My old SIM was actually Meteor 😁 I didn't realise they'd stuck around long enough to do nano-SIMs.

I'd selected 10:30 on Wednesday morning to port the number… at 10:35 I got a "sorry you're leaving" email from eir (I'm not really leaving them, am I!) and at 10:36 the number ported over. 👍️

Everything OK apart from a slightly annoying problem - iPhones are fine but Android phones I text (RCS) are seeing the 085 number the SIM came with, not the 087 number I ported onto it. Even though I stuck the SIM into an iPhone and edited the number on the SIM (Androids can't do this) and Settings on my phone now shows the correct 087 number. And I've gone through every possible setting in Google account and phone settings

I've ordered a free replacement SIM because… well why not? It'll either fix this, or not.

Like any other mobile provider it depends on your location, signal strength, coverage, proximity to a mast, etc. Other factors include the building you're in - at home I have incredibly bad performance indoors, but as soon as i step outside it just shoots up, and that happens with all providers and is entirely on the building. It doesn't seem that's the case for you though.

GoMo use a different network (Eir) to Clear (Vodafone). You may be in a coverage blackspot for them. You may also get completely different results again on the Three network.

You should be able to go back to Clear via the standard provider switching method, but you may still be liable for the first month of GoMo, unless the statutory cooling-down period applies; I don't know if so.

No, again like with Clear, the first month is an activation charge so it won't be refunded.

Up to 120 Mbps this morning with GoMo.

I assume this is relative to congestion depending on the time of day.

Or could be just randomly variable.

All networks are same but I found it particularly acute with gomo. 1000 in one spot, barely 1 in another spot and you'd have full 5g bars

I think in my area speeds with GoMo are as another commenter emphasised, based on congestion.

Early this morning I'm getting 160 Mbps.

Literally as the morning moves on and people are logging on to use their internet, the speeds steadily decrease.

90 Mbps, 60, 30, all the way down to 10 Mbps as of yesterday evening.

Anyone who's been with Clear, discontinued, then went back, is that straight forward to do?

Someone mentioned you have to re-register with a different e-mail?

I'd the very same with a physical SIM, but switching to an eSIM fixed it and I've now got the correct number everywhere. My best guess is that the other number is somehow hardwired/encoded into the physical SIM in a way that can't be changed, but the correct number worked for everything else so I didn't stress too much over it.

I don't see why you'd need to re-register unless Clear have somehow messed-up their processes. The standard provider change method - order a SIM, provide your details, select the option to keep your old number, wait for the SIM to arrive, swap it out, wait a short while for the changeover to happen - should be no different.

The only thing to watch out for is that if you took an eSIM from GoMo you'll need to delete it first via your phone settings before popping in the new SIM.

My home broadband is on the blink in a very weird way. Some things are working but strangely I can't stream music, internet radio etc. I've an engineer callout scheduled for next week but was thinking of getting a SIM to put in a spare phone to use as a hotspot in the meantime.

Currently using Clear and very impressed - could I get a second sim from them and cancel pretty much immediately so I only pay for a month?

Or which would be the quickest way to get 5G up and running quickly and not involve a contract?

You could get a prepay SIM from Three, eir or Vodafone with an unlimited 5G data plan for €20pm on each of them, you could just top up the SIM when you need the plan for that month.

48 (Three) is also an option as it's prepay you wouldn't have to cancel the SIM, just turn off the auto renewal every month and only buy the plan when needed. It's €9.99pm currently for 6 months but there is a €9.99 activation charge.

You could get a 4G/5G router from CeX, Amazon etc. If you wanted to run this more permanently.

Thanks. I might just grab a SIM from Vodafone as I know the coverage is really good in the house and there's a shop near me. Hopefully it's only for a week but I'll have a look at routers as a backup.

Currently on 3 PAYG all you can eat data for €20 per month and does me well as mainly use Data few calls. So always seem to have unused cr on phone. However 3 advised that cr balance expiry terms are changing and any pur cr activated on or after May 13 will now expire after 100day s and not 180 days. Got mail this morning say €17 eur will expire on Apr 12 ??

So whats best pay as you go or otherwise offers that use mainly for Data and ok when travelling mainly to UK and Europe

    Who's got the cheapest SIM?
Doesnt need data, just receiving SMS really.
Doesnt need to last a whole month….

You can just get a prepay SIM from Vodafone, eir or Three. Just top it up every 5 or so months to keep it active.

None of the plans let you keep the plan fee as credit, so you might want to stay put but if you want to switch here are some options -

Clear Mobile (Vodafone) - €12.99pm, unlimited 5G data, unlimited mins & 10k texts, 23GB EU roaming data, Bill-pay (€30 out of plan cap)

    GoMo (eir) - €14.99pm, unlimited 5G data, 45k mins & 10k texts, 23GB EU roaming data, Bill-pay (€30 out of plan cap)

48 (Three) - €9.99pm for 6m (€12.99pm thereafter), unlimited 5G data, 5k mins & 5k texts, 20GB EU roaming data, no WiFi Calling or VoLTE so no mobile data when on call, Prepay

Tesco (Three) - €15pm with Clubcard, unlimited 5G data, 1k mins & 1k texts, 29.56GB EU roaming data, 100 International mins, no WiFi Calling or VoLTE, Prepay

If you get a free sim card from 48 you can use it (without buying a plan) to port your Clear number to before the end of the month. Your contract will end on the day of the port.

No interest in porting as I want to stay on the VF network as I know it's very good indoors which is where I need it for the next week.

Picked up a VF sim this morning and topped up so I've got that running off a spare phone. Strangely, they didn't even ask my name, never mind look for ID etc.

They don't for PAYG as there's no contract and they get their money in advance.

Sorry, my post wasn't clear - I was referring to terminating a one month contract without notice, if you were to get a 2nd Clear Mobile sim.
