I’d take Roy Hodgson instead of Slot.

Anyone, as long as the appointment isn't a sentimental one. Gerrard just isn't tested enough.

Carrick had an easy job to do at Man Utd. One game every 2 weeks, while his opponents played midweek before games, one competition and no pressure. Players with big points to prove. And to be fair the players were better than their performances suggested. The club is a Europa League club the last 5 years and after no European competition at all this year, CL is a bonus more than a necessity. If Carrick failed, it doesn't harm his career prospects, because it's his first PL job and the club was doing so badly, it could be written off as a player issue.

Just because Carrick walked into that, doesn't mean that all caretakers will walk into the same situation. Any potential Liverpool manager would have to manage multiple competitions, and a lot of pressure to steer Liverpool into the CL positions again and/or win the CL. CL is a necessity. Failure to get CL is a failure for the manager and a real damage to his reputation.

They are not comparable. Not everything had to be compared to Man Utd. Gerrard is a club legend as a player but has done nothing in his managerial career to earn the role of current Liverpool manager.

VVD horror show today too, a very big worry. Think that’s 4 penalties he’s given away this season..

We were looking the better team until they scored, they we vanished like a plastic bag thrown into an open fire .

There is not a single hint that anything is going to improve, and there hasn't been for most of the season. A glimmer of little more than a game, here or there

Rip the plaster off now. Thank him, begone, and we look forward.

Even bring Kenny back for the end of the season. Anything

How's my opinion looking now? Imagine actually believing the bookies never get anything wrong! 🤣 I bet you believe everything you read on the internet too!!

The bookies only gave us such good odds of winning at the Etihad to try to trick a few mouth breathers into throwing their money away on it, who would have bet on us with our real odds of less than 5%?

The funny thing is, Slot doesn’t want to play slow, pedestrian football. Yes, he likes to slow things down after the initial turnover and get his team set to build from there (which is the opposite philosophy to Klopp). But he’s not alone in that thinking; most of the top teams in Europe do something similar.

After that, Slot wants Liverpool to move the ball really quickly, like really fast. He’s spoken about this many times, and all you have to do is look at his Feyenoord team to see evidence of it.

To me, that’s the big problem. As you said, this team is moving the ball unbelievably slowly and looks pedestrian at times. So they’re either completely ignoring their manager’s instructions, or technically they’re not able to carry them out. I think, like most things, the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

But I think that will be the question asked of him come summer by the powers that be.

Humour is as necessary as it is absent here today.

To think PSG felt the need to get their league game postponed in order to prepare for this Liverpool team 😆

Szobo having an odd back and forth with the away fans after the game, he's done this a few times. Not sure how he's expecting them to react to these performances.

Since we are throwing out names to fill in on interim basis....Rafa? I literally couldn't care who, I think. Although possibly not Stevie.

Part of me would like to see iriola given a go but it would have to start well for him.

There really is no point keeping slot at this stage . I don't dislike him but I do dislike his football. I mean if I'm really honest bar a mo freak run of scoring and some positive momentum our football wasn't excilarating last year either. Even before party time.

For me, it's thank you, you did amazing for a bit and had and impossible man to replace but good luck.

It's been happening for almost a decade now so I don't know why anyone is still surprised when refs mysteriously have "bad games" when we play city. They know exactly what they're doing…ensuring their seat on the next private jet to the next private party out in the middle east somewhere…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭brevity

He doesn’t have the players to play that way imo.

Why they decided to go into the season with no real wingers is beyond me.

The Irish Poker Open is being streamed free on Youtube right now till Monday. It's helping me take my mind off it, and no I don't work for them…just happen to be watching it as I'm posting…

I said before today's humiliation that Slot should be gone in the summer but considering today's result and PSG to come midweek i think he should go now. He's shown no capacity to turn this around.

Baring a crazy confluence of events that meant we get past psg - this season is done. I don't see us getting top 5 under Slot and tbh we don't deserve to get it. The downfall is incredible and the fact the club refused to act in the transfer window in January is really coming home to roost now. Are we a little too "clever" with our transfers these days?

There's plenty of blame to go around but the buck stops with Slot as they say.

You piqued my interest. The bald dude looks very familiar. Do you know his name.

I remember watching Texas hold em on TV years ago after coming in from the pub. It wasn't live and was more exiting as you could see everyone's hand through the glass table. This just looks shifty !

If we win get CL place, and win CL would we still want Slot gone in summer..

That's a very hypothetical point. Don't think we will get 5th and not a hope in hell of winning it. At this stage I want him gone regardless. There is nothing to show he is the way forward for the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 189 ✭✭ozzy78

I personally would. I can't remember being this unenthused by Liverpool's performances throughout a whole season. Turgid football.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,912 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

    Performative bullsh1t.

You had 2 hours to do something to get the crowd involved, quit showboating now and looking for attention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,002 ✭✭✭mormank

You must mean Sorsky. Don't know him but he just had a little back and forth with the guy in seat 1. Was very funny and Sorsky did not come off well in the interchange.

And what do you mean it looks shifty? You can see their cards too.

P.s. sorry I know this is off topic and there is probably even a poker specific thread somewhere but this is the only thread I've interacted with on this site for almost 15 years now I'd say

It would be stunning if that happened. Let's say hypothetically it did.. I would be really disillusioned if we became one of those clubs that still sacks trophy winning managers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,912 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

    In my opinion no.

In no world,is 5th place in this league a success for Liverpool, regardless of the Cheat Code the ECL provides financially.

5th is mediocrity, the best of managers were sacked from smaller clubs than oira for 5th in the past, without having a 15 point headstart and given the dross produced from an entertainment POV.

Here's your hat Arne, thanks for your service....

I don't want to insult Slot, and that's where the buck stops, but the I've been saying for a long time that the whole backroom team, in terms of fitness, coaching, tactics, philosophy, and mental attitude and resilience looks so weak. Any setback, and the whole thing goes to ****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭RedCardKid

    Different question, lads…

Those signings this off-season, were they actually Arne Slot’s calls, or was he told to get on with what he was handed? Because right now, it feels like a bit of both and not in a good way. How many have clicked?

Has he been let down by the squad and the DOF?

Not saying he’s faultless, but some of the recruitment looked questionable from the start. And when your big players like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah aren’t hitting last season’s levels, it only makes things worse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,065 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    Absolutely.

Szobo is a good player but the fact he has been in our top 3 performers this season shows our problems imo.

He needs to buckle down now and not believe the hype

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,065 ✭✭✭✭noodler

    I don't think he is.

He shouldn't have played every minute of 45 games this season at his age having to deal with some dodgey Konate and Kerkez performances, no RB and a new keeper.

Probably still have him in our top 2 performers overall this season.

You don't always get credit for blocking 20 crosses in 3 games but everyone remembers the one that costs

He's either lying, incompetent or can't get the players onboard.

There's been no sign of that this season
