It could happen. No reason not to. Except maybe that nobody would pay to watch it and the studio would lose a fortune.

    A lady spy? sure.

    Jane Bond, no.

Even an 18's rated lesbian Jane Bond would still probably fail.

I wish for a nice change Hollywood, TV and other media hacks would - and bear with me folks, mad crazy thought alert here - write new iconic characters for women, rather than take an existing male role and jam a woman into it in some first year college level hail mary attempt to be "diverse" and "right on". Though much of it is to get column inches and widen up a market demographic.

I must say, “to get column inches and widen up” is verrrrry Connery!

    :D

Not sure it be received well even if good idea. Words like woke, feminism, libertards will be thrown about and campaign to boycott then you will have the disaster of the companies and actors trying to defend it and making a total dogs dinner of it
Which is exactly what happened with the female Ghostbusters.

Well yes that had also the added factor (I think I am not wrong) that the original movies had a plan of female Ghostbusters.

I don't see why they couldn't really, but given that 007 and the James Bond moniker is supposed to be a front for various agents, would make sense to keep it male and create some class of spin-off like 006, or 008, or whatever.

Ultimately I really wouldn't care what they do.

So I guess you wouldn’t be that open then to a trans-gender Bond who identifies as male female at different times throughout the film? :D

James Bond is actually his name. He regularly discards the alias' provided by MI6.

Why not? I can think of several leading actresses who would make a great “Jane” Bond.

And why not a gay James Bond?

But Eon Productions would never allow it.

Becusse it'll be an insult to retcon someone to fit an agenda. Create a character that fits the desire instead of trying to fit one that's already present into it.

I have allways thought and I maybe wrong that James Bond is an allias and not there real names. What was his parents name is Skyfall. But I agree with the OP if you want a female spy give there own film I think they were hoping to do that with Halle Berrys character and have her the American equilivant.

It's been done in comics since the 1960's Batman to batwoman and batgirl. Captain America to Captain Marvel even a female Thor

Not sure it be received well even if good idea. Words like woke, feminism, libertards will be thrown about and campaign to boycott then you will have the disaster of the companies and actors trying to defend it and making a total dogs dinner of it

But they are not women replacing men. They are women existing alongside men with women's motives and issues.

Bruce wayne didn't become Kathleen wayne to make batwoman/bat girl.

They could bring out a female spiderman film, there,s loads of female
super hero.s in the marvel universe,
A female spider hero film would not have the same tone or impact as the standard
spiderman film even if the script was great
and the actress was brilliant in it.
I do,nt think it would be as popular as the other spiderman film,s .
i have no problem with strong female characters in action films,.
i think linda hamilton was great in the terminator movies .
I Think james bond is an iconic male character .
i do,nt think you can just put a female into the role and expect the
    same result.
it might be a great film and be very entertaining and action packed .
The original ghost in the shell movie.
or battle angel alita are examples of action movies where the main character is female strong and she drives the plot forward
without trying to be politically correct.

If theres a jane bond film i do not think it will be as successful in terms of box office returns as the previous film,
but it could still be a very entertaining film if they have a good
cast and a good script .

A female or gay secret agent - absolutely; bring it on. But new characters - not as Bond. Ian Fleming created Bond as a heterosexual man.
"My dear girl, there are some things that just aren't done; such as drinking Dom Perignon '53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That's as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs”.

Bond is a playboy. He hob-nobs with the rich and powerful.

Someone who can't blend seamlessly into the old boys club wouldn't be the same character or be able to take the same missions.

Apart from Hank Scorpio movie supervillains aren't politically correct.

East, West - just points of the compass, each as stupid as the other.

I went to a country wedding once and on the way home, my girlfriend's stepfather played Bond themes all the way home, from Donegal to Dublin, giving us the history of the film during every song.

I held my breath hoping to pass out, but to no avail. Bond fans should be rounded up and electrocuted to death.

When Lara Croft is played by Idris Elba, then yes; Bond could be female.

    Talking about 'of its time'...

    https://www.attitude.co.uk/culture/itv-trans-queen-elizabeth-i-reimagined-period-drama-518784/

ITV has released a casting call for its next period drama, inviting trans actors to apply for the role of Queen Elizabeth I in Majesty.

Described as an alternate-history take on British royal history, the series will focus on young Queen Elizabeth I during the reign of her father, King Henry VIII, in the 1500s.

Female 007 will do for Bond franchise what Dylan Mulvaney did for Budlight

I think the role is done, the character is over, the franchise jaded in my opion. Other action franchises from the early 2000s took over. Jason Bourne and the like fulfil the "Action man" role, and wasn't Bond killed off anyway ?

James Bond is well past his sell-by date.

Bond was a 1950s Cold War creation of Ian Fleming and if you actually read Fleming's books, the character was a rather vile racist, misogynistic and imperialist English playboy who treated women very badly.

In one of his books, Fleming writes about Bond having sex so rough that it "has a tang of rape." This sort of character is simply unacceptable in this day and age. Remember, the 1950s were 70 years ago now.

This was all watered down for the highly successful film franchise that lasted decades, but Bond should have been retired in the 1990s when the Cold war was over, IMO.

Bond does not belong in the 21st century at all.

anyone can be 007, it just happened it was James Bond.

Could be Alastair McTavish or Steve Maguire or Stephanie Zhang.

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

I think it's more likely we have a number of James bond movies to come and no more Jason Bourne ones. The other action characters are just too entwined with their respective actors outside of the superhero versions and Bond.

It's a pity Idris is too old at this stage, would've made a great Bond

I don't think anyone cares but well making a character female should be done from the beginning. The franchise is done to fit a male character a female spy would have diff challenges a diff history.

It would bad writing and not do a female character justice.

Bond has a certain audience they are stuck with and would end up alienating and I dont think a half drawn female character would really draw a new audience. Not because a female spy can't be interesting but well you just can't draw from the franchise and character of a man to make a woman. Its not Adam's rib time here.

Also there is no need to. If you want a female spy do research on female spies and write something from scratch.

Although I am tired of the Good Old British Empires and Aunty's PR machine that is most of what is written about MI5 and the British army. They are no heroes. They are often war criminals and tbh not the brightest. Its less James Bond more Austen Powers in my mind.

So my answer respectfully is no.

To be honest James Bond is written as an upper class English white guy who is a bit self obsessive and beyond being able to run fast/shoot straight and seduce women has no real life skills.

A black James Bond would have to have learned six languages have a PHD in chemistry and be a doctor .. and know kungfu moves that only monks know to reach the same level in MI5 and they would still talk down to him.

Either it would be unbelievable or well written and if it were well written Bond fans would say it was gone woke.

Idris Elba can do better than Bond. Also its Samuel L Jackson

    He is the one.

He would make all other James Bonds look silly.
