I'd drop them a mail so

my hotels.com and bookings stays all arrived around 6 weeks after my stays

I'm considering cancelling this and going full on on the Revolut points

You can do both. The free flights is not great with all the restrictions but the travel insurance for €6.50/month is the main draw for me - and I suspect most others

Revolut has many other benefits even aside from the revpoints/avios so moving certain spending to that can make sense

Don't forget to sign up for a BA rewards account as well for their Avios offers

I use the Revolut travel insurance. Do you think it's lacking in anything AL has? I haven't really looked into either, but I like that I have car rental excess with Revolut.

For anyone collecting Avios points in the Revolut app - you get 20% extra miles if you transfer your points to air miles by the 24th of August. I just transferred and got a nice bit extra.

Is there anyone else being constantly refused flights even though they are showing in the portal? I must have filled the form in 10 times at this stage.…beyond ridiculous.

The 'free flights' are different to buying flights via avios points portal

The only way you can claim a free flight , is submit the flights you want and hope there is availability , there is no way to know if the flights available prior to submitting , it's an awful system but it is what it is.

I just realised that my lounge passes and fast passes are expiring next month! I figure it's too much to hope that I could get to find a slot for my free flights next month so I can use them? Some people were saying you need to book 6 months in advance!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,483 ✭✭✭✭L1011

I've never booked the free flights 6 months in advance; but you'd want to put your first flight requests in right now.

You can give the passes away to someone else flying Aer Lingus if you can't use them yourself

I'm using the submission form and my understanding was the dates not greyed out on the calendar are available. Is that not the case? I do remember previously there was no calender and you submitted three choices but that changed a year or two ago.

At the end of the day, a credit card is a financial product and they should be obliged to have more transparency around this. For all we know, they could be denying requests to suit themselves financially.

If it's not greyed out it's not a blackout date. But it does not guarantee seats are available on a particular flight.

The lounge passes that you get included

Which lounge is it and is the lounge before or after security

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 75,483 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Aer Lingus have their own lounge, after security.

There's 3 of us flying out of Dublin next week and I have redeemed my 2 free lounge passes. Is there much hassle getting the third person by paying at the door? Also if anybody has an Aer Lingus lounge passes they want to sell to me I'd be open to ideas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭user060916

If you want one of my passes for €20 feel free to PM me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭SB Morer

you can’t pay at the door for entry to the Aer Lingus lounge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,040 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

    PM Sent

That's odd, you can pay for them online in JFK and LHR but seems to be no way to access it as a pleb in DUB

I also have some to sell if anyone wants some!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,040 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Anybody looking to sell the lounge access and indeed the fastpass, it might be worth setting up on sites like adverts, donedeal or ebay because you can be fairly certain I'm not the only person in this situation

so how strict are they on the lounge passes? I am flying British Airways and just put in the digits from my flight number after the EI-xxx

I have the QR code passes, but unsure if I can use them if the flight no. doesn't match an Aer Lingus flight no.?

just be aware that you’re only covered for up to €2k of damage with Revolut (at least this is the case for me and I’m Metal). You could hit that limit really easily.

The usual thing is that I have car rental insurance, but they'll say unless I take out full insurance I'll have to pay €1500 excess or something. So, from you're saying, Revolut will pay up to €2,000 of that excess? I presume if I do €10,000 damage, and excess is €1500, I won't have to pay anything. I'll just make sure I stick to places with excess less than €2000.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭user060916

It's excess insurance not primary insurance.

Granted I've had a fair few excess of over €2k so you do need to be careful but revolut is not primary cdw or sli

Does anyone know good destinations to use the free flights too that aren't hammered by taxes.

Looked at flights to Amsterdam, €144 with EI cash or use the free flights and €107!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭SB Morer

I’ve always gotten good value going to Spain and the Canaries. Used them for Sicily this year. Cash flights were €285 return per person - I only paid €34.50 in taxes.

Christ thats poor, probably cheaper to pay cash on Ryanair.

We used ours for Paris last summer, €450 down to €110 (was just the taxes and charges).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭user060916

Does anyone know if I don't pay the taxes, will the free flights go back into my account to be used for a different routing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭SB Morer

If you don’t contact them to pay the taxes the flights will be lost. They will not reinstate them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 575 ✭✭✭user060916

Seriously?! Haha the card really is worthless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,108 ✭✭✭arrianalexander

Just ring to cancel the request.

They only have a select seats available, so if you don't cancel your request no one else can avail of those seats
