In additional news on Generals being purged, another 2 out the door.

Wouldn't disagree with Macron's stance on this - seems common sense to block it (the alternative would be carnage in the Strait).

No. One rule for me, another rule for thee. Donnie can talk openly about bombing another country back to the stone age, where they belong, while cribbing about the other side being "unfair" and uniquely evil. He can along with his buddy assassinate those involved in peace talks. It's going to be a long time before we hear about a rules based order again

I'd love to see a cost estimate disparity between Iran and US. Do we think 10:1?

Iran and China are allies. Just like Iran and Russia, Iran and North Korea etc. It's unlikely China had to "do a deal" with them.

Russians China and India have free passage through the straits this will allow these countries to buy cheap and profit on resale keeping oil and won't use the dollar.

To be clear, the proposal to allow militaries to force the strait is still being voted on tomorrow, the language got toned down a bit to only authorise defensive operations. In practice, I don't see that being much of an issue: The US is doing plenty of the offensive stuff on its own.

US warns Albania about Iranian threats to US and US affiliated assets on its soil and Iranian dissidents there. Also Bulgaria says it received a diplomatic note from Iran last month about US military use of its airports.

My recollection is Christiane Amanpour would show up as a reporter in a country and before long there would be a war there involving US... Someone or back channels knew to send her to an emerging international crisis - she became a recognised bellwether.

I wonder what Israel has in its dossier on Trump. Israel has undue interference in foreign countries... Did Putin share Trump’s files with Netanyahu?

Getting rid of generals like that would usually indicate a couple/plot that didn't align with policy.Maybe they just didn't enjoy murder enough for their superiors, either way they are lucky to be out of it,I don't think history will remember this kindly.

They will be replaced with generals more aligned to the Trump cause of bombing Iran into the stone age.

The use of nuclear weapons gets that bit closer

Looks like they have a yes man. This is going to be serious stuff heading our way if they escalate further and for the region as a whole, which is bad enough as it is.

Edit: Some of the firings today seem as part of a factional feud with Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll, seen as close to Vance and Silicon Valley. Hegseth has already fired people he suspects of leaking. Not sure if its related to leaking. It may be that he needs scapegoats for the mess the Iran war has turned into.

There have been rumours Trump is annoyed with Vance over his reportedly more cautious stance on the Iran War. This might be part of that.

    Disgraceful.

The US are just barbarians in the present day. What is the justification of rationale for this? Serves no apparent military objective and surely killed many civilians.

Taking the US out of a multilateral agreement Iran was abiding by, the '11 day war' surprise attack during negotiations, and then this 'special military operation' attack during further negotiations. All following the US support for and arming of Israel for their genocide of Gaza.

Trump calling his allies 'cowards' for not getting involved in his wild, poorly thought out, and illegal war.

Trump, Hegseth etc. should be sanctioned by the ICC now, in addition to Netanyahu, and Putin. Criminals all.

I wonder do Iran have the capacity to accurately target specific infrastructure in Saudi etc. if they are to match the Yanks 'bridge for bridge'..

Meanwhile, the democracies of the West, including Ireland, will have to deal with America and pretend it’s just like them.

The bridge for bridge strategy only shows that Iran is up against a despot. Any parley today would be forgotten tomorrow.

Don't be surprised if there's an attack on US infrastructure back in the US. Even if only symbolic in nature it would send a message to the American people.

Looking at some of the videos on the latest strikes on Tel Aviv, don’t see any signs of interceptors.

The Israeli regime must be running low now.

Well no, he was the last senior Biden appointee there and it's surprising he wasn't already gone. I see a couple more are being shipped out also. Only MAGA acolytes need apply.

On the issue of there being mass US deaths, it seems unlikely that this could be obscured for more than a few days, not least as it would be reported by some MAGA outlets who are less than enthusiastic about the war. More likely they're just cowering in bunkers.

I had been thinking that Trump opened the door to a lot of blowback from Iran, but they also know that he's vain and is more likely to simply move on to Cuba once he gets tired of it all. He's already lining up his fallguys for the chop so he can absolve himself of all blame.

Iran's bigger long term threat is Israel, so that's where they're long term strategy will be aimed at. Hitting domestic targets in the USA would only help Trump.

Don't think they have the capacity to do that in any serious way…

Some Iranians support the war despite the destruction of the bridge this morning. They seem to oppose the regime though, at least those who spoke to BBC Persian.

………..All of those who spoke to BBC Persian from inside Iran were against the current establishment.

A woman in her 20s in Tehran expressed deep concern about the attack on a bridge in Karaj and what might be targeted next. She started crying midway through the voice message.

"I feel helpless. [Trump] posts shamelessly about attacking our bridge. I don't know how much further this is going to go," she said.

"Why is no-one standing up to him? He's really taking us back to the Stone Age."

A Tehran resident in his 20s said: "We'll end up with a ruined country. I am more disappointed and saddened that I am in the middle of a situation where I see Iran being destroyed and I can't do anything. My country is being destroyed more and more every day."

The strike on the bridge in Karaj also worried one local resident who described himself as "pro-war".

"That bridge could have reduced the traffic in the city... it was destroyed in the second strike. This strike has got me worried. I don't know why they hit it," said the man in his 20s.

A woman in her 40s in Tehran, who also supports the US-Israeli military campaign, said: "I was really surprised that they hit a bridge… but I think they must have a reason for it."……….

A reminder that all sides in this war are murderous fascists.

‘Everyone is thinking about oil prices’: is Iran using the war to hide a surge in executions? | Iran | The Guardian

…….concerns that a surge in executions is taking place in Iran and has been “overshadowed” by the US-Israeli war on Iran. At least 145 people are confirmed to have been killed in 2026 so far, with an additional 400-plus executions reported but not verified, according to Iran Human Rights…..

……..Danial Niazi’s mother found out on 20 February that her 18-year-old son would face trial in 10 days’ time, according to Kurdpa, a Kurdish news agency and human rights organisation. With the internet still down, it remains unclear whether this has happened.

According to a copy of his indictment seen by the Guardian, Niazi, a member of the Kurdish minority, has been charged with moharebeh as well as attempted murder, intentional assault, assembly and collusion against national security, disrupting public order, and propaganda against the state.

Awin Mostafazadeh, a spokesperson for Kurdpa, says: “When his mother saw him in prison, his face was bruised and swollen. He had been beaten so badly he could not walk and relied on other prisoners to reach the visiting booth. They told him they would arrest his mother and rape her in front of him, and detain and torture his brother.”….

….There were at least 1,639 executions in 2025, compared with 975 in 2024, according to the UN special rapporteur for human rights in Iran, while civil society organisations have said there were actually more than 2,000 executions last year. Such differences in figures are unsurprising, according to the UN, as only 7% of executions were announced by official sources.

Perhaps the President should be sending an 'open letter' to his own people when he's at it?
