There’s nothing quite like The Masters to get the golfing juices flowing. Watching the drama unfold at Augusta National Golf Club has us all convinced we can pull off the same shots at least for a few holes. And if you’re going to give it a go anywhere, there’s no better stage than Concra Wood Golf Club, with its stunning views and holes that demand every club in the bag

It has been approximately 17 years since I last played the course, shortly after it opened, and as an admirer of Christy O'Connor Jr.’s course designs, it was always one I was keen to experience. It certainly lived up to expectations then and, by all accounts, has only improved with maturity. It remains, in my view, one of the finest parkland courses in the country a view supported by Kevin Markham’s rating of 95, among his highest for a parkland layout.
Given the course’s length and undulating terrain, buggies are advised and available for those who wish to avail of them. So to guarantee there availability we will need to let them know number of carts required a week out. At present, their use is restricted to cart paths; however, we are hopeful that conditions will allow for full access to fairways by the time of our outing.

With fuel costs an ongoing consideration, car sharing is encouraged where possible to help ease the burden. I myself will be travelling from the Kildare area and can gladly accommodate two passengers.

    Green Fee: €60
    Buggy: €15 (sharing)
    Booking:
ClubNet booking opens Monday 6th at 6:00pm.

I played there for the first time in September. It is a fantastic course and will be worth the trip for anybody who hasn't played it before.

There are plenty of holes that offer a decent chance of par or birdie but will also punish a wild shot. I count 10 holes with water in play.

I will say that buggys would not be necessary for the majority of the group. Maybe 5 or 6 holes play uphill. The walk from the pro shop to the 1st tee is probably the toughest section!

Beware that the steepest slope is on the downhill 10th. It is a bit dangerous if the ground is any bit muddy or slippy.

Thanks @paulos53, always good to get an well informed view. I think I’ve played it three times in total and walked it each time but I was a much younger man back then😁.
Personally, I’m not a fan of being in a buggy if you’re restricted to the paths. The last time we had that was in McCreddin, and if anything it made it harder than just walking.
I’ve heard a few lads mention some of the climbs in New Forest, so I thought it was worth giving everyone a heads-up in advance.

Did you not win there or well placed in some Open competition about 7 years ago @tigerwood1 .

Sorry if I let the pussy out of the sack but in the interest of full disclosure in case you are playing for a fiver😄

Of course I could be doting.

Maybe it was the other Tiger — easy mistake to make 😄
One thing I do know for sure… I’ll have no problem taking that fiver off you in Gowran.🤣

    Enjoy lads.

One of the rare occasions I can't make an outing.

Definitely one of our Captain's favorites.

He wanted us to take a detour just for a drive thru on a trip north last year and sulked in the back of the car when he was out voted.

Jaysus hit a broken man while he is down and then try to pick his pocket 😂

I like Tiger played Concra when it only just opened. I don't remember an awful lot about it to be honest except a few great holes around the lakes and coming away thinking that it was a really great day out. Looking forward to making a return visit

I was excited when I saw Concra on the schedule, but unfortunately this is the only outing I can’t make this year because I’m away. ☹️

looking forward to this 1 as Tiger has been raving about this for a long time. Although a lengthy spin for me it gives me a great excuse if I don’t feature 😒

This and Bunclody were probably the two I was most excited to see on the list when the itinerary came out at the start of the year. It must simply be from the top 100 lists and Kevin Markham's book, because otherwise I don't know a whole lot about them. But whatever the reason, the excitement is real!

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Well, I am back in the country and renewed my subs, looking forward to my first outing of the year even if my golf is non existent. See you on Saturday

Between the wettest start to the year on record and now a fuel crisis… what’s next, an earthquake? 😁
We’ve 20 down to play so far. If you’re thinking of joining, can you please get your name on the timesheet ASAP? I need to confirm numbers with the club in the morning.
Also, let me know if you’ll need a buggy and I’ll put a few on hold.
Fuel-wise, we haven’t been too badly affected around here, but I know some areas are struggling. Hopefully things settle back to normal by the end of the week.

Personally I’d rather walk so feel free to move me to a group that suits.
I’ll be driving so if anyone on my way fancies a lift just let me know - coming from South Dublin/Stillorgan area.
