BBC Announce New Radio 2 Breakfast Show Presenter

As suddenly as it announced the departure of Scott Mills from the hot seat, the BBC have this morning announced his replacement as the host of its flagship Radio 2 Breakfast Show.

Veteran Irish broadcaster Ian Dempsey will be behind the mic from next Tuesday and is expected to broadcast from London 3 days per week with a remote broadcast from Dublin on Mondays and Fridays. It is rumoured that Dempsey will be paid £280,000 down from the £335,000 commanded by his predecessor however this is likely due to a combination of BBC cost cutting and less name recognition in the competitive UK radio market.

Ian let nothing slip earlier signing off from his long running Today FM breakfast show as usual however it has been confirmed that he has resigned from the station with immediate effect and it’s not yet clear who his replacement will be or, indeed, who will cover the morning show in the interim.

When asked for comment Ian said that he was excited to follow in the footsteps of legendary Irish broadcasters at the BBC including Sir Terry Wogan, Eamon Andrew’s and, of course, Graham Norton. Helen Thomas, controller of radio at the BBC welcomed Ian and said the BBC was looking forward to working with another legend of Irish Broadcasting.
