One thing I am thankful for is that the world got past the weekend without Trump invading Iran and causing hundreds of other humans deaths.

They had to change the name of the protests in Hawaii...

If they are talking to anyone (which I'm absolutely not convinced they are) , they are probably talking to the son of the former Shah , which of course is utterly meaningless.

But then "meaningless" is kind of the motto of this whole clusterfúck of a thing.

Imagine if they did actually deploy troops to an island or the mainland in Iran, there would be footage coming back of American soldiers fleeing from and getting blown up be FPV drones like the ones posted daily in the Ukraine thread, it would be all over Reddit and social media.

American voters might have seen the odd shaky phone video of a humvee getting blown up by an IED but they wont be mentally prepared for up close HD footage of their beloved troops surrendering or getting splattered Russian style, it could finally break the MAGA stranglehold.

Anti-Trump protester makes cruel Tiger Woods joke at 'No Kings' march after golf icon's DUI arrest

"And Woods' latest incident proved to be the butt of one protester's joke as they wrote on a sign: 'Tiger Woods for Trump's chauffeur'.

It comes after a report emerged earlier on Sunday that claimed Woods has been prevented from driving Trump's grandchildren by secret service agents".

Trump will probably try it on for a discount Pardon fee now to stop any charges.

Trump can’t leave or “back out” of Iran without first getting agreement around the blockade at the strait - oil needs to start moving around the world again -with ground troops on standby or nearly ready to invade, I can’t see Trump doing a U turn on that - he’s going to use the troops for something - either some sort of strategic presence (cue daily killings of US troops by drones) - or a total invasion of the island (very bloody and will likely lead to the destruction of the oil processing plants) .

It’s not even about “how might Trump claim a win here” anymore- he’s fcked if he leaves and fcked if he stays. As the man says, if I was to head there, I wouldn’t start from here 😀

If negotiations were going as well as he alludes to, there would be no need for threatening the blowing up of oil fields etc.

And knows full well that that would only lead to a major worldwide oil crisis and would do him no good at home. Even the thick Americans who voted for him, Shirley, don’t believe this b0ll0x.

The big question for me is- how many US troops is prepared to sacrifice in this Iran conflict? Because he’s essentially sending many troops to a certain death if they invade the island.

Exactly - There is no path out of this for Trump that doesn't involve getting some kind of agreement with Iran on the Strait.

And they aren't giving up that leverage any time soon without some huge concessions which would be utterly humiliating for Trump to accept.

Trumps hubris and terror of looking "weak" allied with the evangelical loon in charge of the Dept of Defence makes it increasingly likely that the US will start threatening the use of a tactical nuke.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,213 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

How can a tactical nuke work, bearing in mind Iran has land borders with supposed US allies, and maritime borders with the major regional players like UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman & Saudi Arabia.

I guess I'm asking is the current nuclear weapon technology advanced enough that it could avoid a radiation incident in other countries?

Define "work" in the context of how the Trump administration thinks??

There are small "low yield" devices that would have a "blast radius" of a couple of kilometres that would wipe out a small city or a military base for example , the longer term impact could be pretty terrible depending on how far the radiation gets carried on the wind or via the water table etc.

But it would be less about the impact of that single device (as utterly appalling that would be) but what its use would mean for the world.

Agreed - but you have to admit there is a problem with these perpetual leaders who say they are working for the common good when they are acting for their own good.

An oil tanker reached Cuba today, breaking the US embargo .

Trumps reaction - “if a country wants to send oil to Cuba that’s fine “…

once that country is his pal Putin.

Trump won't put boots on the ground before the 4-day weekend.
He'll spin Good Friday into a remembrance of what American power "was"
Before he waxes lyrically in his stunted vocabulary, come Easter Sunday about the resurrection of American "Greatness".
Someone here actually posted a similar thought about when US boots would hit Iranian soil, and I agree with them.
It will be done at a time that ensures greatest market downtime, and most massive ChristoFascist religious impact for the Evangelicals.

Here is an interesting synopsis of how Trump gets into the music industry. And more specifically how he historically ingratiated himself with high profile black rappers.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Why even use a nuke when dumb bombs can cause much more misery if they take out power plants, desalination plants and dams in a country already suffering from severe droughts and without any air defenses

Most Presidents, if they had to make that decision, would be 'May God forgive me'

Trump, unfortunately, would be along the lines of 'I was the only President brave enough to do it'

It has more to do with the fact that the markets are closed for the long weekend which he thinks might give him time to spin the "victory" so he can make bank.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭bored65

What is more surprising is the delusion that can be seen in parallel thread that Trump won’t sink this low, Iran was already on a catastrophic water shortage

    https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/09/world/middleeast/iran-water-rationing-drought.html

And of course Israel would be more than happy if Iran turns into a larger version of the Syrian civil war

Every bit of that is true. They knew what they were voting for and went ahead and elected him anyway. The other problem as a result is that not just are Americans getting screwed as a direct result but the entire world is suffering now and probably a large chunk of it even more so then Americans.

He didnt follow through with his previous threats to blow up their power plants yet now people are believing he will follow through with his latest threats?

Trumps threats are no longer credible.

Would love to know from people either living in America or know people who live there, do Americans watch or pay heed to any kind of news or world news?

Do they have any clue of the embarrassment that they have chosen to represent them? Do they have any clue of the long term damage that is being to America? With their debt spiralling out of control and very little international sympathy now or for years to come, their reputation was poor around the world anyway but it's in the toilet now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,530 ✭✭✭✭Igotadose

The answer to all of this is, yes, I believe the majority of Americans know exactly what's going on.

They're not the ones parading around in MAGA hats or getting on the 'news.' One place you can find them is in the opinion polling of CFTrump's Presidency.

FWIW, in any election Trump has run in, he's never gotten the majority of the popular vote. In 2024, Harris + 'everyone else not named Trump that was running' exceeded Trump's votes.

I can’t believe the impeachment process hasn’t been instigated yet- this gombeen is an embarrassment to America no less the greatest threat to its success - there are any number of crimes committed not least releasing state secrets for personal profit, endangering troops unnecessarily and having extremely bad taste in ballrooms.

Because the Democrats don't control the congress to start the process? Or have the Senate to actually impeach him? I.e. it would be a waste of time and only strengthen his position for the upcoming election instead of giving him the proper ball kick he deserves by neutering his ability do anything by losing the house (and hopefully senate).

Tomorrow is April 1st but will Trump be aware of that?

It reminds me of a teacher I had in secondary school who kept saying "if you guys don't be quiet, I'm calling the principal". Everyday the class was as loud as a cattle mart, yet she never called the principal. She even picked up the phone expecting that to settle us down but she never dialed the number. Really stupid behavior because we very quickly learned her threats meant absolutely nothing no matter how many times she picked up that phone. Ideally, the President of the US would have better negotiating skills than a sub-standard teacher.
