing for the tactics he is training them for and his in game management which was one of his major strength last season is no longer there and that is on Slot himself.

Ultimately all we all want is for LFC to be the best iteration of itself. We can all agree on that.

For some supporters it was clear things weren't getting any better even during "the unbeaten run"; those people at the start were told to pipe down and (blindly) support the team.

For others like yourself there was optimism, and credit in the bank for last season and I can't but admire the glass half full approach, up to a point. It's probably the most measured approach after all.

However for some there is the attitude I laid out in the post Damien360 screenshotted. This group (including some influential people like TAW and Redmen) who in their quest for moral superiority will defend the indefensible, will engineer splits between local and online fans, will throw anyone under a bus (even a bona fide club legend) , and finally, when the tide of opinion is completely against them, without a hint of self-reflection will simply flip.

I'm a fan of Doms, but he can f*ck right out the door if this is going to be his carry on! Liverpool fans have been more than patient with these terrible inept performances.

    I absolutely despise that arrogance!

Season's all but over regardless but it feels like these last few weeks could grow very toxic, the whole club just feels like they're ready for summer and are willing to do the bare minimum for the remainder of the season.

We've got players quick to give up as soon as a match isn't going their way, coaches showing no new ideas or efforts to regain form, and backroom staff seemingly stagnant amid plenty of contracts expiring/going into their last year.

Even the away fans are sick of it and they're generally the most supportive of anyone.

Not only away fans booing but yesterday they walked out after an hour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭brevity

Redmen want him gone ages ago. TAW, a good few want him gone too. Even Robbo on The Last Challenge has had enough and he was fairly reasonable.

The higher ups won’t have much choice soon enough. I think Everton will be relishing this.

It really is absolute poetry that we have Everton away next.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 702 ✭✭✭Foreign Sports

I wonder what another loss in the league might do for fan sentiment.

Presumably the majority want something to change but I really can't see the heirarchy sanctioning an interim head coach.

It's not something LFC really do.

I thought we had PSG away next?

Or are we just going to not show and give them the 3-0 walkover rather than the 10-0 hiding they'll surely administer?

    League away he means.

I think the Fulham game at home on 11th and the Everton away on 19th are more important than the PSG games. If by some absolute miracle we somehow manage to get past PSG, I can't see us progressing on and on in CL. The league has to be number one priority.

Two things are going on with VVD.

Firstly, he's being asked to play every minute of everything at 34.

Secondly, he's being asked to defend, for long periods, in a way he just doesn't like doing. He is the best CB I've ever seen at managing large space, which is incredible when you're a high pressing machine of a team. He doesn't like chaos in the box as much. He can still do it, but it's not where he excels. There's too much chaos in the box under Slot, as we're happy to defend passively and often let teams come forward.
