I think they would have as well. Not sure how they didn’t win tonight they were streets ahead of their opponent.

No Ireland or Italy for the "my great grandpappy" crowd to get behind.

I think ' Czechia ár lá ' will be their chant at WC '26. Delighted for them.

There is an art to it to do enough to niggle but not to get booked. Clever smart fouling not like Manning tugging a jersey in the box when there is no need to.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

This is like the crap you hear in club football all the time.

Wolves beat City and City beat Liverpool therefore Wolves are better than Liverpool.

Tough watch but my family enjoyed the night out. Think we see some quality passages of play at times that is promising.

Dissapointed with the fan who ran on the pitch, allowed himself to be caught way too quickly.

Ireland need to get better at the snide

Teams get away with it at international level

yeah, 3 red cards and two penalties was a poor return

Agreed “too nice” but a defeat like the last day might knock a bit of that ruthlessness into them. I hope anyway. I suppose it only comes with experience.

Italy not been there will be high up on the 'top nations missing the finals' etc type youtube vids/lists but can't see us been on many of them in the 'footballing terms'

Canada vs Bosnia would of sounded a lot better as Canada vs Italy so FIFA definitely feeling a little peeved

We would of been the 'craic masters'

The only thing I'd have worried about with the Irish fans was if a subset was trying to force a viral moment of being amazingly sound or fun but just end up overstepping the line in some way. You saw a bit of this in 2016. God only knows how big they'd try to go at a World Cup.

God that singing at a nun who had to smile politely and wait interminably for the moment to pass.

    Embarrassing gobsh1tes.

As Jose Mourinho said, "you can take the ball home, we'll take the 3pts". Yes they technically drew and there was no points involved but the point stands 😂

Fair play to fans that did show up. Bigger crowd than I expected.

One thing last night showed again though is a need for players to be able to control the game and we severely lack creativity, bit of speed would be welcome too.

We need to develop PL standard players. They dont have be world class, although that would be even better, but a level above what we have.

The likes of Wales, Scotland, Turkey and Czechs are proving you don't need 5-6 superstars but just 5-6 good players you an rely on helps.

The good thing, but also the frustrating thing is that we are not a million miles away at minute, but its enough to be not qualifying also.

Its going be at least 12 years between qualifying for major tournament and with the expanded Euros this has simply been a failure over past 10 years.

Back to Back world cups for the u17s gives us a glimmer of hope. I hope few special ones develop from that.

We really seem see our players struggle to develop from that 19-21 age bracket. So many seem to just stall progress within that age.

The loss of Cullen was huge for us. Hes comfortably our best midfielder and no one can replace him.

What do I know....shocking to see Czech Republic qualify…we were far better than them.

The crushing a car roof by standing on it then fixing it was the worst. I would be raging if I saw them do that to my car.

we weren’t far better than them. We got two flukey goals, gave one back stupidly and then totally conceded the second half territorially to a team with little threat who got the equalizer off a needlessly conceded free kick

we’ve a lot to improve on as a team and I’m not sure exactly where we stand. Parrott turning into Pele for one week in October might have skewed a lot of people’s perceptions of this team that still looks weak on the flanks and the middle of midfield with no clear solutions coming through

I agree with a lot of that but Parrott has been playing really well since the week in November, he should have scored another 3 last night. He will only improve think, hopefully we get Ferguson back fit and keep him fit as well.

Fair, Parrott has gone to another level this season.

I think we could have had 4 goals in Czechia game (hit post and crossbar), can’t think of many Ireland away games where we create that sort of opportunity, particularly against decent opposition in a major playoff.

They didn’t create the same sort of chances Ireland did, for all their control in second half they didn’t create much and weren’t as good as we were in first. I think people don’t remember the first half right cause but for maybe 5 mins after they got their stupid goal , Ireland were clearly on top. I don’t think they deserved the draw and it was more down to us letting them back into it, which is something we can work on.

I feel like we are making a lot of good chances we just aren’t taking. Even last night, as rough as it was, we did create some good chances but just poor finishing. Feels like for years we weren’t creating anything and purely relying on set pieces. I know we still rely on them but we have good moments in games (if not brief) where we have good possession play.

What seems different under Hallgrimsson is that there is a confidence/belief and purpose to the team that’s been missing. We weren’t just sitting back and hoping to nick a goal , we are trying to get the ball down. Players also have bought into what he’s trying to do which is a skill that many managers lack. He’s also as cool as a cucumber which I think works well with what the team needs.

I guess how you view things will depend where you think we should be. Based on how things have ended, I’d like to think we are pushing ourselves close to maybe being able to challange for 2nd spot in main group qualification (from no better then 3rd at best).

Im not sure we are ready to win nations league group ; need to find a few new players. But overall looks better then it did this time last year.

Not the easiest watch in the world last night to say the least but it must have been like getting methodone after Thursday for the players.

Good to see a few players get their international debut. I think we should have some decent players coming through in the next few years with Mason Melia, Michael Noonan, Trent Kone-Doherty, Alex Murphy, etc, etc. The future is bright.

I don't know what others thought but what were Kenny Cunningham and Sadlier on about re Seamus Coleman? Its not their place to talk the man into retirement. If he's ready to go (and he probably is) then let him decide himself. No need for 2 pundits to try push him out the door. I thought he did well last night as always and I hope he decides a Euro campaign in Dublin is worth giving one more stint. He's only 37, has looked after himself well, has a great attitude and has that drive and bit of anger which more Irish players need to develop. He might be more valuable as a player than a coach in my opinion.

And if that is it for him, well at least he got the ovation he deserved. There's only one Seamus Coleman.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,673 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

That they probably feel Coleman won't be around playing football come 2028 so he should move aside and let someone who will be around take over from him at RB I believe they were trying to say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,076 ✭✭✭JPup

That's probably true but Molumby really stepped up on Thursday night. His best game for Ireland so far I think. Very encouraging.

The only really important player we are losing now is Seamus Coleman. Brady to a lesser extent (not to knock him - excellent player in his day, just not as important as Seamus to the squad). Otherwise, our core players are coming into their peak years so it's all looking quite exciting. We are odds on to qualify for 2028 and then we'd be in a great position to give it a real go at qualifying for 2030 which will be a much better tournament than this year's mess with Trump, Iran, long distances between games, middle of the night kick off times etc.

Coleman looked really sharp again last night by the way! It seems inevitable that he'll retire, but I wonder does he have any thoughts of trying to keep going for another season?
