    Exactly.

Treated him like shite? Maybe at the very very end but for years they treated him like a king, paying him vast sums of money for very little ability.

They never overpaid him from what was in his contract.

    A great presenter.

    No I won't I won't :) but you catch my drift.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

The highlight of yesterday's show was Ray being shocked at the cost of ordering Ray D'Arcy Bobble Heads from the UK, perfect for Big Red Mike prizes thought Ray. At 80+ odd quid stg each for a quantity of 200, it blew Raymond's mind and budget. He probably forgot to add Brexit tax on top! You could hear Jenny thinking 'Why would you even be ordering them from the UK'...

Ladies and Gents, if you have Ray D'Arcy Bobble Head keep it safe, it is worth it's weight in gold.

'I don't understand how anybody could say that I was given forewarning as in years, months in advance.'

Other than explicitly state his contract wasn't going to be renewed I don't know what Ray thinks RTE should have done.

In typical Ray cock-up fashion, his official Bobblehead looks more like the disgraced former Duke of York, Prince Andrew than him.

If he needs to tighten his purse strings, there are custom Bobbleheads on Etsy starting from €11.25.

It's a bit weird at times he seems to not have a care in the world for what should be a secret and what should be broadcast.

I'm talking about the sandwich he likes which he spent about 10 minutes discussing. He tried to recreate a sandwich from a café and when he met the owner the owner gave him the secret which he goes on to share with listeners.

I wouldn't be sharing too much with him.

In fairness didn't Collins and Fanning have the Gold gigs too and soon gave them them up.Mightn't have been that Cushy or enjoyable sharing the same building with influencer types of 2fm on national radio while your in the broom cupboard that is RTE gold.

I have not read many of the posts here but a few thoughts on Ray. I never was a fan and I did not think much at all of him as a broadcaster. I thought his radio programme was just dreadful. But most of all I always thought how in the name of God was he getting paid so much money for such nonsense.

Now he has a podcast out. I just happened to see a line I saw in a newspaper about him interviewing Paudi from Dancing with the Stars. I thought to myself it would have typically been the fare had he been on RTE radio. So he is doing the same thing basically. Nonsense stuff.

But I am kind of interested in how he is doing in the podcast stakes. They are ten a penny I believe. Without the resources that RTE offered him , how is he doing? Are there any ratings for podcasts? How can people know if a podcast is doing well? Surely if there is advertisements, sponsors would need to know.

Imagine if he was trailing in behind some non-entity. Wouldn't that underline the fact that so many broadcasters are popular not because of their own worth but simply because the station the are on eg RTE dominates the airwaves?

What are the numbers like for his radio slot after he left? A huge fall off?

AFAIK, When a radio station changes schedule, especially an new schedule with different start/finish times of shows, it takes a few Jnlr "books" i.e 9/12 months to paint an accurate picture.

Ronan collins quit Gold but Fanning is still there. There is no dignity in going to Gold, it has no ads or sponsorship so isn't in the jnlrs, so nobody knows or cares how many people are listening. Fanning does 6 days a week so gets 60k a year, it seems that he needs the money.

27 Subscribers on Acast. I assume he has a few more on Apple and Spotify.

    Subscribers doesnt necessarily mean listeners.

People could subscribe and never listen again.

Other way around as well. I listen but I haven't subscribed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,072 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

So you're saying he might actually have more than 27 listeners?

could well be into the 30s!

I don’t really listen to pod casts so don’t know how this really shakes up but my understanding is there’s no music? I would find it hard to listen to any radio dj for an hour even the ones I like. I don’t see why someone would go to this to listen. An hour of someone giving their opinions on stuff and presumably occasionally talking to someone is very long.

Talk radio is probably the most popular going. Radio 1 and Newstalk are all talk for 15/16 hours per day. LBC are 24 hours talk split into three hour shifts even though their graveyard shift presenters are completely inept and still have an audience. It's the only type of radio I really listen to.

I do agree and I've mentioned it previously that Darcy should have an upcoming singer-songwriter on for a few minutes just to break up the show.

Like yourself, this is the first podcast I've listened to. I don't like the podcast idea in general as everything can be recorded and edited. Nothing can replace live talk radio as far as I'm concerned.

I do listen to podcasts on journeys to and from work, 1 hour each way, politics and Australian sport, in each of them there are 2 podcasters, so it’s chatty.

It D’Arcys case it’s just him and his rambling thoughts, I gave him 10 minutes and that was enough
