There are about 30 of us vying for 2 chargers, and I always end up with the same one, so I will try for the other. The other cars are almost all Teslas and Audis, with one Outlander, and I think that's a type 1, so I will try that cable too if available. The 12v is only 3 months old and showing a resting voltage of ~12.7v

I was about to replace a SIM card in my 2016 Leaf today. However, a Telematics Box manufactured in 2018 is somehow

installed in the car with a mff2 embedded esim that can't be swapped out. See the picture.

There are visible differences between the two units. Sim replaceable contain a small lid and a screw covering the SIM. The Esim is a uniform box with 2 clips on all 4 sides.

Hopefully this comes handy sparing anyone else's time.

You can remove the eSim and add a card holder with some minimal soldering the pads are to the right of the eSim in your pic.

If there is an eSim it should be possible to change the network operator on it without too much hassle

Just to circle back on this it is the Zappi at fault, or maybe I broke it! It's refusing to release any cable now unless restarted.

First frosty morning without the ability to remotely start heating in the car. Sad times!

if a post annoys you, you know you don’t HAVE to reply. I know I have an onboard timer. Direct control from the app is handier. Still sad times!

On demand direct control from the app is far far handier alright.

I'll miss the remote heating alright. I'd only use it if I looked out the window and saw frost on the windscreen, so the onboard timer is of no use to me. Having said that, it's been the most frost-free winter of my lifetime and I've only used the remote heating maybe three times all season. I definitely wouldn't be paying money or soldering pcb's for a workaround.

I have a different EV with no car app. I have preheating timed for 7am. Car wakes at 06:30 and defrosts. If I do not want it to preheat I can set the charger in its app to stop charging at 06:30 so the car will not get power at that time and with my EV if not connected to a powered on charger it will not preheat. Its a bit of a work around and you need to update the charger timed settings the night before, but at least you don't need to go out to the car and start messing with options if you expect it to be a frosty morning. Now I typically preheat every weekday morning for the commute, but I can never touch the setting in the car and enable it disable using the home charger app times. Similar might be possible on a leaf, not ideal but not terrible. My ICE diesel was covered in ICE this week!

I’m exactly the same. Look out the window for frost on the windscreen on the way down the stairs.

I told myself I’d put as little money into the Leaf as possible when I bought it, so dropping hundreds on a workaround isn’t something I’m jumping at. I hate losing a standard feature though at the same time. I’m going to wait and see, it’s not a priority coming into better weather that’s for sure.

(sorry replies aren’t linking on my phone for some reason).

If there is a Leaf owners group or club, would it be worth tackling this with Nissan directly. As I understand they’ve effectively just taken away a standard feature that came with the car ?

The chatter recently about the app dying was for the original Leaf, right? The app is suddenly not connecting for me (221) for the first time which seems like weird timing. I hadn't opened it in 2-3 weeks but turning on the car doesn't seem to have resolved the connection issue. Any ideas?
