Cost Rental - Airton Rd in Tallaght

    Hi,

I have been successful in the lottery for a Cost Rental apartment with Respond for their new development on Airton Rd Tallaght. I haven't got an offer yet though as they are still checking my documents (it's been going on for months now as I am very borderline on the income limits). However, I believe you only get a few days to make a decision after the offer so I want to be prepped. I have a couple of questions for people:

    1. If you are a cost rental tenant with Respond or any other AHB, how has the experience been for you? Any insights? Do you regret it or love it?
    2. If you live in the area, would you recommend it as somewhere to live and raise a kid? I know Tallaght has a bad rep but my experience is that sometimes these things can be limited to hotspots or certain estates. Would there be much anti-social behaviour around Airton Rd?

    Cheers

I can't comment on the cost rental part, but Tallaght is absolutely huge so to say the entire place has a bad rep is completely bonkers. As it is, Airton Road is closer to Greenhills than it is to most of "Tallaght" as people tend to think of it, and I'd have absolutely no issues living there myself. There are only a few pockets of Tallaght left at this stage that I'd consider genuinely rough and they're all a bit further out towards the old Blessington Road. Anywhere around the original Village, Kilnamanagh, Airton etc. is all absolutely fine.

    I can answer question 2.

    I work in the area.

Airton road and the surrounding area is an industrial area that is slowly being turned into residential. The area is fine, quiet even.
Most of that side of Tallaght is fine. Gladly raise a family there. I would go as far to say that the only anti social behaviour will come from, is the new developments. Don't worry about the Tallaght name. Do your homework on the developments.
