Having 2 original model model y's and now the juniper, there is a fairly big improvement in ride in the juniper in my view.

    From the original MY Performance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,536 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

I know a lot of the videos criticising the suspension are in the US ,Australia and EU got the upgraded comfort suspension in 2023 which apparently made a big difference as well. Like someone said.. it’s not harsh.,,you fell well planted to the road more like.

Not the performance, awd across old and new

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,505 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Yeah, so not the same comparison really. The MYP has a different setup.

Btw - 3 MYs in 3 years is both impressive and dedicated! 😄

I see a shot of 2023 Ys are appearing for sale now across the country, about 30k. I definitely prefer the Premium Juniper looks after test driving it last year but are the horror stories of the older car’s suspension justified? Anyone here own one in a county with truly horrific road surfaces (West Cork’s roads have never been worse).

I have a 17 Octavia and the boomy sound from its crap suspension and interior gets to me (fabulous car otherwise). Better to get an RWD 2023 now or give it a few years for the Junipers to come onto the 2nd hand market?

PS No interest in the standard model, think they went too far.

    What horror stories?

The 2022 Model Y had a very firm suspension, some called it crashy. On good roads it was enjoyable.

ALL Model Ys from 2023 had revised suspension which was much more pliant.

Juniper models from 2025 improved again.

MYPs all had quality suspension parts.

Standard model vs pre-Juniper Model Y? Standard wins every time. It's a better car.

Standard model vs Premium Juniper? Your budget dictates I suppose, but other than glass roof the "losses" are minimal.

I have driven the pre Juniper Model Y and now own a Juniper.

The older car was fine, probably a little better than a pre Highland Model 3. The later Juniper is a little less firm, but with noticibly better refinement. I had a 2022 Model 3 and found the suspension firm but perfectly fine even on the worst rural roads.

Have a 24 model y and I can't compare it to pre-2024 ones but I would still consider the suspension harsh in comparison to other similar sized cars/evs I've driven. As other people mentioned it's lovely on a smooth surface like motorway driving but as soon as I hit the country roads it can definitely get very bumpy. Still love the car though.

Owners can't give a comprehensive opinion of the 23 MY suspension unless they've spent a reasonable amount of time travelling in the back. It's night and day. I love it as a driver, less so as a front seat passenger, and sometimes "take one for the team" and sit in the back or if I need to sleep.

I'm picking my 2023 MYP up tomorrow so will let you know how the family feels about it over a week or two.... but coming from a 2010 BMW F10 SE I found it far more comfortable.

It does have the comfort suspension which was released in the EU/Aus markets in 2023 and apparently the normal model Y is supposed to be better.

I think you've gotten yourself a nice car there Blazer. I was tracking it for a while, but elected to look at new instead.

Great video here on what makes the Model Y so good, especially the new Juniper.

Thanks..I was humming and hawwing about going to new but 56k for the LR AWD which I wanted and when I saw the MYP for 37k with a good warranty I was very happy with it.

I did see they had another in the same colour but with white which was gorgeous but it was already sold. I wonder was that the one for 30k and they just had the colour wrong as they said it was cherry red on the site.

that’s very good thinking, it’s kinda where I’m at, a proper petrol head been rammed into the future, picking up the new Y tomorrow and we’ve both something in common🤠

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,505 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Think you're right. Was one cherry red and the other the clearcoat deep red?

I was tracking the one that fell from 34k to 30k over about a month. Looked very nice and of course 12 month additional warranty and EAP (if you'd use it) was a reasonable sweetener.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,536 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

that's what it said on the site but when I was down there the other MYP was also the multicoat red not cherry and it was already sold.

I'm very happy with it…. I'm used to driving automatics with BMW but i thought it would take me a week or two to get used to one pedal driving but damn it took no time whatsoever. Its excellent.

I apologize to both Circle K and Ionity (and my wife for assuming she just couldn't manage it) - turns out DC charging was broken in the car. Took two visits to the service centre last week to fix it (not great that they thought they fixed it the first time when it fact it was not) - ended up replacing the whole charge port.

Looks like I got a pretty crap friday afternoon car - since I got the car in late 2024 it has had - amplifier replaced, entire car computer(!) replaced, and now the entire charge port replaced. I really like so much about the car, but thats a pretty horrendous record and making me question holding on to it long term…

Oh sh1t, that does sound bad alright. It's rare we hear even a niggle about the Model Y on here, especially later Ys from 2024+

Of course now is the time to consider a 2026 car. The value of all trade-ins has risen a little thanks to events in the middle East and the discounting is pretty attractive - who knows how long it will last I suppose.

Anyone have news on the YYY for Europe? I see AUS recently got that variant.

Looks like the Model Y Premium LR RWD now has the Premium sound system.

Cannot see in specs, but according to the configurator pics it shows the extra speakers in the doors and the plusher door cards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,505 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    It always did, no?

Or did you mean LR standard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,137 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

No only the awd had it here (mine doesn't I'm pretty sure )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,505 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Wow. The older pre-Juniper Model Y had premium sound in the basic RWD model.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,873 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Correct, earlier model Ys had premium sound across the range, Tesla phased out a few years back

The 7 seater Model Y is now available in Ireland, launched today. Seems only available to Premium AWD model

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 toshiba01

It says 2.5k extra for 7 seats but you lose the grant if you add it?

I've only intermittently been looking at this car. When was the 0.9% APR removed? I see that the standard range is at 1.99% and the premium is at 2.99%.

I would like to have the 7 seater, but I only got my Juniper AWD in July and have it the way I want it. Automatic frunk open/close. Frunk lights. Acceleration boost. Yoke wheel. Hard wired gear shifter. Commander, S3XY Knob, an just today I installed my S3XY dash. It would be a crime to sell it.
